We can’t go back to the old way of thinking. We’re living in a different time now....
Yes, indeed. You got all askeered, and nowadays the Depends™ portion of your ever-dwindling paycheck is becoming more burdensome by the day. I suggest you look more closely at what it is that is a real threat to the "American way of life", and decide whether you want to spend all your tax dollars pissing off everyone on the whole damn block, and then shaking in your basement in terror because "they're gonna getchooo......"
Cheers,
[bignose]: Quaint ideas about open government, and privacy, and the pursuit of happiness, the idea that people can just run amok, doing and saying and writing whatever they want, that’s anarchy.
... and quaint ideas about the Geneva Conventions too. Don't forget that. And the Bill of Rights, while we're at it. Oh. Right. Didn't see. You covered that.
Cheers,
I suspected snark, but you did it so well that a response was called for in any event, for the casual passers-by.
Also, a request: Can somone out there tell me, or lead me to a site that will explain how to do things like italics, bold, etc..? thanks.
Bold:
stuff to be bolded
Italics:
stuff to be italicised
Block quotes (indented):

stuff to be blockquoted

And to put in the funny characters (if you want them to show as themselves, and not be considered part of formatting tags):
left-angle-bracket ("less-than" sign, "<"): <
right-angle-bracket ("greater-than" sign, ">"): >
ampersand ("&"): &
HTH.
Cheers,
If anyone is any doubt about the meaning of the word disingenuous, do go have a look at S. Fitzmaurice's letter at the tail end of the previous thread. When I consider what appears on Comcast every day, I have to think that they're at least a couple of decades late in lifting their skirts. They're already mud and horsedung up to their perfumed bosoms, and playing the church lady at this point isn't likely to convince anyone of the purity of their motives.
I just can't wait to read tomorrow's post.
The entire act that the republicans are putting on has only one purpose - to cover their asses for the crimes that they committed. It is obvious from their behavior that they wire tapped anyone and everyone that they wanted to, not just terrorists. Americans would understand the government doing something illegal if it was to protect them. The problem here is that they tapped people that had nothing to do with terrorism.
They are acting like children who were caught with their hand in the cookie jar. The difference is that this cookie jar had our constitutional right to privacy and our inherent right to not be treated like the enemy, especially when we are innocent.
They abused the power, as any human would do given the same lack of oversight and accountability, but they did it and there is no taking it back unless, of course, the republicans' "compromise" bill is passed; you know, the one with the back door open to the FISA court to improperly and illegally influence it.
This administration has no respect for the people of our nation, the Constitution, and the rule of law, which they make blatantly obvious by their actions and their actions are those of the guilty. Means, motive, and opportunity are right in front of us.
Now, what are we going to do about it? Are we going to lie down again like we did when the right to vote was stolen from us? It was that act of passivity, lack of skepticism, and immaturity that emboldened the criminals to do everything they have gotten away with since.
"Moreover, all of the lawsuits for which you have provided links are civil suits that would not result in criminal liability, even if decided against the defendants."
Demolished in the last thread. Do try to keep up, Sh**ter. The laws are written in English, so perhaps you have a chance of understanding the gist of them.
Cheers,

Wanna tap e-mail, voice and Web traffic for the government? Well, here's your chance. Comcast, the country's second-largest Internet provider, is looking for an engineer to handle "reconnaissance" and "analysis" of "subscriber intelligence" for the company's "National Security Operations." Glenn,
Please write about Rep.Kucinich's 35-count resolution to impeach President Bush.
Thanks,
An admirer.
Who knows if it will help, but it can't hurt. I faxed 5 senators and 5 repesentatives with the message below. (I lifted some of Glenn's wording --- hope he doesn't mind.)
Note that e-mail to the ones outside of your own district may be restricted but you can fax anybody.

The New York Times, again shilling for the Republican party, has a long article today by Eric Lichtblau about FISA and PAA which claims, among many other shameless falsehoods, that Congress will "compromise" by bowing down to every crazy, illegal, and unconstitutional demand of the powerless and incredibly unpopular lame duck president. I am sure they must be as wrong about this as they were about WMDs and all the other demonstrably false Republican propaganda they've been swallowing for years.
You control the agenda in Congress. You determine what bills are voted on. All you have to do is force a House and Senate vote on a bill that does the two simple things that need to be done:
1. Exempt foreign-to-foreign calls from FISA's warrant requirements, and
2. Extend the PAA surveillance orders by 6 or 9 or 12 months.
When the GOP filibusters that bill, or when George Bush vetoes it, as they undoubtedly will, then that will clearly and obviously preclude the GOP from using the expiration of those PAA orders as a club to beat the Democrats, since it will be as clear as day – so clear that the voters and even perhaps our national press corps may be able to understand it – that it was the President and the GOP, not Congressional Democrats, which caused those orders to expire.
The House did this once before. Both houses can do it again. Simply show how ready you are to do those two things that need to be done, and how completely the Republicans refuse to do those two things that need to be done.
Your party, your country, and your constitution need you to do this. Please don't let us down.
