You guys must either live in a dream world or you're batshit crazy. If The House started impeachment hearings today, there would not be enough time to even get a quorum in the Judicial Committee, much less pass Articles of Impeachment in the whole House and then persuade 2/3rds of the Senate to convict. We have a hard enough time getting a simple majority to pass easy, non-political, stuff nevermind getting 2/3rds to pass something like impeachment - especially in an election year.
You can take your practicality and shove it. You have no idea what would/could happen if enough people stopped making excuses and decided to simply act on principle.
Besides, it isn't about "practicality" in the first place. It is about attempting to do the right thing, Period. I think you are lying when you say you want BushCo out. If you did want him out you would support the effort by the "better democrats" we already have in place, such as Kucinich and now Wexler. There is no legitimate reason not to. Especially not the "fear of failure" reasoning. Your practicality concerns are just bullshit and further proof that the "Obama will save us/more and better democrats" meme is a very harmful red herring perpetrated by liars and/or the willfully stupid.
Like I said before, people like you are the reason we will continue to have "leaders" like BushCo every 10-20 years. It certainly isn't because of us "batshit crazy" people who want their elected representatives in congress to use the constitutional provision for removing an obviously lawless executive.
A good and honest U.S. Congressman has started the process. He has facts, evidence and the balls to make something happen. Are you going to back him or hold fast to your fraudulent reasoning and excuse making?
...the mystery surrounding the decision allows for advocates to adopt deceptive positions on what the court said, which are very hard to disprove. -- EFF via CO earlier
Yes, well, then it is incumbent not to bother with trying to disprove it, but to state clearly and concisely what the problem is. Failure to do that has been the main reason why -- imho -- the fearmongers win all the time with this issue.
Lichtblau has essentially done the work of the regime's propaganda ministry, thus fulfilling the role of the Modern and Up to Date New York Times. What's so frustrating is that he can get away with repeating endless propaganda and claptrap, while never once letting on what the real issue is. The way Lichtblau puts it is the way the regime wants it put, and it is the way the problem is universally described in the mainstream mass media, everywhere, consistently.
Glenn and the litigants are not able to penetrate that wall of propaganda at all. They have almost no presence in that realm and consequently the public has little or no idea -- from reading the Times at any rate -- what the problem is.
And when Glenn and the litigants and the anti-Bush blogosphere attempt to state the issue as they see it, they of course run into the roadblock of secrecy that surrounds it, such that they and we can only surmise what is going on. We don't know anything.
But Lichtblau and his cronies "know" all the secrets because they have anonymous sources on the inside and they are telling the propaganda story without any qualification or skepticism at all, in a manner that is meant to be spread universally throughout the major mass media and which is further meant to intimidate Congress into compliance with regime demands.
It becomes an argument with phantoms.
The secrecy and the propaganda are what's preventing an honest and thorough consideration of the problem and its solution.
And Congress should know by now (ha) that the secrecy and the propaganda surrounding these matters prevents them from doing their job. They should know by now that they cannot rely on the truthfulness of regime spokespeople. They should know by now that their constant caving to the demands of the White House is neither necessary nor politically valuable.
They should know by now....
(OT: question, why are all the ads-by-google in the right hand column in German? Because I used Heimat in a post a while ago? Or what?)
I think not. What they do have are fearful people / aka / the American populace.
"All they have... All they have is fear.
That's how pathetic the republicans, the 'press', and our nation have gotten..."
You're about half-way there. Fear is a 'life' thing. Things that are alive don't like being dead unless the wiring goes seriously bad, or in the case of suicide bombers, they despise others so much that they'd gladly give their lives to eliminate those who are so horrible that they need to be eliminated. Yep. That is a deep-rooted big big big hate.
But I digress.
If you want to be safe, don't have folks out there that don't like you. Give 'em a carrot. Better yet, take away the stick that idjits love to wave about. Eat the rich. Don't support the military -- let's give these folks real jobs -- hey, dude, you graduated already. Let's eliminate the military. And the people that actually think we need them.
Ride a bicycle. Get off your fat ass already.
Stop eating meat. Learn how to cook. Real food.
Turn off your TV. Leave it turned off.
And don't get me even start on Starbucks. You want to avoid asshats? Avoid Starbucks (when on foreign shores, does anybody but me notice that it is a shit-magnet / slump-pump of 'Murica.
