How telecoms are attempting to buy amnesty from Congress

Lobbyist disclosure forms and campaign contribution records illuminate the sleazy process by which our key laws are written.

The letters thread is now closed.

LWM

I found a picture of Derbig.

I don't think so. That looks like pleather. Gore-tex leather may be the "cool new thing", but pleather is just declasse.

Glenn - when is the first salvo scheduled to be lobbed at Carney? It would be nice to know so we could show some love to the media outlets it appears on/in and just, in general, show our support of the principles espoused.

Logical fallacy, Glenn

You mistakenly assume every lobbying dollar is spent on this single issue.

Follies

I seem to remember GC! a while back making reference to elephants pulling themselves up into the trees by their noses. Maybe I was in my cups at the time, but the image tickled me; a wave of sympathy came over me for these ponderous creatures, so disappointed in the realities of the forest floor that they'd struggle so mightily to pretend they were birds. I also thought, don't they know what'll happen when they all manage to get up to the top?

Ah, well. If they don't know now, they'll find out soon enough. What bothers me is that the donkeys, looking up, are wondering if there's any room in the tree for them as well.

Maybe that's the reason monkeys left the trees for the savannah and became men, do you suppose?

Reading comprehension

I distinctly rememeber seeing the phrase 'net neutrality' in the text of Glenn's article.

Nice try however.....

GG - Update 2

"Whoever wrote that statement is obviously quite confused about the basic facts governing the current dispute."

...or they are counting on the public remaining quite confused about the basic facts governing the current dispute and the so-called national security implications of a "FISAless" country.

I believe they know full well what they are saying and I also believe they know they are flat lying.

If this issue is important enough for the McCain campaign to throw their own candidate under the bus, it means the Republican choice of a Vice-Presidential candidate will not be anyone who cannot control McCain and do the actual heavy lifting of a McCain administration. George Bush was chosen as the GOP candidate in 2000 because of his ability to be liked and also be controlled by Cheney and his Gang of Thieving, Treasonous Bastards.

McCain is in the same position. His "choice" of running mate will tell us precisely who controls the GOP nominating apparatus - and it ain't McCain.

5 Myths About Lobbyists

I haven't read something this hilarious since the aforementioned Krauty article. But Hiatt strikes again. Just have a gander at this piece on the WaPo ed board today. Incredible.

Speaking of Rubber Monsters...

I see Electro has turned up. Well, I've told you how to get rid of him, now it's up to you to follow through. I wonder if he is still supporting Obama, as his letters indicate, on the basis of Obama's Jewish like thinking patterns. It's in his letters, several of them.

Any way- Mothman? I thought you said Mothra!

Lobbying v. Drug Reps

Congressman are allowed to accept millions of dollars from companies which THEY REGULATE!

These very same lawmakers chastise me and say I am wrong when I accept a free pen or a free sandwich from a drug rep who wants to spend five minutes telling me about their new product.

Yeah, that makes sense...

Moose code. I just got a written letter. o gaud, blessings i see.... hello.

William Timberman. You remind me of the hunched-back-gnome. He was from sunny Arizona. When the good Gnome-Ogre walked with a bent-over-hunch, he was crazy with glee. All the red ants, bugs, and salamanders, fauna, and morel mushrooms to see! He's shout, Glory!

He's rant about tiny moths, pebbles, and the wave-shore sand ripples.

The ugly, bent-back ogre, was gentle, and transformed into beauty.

The geezer was pleased, and praised Nature for a aching sore toe.

William Timberman? A message in Moose code? Tell Ms P. okay.

On that date, it will no be a`bore, a`boo. No be a`melancholy.

P.S. I don't use a phone, e-mail, and rarely open my snail-mail.

Pedinska. Thanks. okay. Be with woolly mammoth? okay. hush.

Color code : green, pink, and safety blue. No be a mastodon.

Spin-0ffs Galore!

Gore-tex leather may be the "cool new thing",

I have not actually seen it yet, I just got an Aeorostitch catologue yesterday.

You gotta understand, I actually do not like motorcycling. There is simply no other activity which gives a straight guy the oppurtunity to wear not just leather head to toe, but several layers of leather!! (counting my suede underwear) And the old helmets come in handy for marital discussions.

If only I could get a street suit made of "rich Corinthian leather"! Ricardo Montleban, where are you now that we need you?

Anyway, except for Electro, this looks like a serious erudite and informed discussion. That's no place for me, today.

I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl today, and I've got a printing project going:

http://www.nkschools.org/schools/wolfle/staff/mmccurdy/

We are producing a coloring book with these murals- the merchandising, entertainment, musical and marketing spinoffs have tremendous potential. (Several "Gangsta' Rappers have expressed interest, as well as Cyrus Miley) If you are interested, please e-mail MooseHall Productions.

Oh hell, just come by, and we'll kick the gong around.

Washington Week's weakly analysis and reporting

Last night while while banging out a post I watched Washington Week with Gewn Ifill. At some point the analysis, after going over the 2008 campaign, turned to McCain's problems regarding lobbyists. It seems that the general consensus was that McCain had a bit of a problem because he'd been campaigning as Mr. Clean but had lobbyists on his team.

Obama had positioned himself slightly better but wasn't entirely free of lobbyists' influence. Yet the general consensus was that most voters don't pay much attention to lobbyists, and when they do lobbying becomes a handy foil for Washington's trouble.

Listening to a panel of reporters from Time, Washington Post and Politico and reading GG's piece, it is easy to see why Americans may not know what exactly lobbyists are doing.

Greenwald laid out a case for how some of them are using their influence--$$$!--to game the system regarding the telecom issue. Talking Points Memo has made an issue of McCain aide Charlie Blacks' lobbying for dictators. Yet none of the journalists on that show raised these examples as issues, reasons as to why Americans should be considered about the number one method of influence peddling.
