Did Leonard Boswell or Bud Cramer Sell Us Out? by Matt Stoller

    http://www.openleft.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=5666

"Boswell faces a progressive primary challenger, Ed Fallon....If I were Fallon's campaign, I would be sending an open letter to Boswell asking if he voted to allow AT&T to break the law by wiretapping American citizens. That committee vote should have been 12-9. It ended up being 11-10. Was it Bush Dog Boswell who helped out his campaign contributors and in the process covered up Bush administration crimes? We know he voted for the war, for the Protect American Act, and for hundreds of billions in war funding. We know he's funded by corporate PAC money. It seems like a logical question.
  • Lieberman lite....

You're going to invade someone's district, berate him in public, and all with no expectation of unseating him? You're going to nag him into submission?

Heh. Keep up the good work. Hopefully you can keep Hamsher from putting the target in blackface this time.

  • Adnoto

You really want to affect change? You really want "better Democrats"? Run the ads regardless -- get rid of the guy and anyone else who has considered voting for telecom amnesty.

    -- adnoto

    "Get rid of the guy".--Adnoto

And we should do that how? Shooting him? taking away his credit card? Painting a clown face on him while he is sleeping? Or, maybe, we could expose him, which is what we are doing. I think the last option is the best option. Sorry that you were unable to see what was right in front of your face.

  • The concept of "accountability" is foreign to shooter242.

You're going to nag him into submission?

Merely remind him who put him into office, and who can remove him from it.

And unlike the modern Republican Party, this is all perfectly legal and above board.

Jealous, shooter, or shamed your side can't do the same?

  • bigger picture

Just remember, a lot of Obama's backing are Blue Dogs, union folks, and the pretty moderate or conservative Democratic establishments mostly of Red States. And they all backed Obama precisely to get more of their kind elected, i.e. centrists and Blue Dogs and DLCers. And now they're starting to marginalize Obama's liberal supporters.

It's funny how all the Obama boosterism on this site suddenly stops in threads like these. The contradiction between the desire for just more Democrats/eliminating Republicans of whatever stripe and getting actually useful solid Democrats is the elephant in the room here. There are going to be a lot of disillusioned liberals as they figure out that an Obama Administration isn't going to be about them.

That being said, as a pattern there are about 10 more solid, mostly liberal Democrats in the House per election cycle whatever the partisan result. We'll hopefully get from about 200 to about 210 in the next two years, and past 220 (and thus dependence on the likes of Blue Dogs) after 2010.

  • SanPasqualCA

How do you figure that "Union folks" are Blue Dogs? Are you assuming that the majority of "Union folks" are dumb-shits?

  • shooter:

I hope you've directed similar fire at the club for growth and other absurd Republican organizations which have helped build the Democratic majority.

Senator Lincoln Chafee probably didn't appreciate his CfG primary challenger forcing him to move Right in the 2006 Rhode Island primary.

At least we're not as stupid as to think a rabid far right senator could win in Rhode fucking island.

This is suburban Pennsylania we're talking about, not rural Texas or Utah.

  • Stop embarrassing yourself Kitt

Seriously, how dense are you? There has been a discussion in this very comments thread about whether or not to still run the ads (exposing him) if he promises to vote against telecom amnesty. It appears some are advocating that, if he does reluctantly agree to vote against telecom amnesty, the ads shouldn't be run. There will be little to no "exposure" of the man if the ads don't run. That is what my post is addressing. Do you see it now?

  • Adnoto

That is what my post is addressing. Do you see it now?

    -- adnoto

Yes, I saw it before I posted. But I had the sense to realize that when one begs someone to 'please not run the adds' they have been exposed, no matter if the adds run or not.

Yeah, that's why they went in a landslide for Obama in West Virginia.

There are going to be a lot of disillusioned liberals as they figure out that an Obama Administration isn't going to be about them.

I think Obama's been pretty open about this, and also that liberals are not as naive as you seem to think.

  • Can we put pressure on Pelosi too?

If she's pushing for a compromise, she needs to hear from us as well.

    Cheers,

  • So true

You are obviously correct on the whole but there won't be a lot of disillusioned liberals here at UT. Primarily because there are very few actual liberals here at UT in the first place. From what I have seen, the few true liberals that comment here do realize how it will play out.

  • Arne:

I think this is the way to put pressure on Pelosi. We're attacking the base of the pyramid upon which rests her power. She's too far up to attack directly.

  • Hey Scoot

What happened to polygamy? I know, so last week, right, but Hamsher's gaffe was, like, 3 years ago. Who remembers?

So hey, how 'bout that California judicial activism?

Pretty soon we'll all be marrying pigs!

    Muslim ones!

    Black Muslim ones!

    Whole harems of them!

  • Pelosi is next, I hope

I just contributed $35.00 to the Carney ad campaign. Now I have a suggestion. Given Speaker Pelosi's sorry performance, please initiate a similar ad campaign aimed at her. I hereby pledge $100.00. Such a campaign might have the indirect consequence of helping Cindy Sheehan unseat Pelosi! Should that happen, I would be quite happy. However, I would be equally happy if Pelosi keeps her seat but changes her ways. Either way would be good for the country.
