The tidal wave of TV, radio, newspaper and billboard ads in Carney's district arose out of his active support for warrantless eavesdropping and telecom amnesty.

  • Not only difficult

and partly in getting more progressive Democrats elected, even in the red states. Accomplishing either isn't going to be easy, nor can either be accomplished entirely within the party. It's probably best to view these tasks as complementary, not as contradictory -- if we can manage it.

    -- William Timberman

It takes time and patience. Very difficult for the MTV generation.

In the interest of correcting myths...

One Democrat has been "cited" as having an influence on some "key figures associated with neoconservatism". Some of them were socialists once. Most have always been right wingers.

As a Cold War anti-Communist Democrat, Jackson's political philosophies and positions have been cited as an influence on a number of key figures associated with neoconservatism, including Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle.

  • Whether intentional (by calculation and design)

An alarming notion at face value, but even more so when considering C.O.'s comment about the B.D.s being a party within a party.

When half a loaf is even less than that...

    -- Anonymust

Or just spontaneous, this is to be expected. Entryism is as old as politics itself. Every decision to run for office, and in what party, is a form of calculation. As more moderate conservatives get driven from the GOP by the party's steadfast resolve to remain the party of right wing radicalism, (either prowar or antiwar), more and more of them will filter into the Democratic party. Just like right wing libertarians and neocons took over the GOP, the Blue Dogs will try to take over the Democrats.

  • @ bamage regarding hypothetical Iran air attack

As I expect you know I watch this question like the well known hawk, though not for the same reason, and I can tell you that there isn't going to be an Iran air attack, the whole thing is just another wave of bluster. What we do get is what the US (if it was on the receiving end) would call "terror groups" inside Iran, financed by US and UK, blowing up mosques.

M K Bhadrakumar sums up the real state of affairs pretty well here (except I don't share his belief in the CounterPunch story about the aborted Israeli air attack on Beirut May 11):

celery, you are no longer funny or interesting or relevant - it is high time you started trying to be at least relevant, and cut out the fake zen.

  • nuts Oh. Pedinska forgot.

Use crushed dried peanuts. Oh. Dumb. First. Dip a yellow banana in chocolate, and then roll the evening treat in the peanuts. Eaters will be lucky?

    P.S. Don't allow a 'schlemiel' to serve U.T. readers.

That would be stupid, awkward, and a big mistake.

  • three good things

    (1) now I realise that despite william timberman's attempt to insinuate otherwise, the complaints of off topic posts were almost certainly not aimed at me, but at the idiotic, time and space wasting celery troll.

    (2) L.W.M. managed to get a good discussion of North and Rushdoony onto the WaPo standards thread before it closed.

    (3) the c1.zedo.com pop-unders seem to have disappeared.

  • Rowan. A Waffle cone to you...

I gladly defer. It's your floor. Be a cub scout. Address readers. Be long winded, and lyrical.

Oh, and don a garbage pale on your head?

Use a ice waffle cone as a top hat. Thanks.

    FYI

I deleted the discussion of the hypothetical I just posed. I really wanted to hear input on what people thought about it and now that I have -- and I agree with most of what was said -- I've deleted it. I'll post more updates on it as things proceed.

    -- GlennGreenwald

Was the above actually posted at 3:22 Salon time? Or was it inserted after the fact (is that even possible)? I am guessing it was posted at that time and I missed it because it is not my habit to go back and look for such things. I am not used to a UT comments section where posts are deleted and explanations are to be looked for.

I confess I am particularly uncomfortable with the deletions, any deletions, but in this case I believe you as to your stated motives. Not that I agree with you. Personally, I hope Carney or one of his flunkies had a chance to see the comments before they were deleted.

Having said that, it is time for me to have a heaping helping of crow. My sincerest apologies to you Glenn. I over-reacted badly it seems and made a fool out of myself. I will wear that. I should have just asked a question instead of flying off the handle but, for me it isn't about paranoia -- it is about anger. Here we are, for the most part intelligent, conscientious and concerned citizens having to, day after day, discuss such issues as "will our representatives shield corporate/establishment lawlessness?" or "where oh where did habeas corpus go?" It is completely maddening. Though I was irate (as I find myself more and more these days) there was a certain amount of sincerity in my "do me a favor and ban my IP" comment. There are many times when I think it would save me some heartache.

    Again, my apologies.

I find the comments you make here to be interesting and educational. But then you make a comment like this:

celery, you are no longer funny or interesting or relevant - it is high time you started trying to be at least relevant, and cut out the fake zen.

I realize that a person's archived letters aren't necessarily an accurate reflection of the amount of time they've been hanging around the neighborhood, so the fact that you seem to be unaware of GCs "relevance" is more revealing than your first post date of sometime last month.

His "zen" is not artificial, it's earned.

I know there are others like you out there who haven't figured out how to 'hear' what he has to say, but I think you would be surprised at how many people here consider Good Celery! not only "relevant", but also essential.
