An interesting non-sequitur
I think it's worth my pursuing this line of thought, since no one has yet denied my basic claim, which is that the re-energisation of the US Religious Right in the direction of seeking a new world war since the end of the cold war is to some important extent driven by religious zionism. -- Rowan Berkeley.
To what important extent, I wonder? Are you actually British? Have you ever lived in the U.S.? I ask not only because I'd gladly deny your thesis, now that you've stated it explicitly, but also because I don't think anyone who was born here could ever come up with such an idea.
Of all the strains in American culture which currently push us toward war, religious zionism is barely worth mentioning. It's a demagogic trick, one of relatively recent origin, and has never until now been a genuine part of our cultural history.

I am British and I have never lived in or even visited the USA
You may be right that no one who was USAian would see this aspect of the situation, but I very much doubt it.

I'll give you this, though -- you're definitely a one off, and a welcome one at that. I knew from your first comment that we had a live one. I even said so, if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, I can't wait to hear the rest of your meditations. When all is said and done, we do need fresh perspectives....

Midnight in Arizona
This time zone thing is kicking my butt, I'm afraid, but maybe just once more unto the breach. Even in my silliest moments, I'm not sure I could make jokes about Yad Vashem. It's not sentimentality, mind you, but respect which forbids it. Too many gone under the ground or up in smoke, too many of my friends scarred. It's a personal thing.

if you can be bothered to click it. You really should grasp that your Jewish sensitivities are not as holy to the world at large, though, if you are serious about preventing nuclear catastrophe, in which the USA, which I assume you regard as "your own country," will be permanently relegated to savagery. You simply cannot have your cake and eat it too.

nor is one murdered person's memory more sacred to me than another's merely because of the tribe he belonged to. We should get to know one another better before you presume to lecture me about either my sensitivities or my responsibilities, don't you think?

your sensitivities are already sufficiently obvious. Read the op-eds. Learn something about reality, which cares nothing for your sensitivities, or mine for that matter.
Incidentally, I have taken the liberty of re-punctuating the op-eds, both of them, since Jewish-American op-ed writers use far too many melodramatic full stops — I think you call them "periods."

Well, Mr. James outdid himself yet again. Good stuff for one that is supposed to be all sweetness and reason. I hope he shares with his family, since it is so beautiful. He writes much more directly when he is on the attack, perhaps he is not a moron after all.
Now what prompted this little window into Art James' soul? He is defending his little group from getting back what they started. Odd, you would think by reading it that I was the only one bickering or making insults.
Yep, we have high level "liberal" hypocrisy here in Mr. James. But then, at least he did not call me a dung eater this time! :-)

Your act, and the acts of those involved in this Hatfields and McCoys feud you guys have got going, is getting real old. Would you please consider a ceasefire, unilateral if need be, or take it to another planet? I'm sure you folks wouldn't think it ok to visit someone's home and shad on the carpet so I can't understand your propensity to do the same in Glenn's living room. Occasional clever reparte' is fine and dandy (even needed to lighten up the joint) but the constant bickering is getting to be a distracting eyesore.
I ask this as a friend.

The Washington Post has become the written version of Fox News. Are there really others than Fox listeners who still read this trash filled sheet?
I deleted it from my computer several years ago and do not even miss it. When integrity goes the news goes with it.
