Kathy Twitty
The twit Kathleen Parker has been gracing the Chicago Tribune op-ed pages for over eight years. In addition to the male idiots like Jonah Goldberg, they always have at least one stupid right wing woman on the op-eds. From Linda Bowles ("Pat Buchanan's Brave Heart") to Linda Chavez. Now it's K Parker.
She was one of the early Bush believers who said that the "grownups are in charge now" when W and his blue-suited Bushbots took over from those scruffy Clinton kids. That turned out well.
She hides her racism with an aw-shucks, ah'm jus' a suthern gal writing style. But she does represent a way of thinking in her neighborhood, where the folks are still fighting over the right to display their a heritage with the Confederate battle flag.

@Caldo, Achiever
There have been several wars since the civil war, and southerners have borne much of the burden of fighting in those wars.

Post Editorial, please
Glenn,
Let me add my voice to others urging you to write an editorial for the Washington Post.
Katherine Graham would want you to!
-
@ Chris C
Yeah, sorry, I did not really mean that. I am just being bitter...
I really like Obama, he is our best hope.

The Post WAS a quality paper
"Yesterday on The McLaughlin Group, Monica Crowley said that Obama's harsh response to Bush's speech in Israel showed that Obama was thin-skinned, and therefore "a girly man." Gender bending has always been a central line of Republican attack, but their desperation will make it much more explicit this year. Buckle your seatbelt.-
The irony is too much....
Republicans projecting 'gay' and effeminate and weak on the Democrats while their own are arrested weekly in diapers, panties, whorehouses, park washrooms soliciting undercover cops, followed by a press conference where they cry with their wife standing by and say they are sorry.

Amen to that, NW Woods.
I used to respect the Washington Post. That was a quite a while ago. My hometown paper now sponsors and promotes this kind of disgusting tripe.
Glenn, great post.

Obama's "flaws"
What Glenn points out on a daily basis, and what's so important to note about the republican media smearmongers, is that *no* democratic candidate will ever be allowed to pass without a complete savaging of character along three basic axes of suspicion:
1. Not enough loyalty to America
2. Queerness/gender inversion
3. Clownishness
Those moaning about Obama's "Muslim" problem fail to grasp that it will never matter who we nominate. John Edwards, a child of poverty from the south who rose to prominence, can't escape their bashing.
Theirs is a party living in Hollywood fictions, good guys and bad guys in easily identifiable tropes -- uber-masculine normative heterosexual white superiority, and ethnic, queered foreign villianery.
There are only two real ways to fight back. The first is what Glenn does, mocking and ridiculing their hypocrisy in a savage, unflinching, and factually supported way (using their own words against them), and the second is mocking and ridiculing the republican candidate as ridiculous.
For John McCain that means making fun of his oldness, his befuddledness, his confusion, his physical weakness and his wrinklyness.
Do I wish it could be about the issues instead of nonsense? Of course.
But if it was about the issues, Gore and Kerry would've won landslide victories.
So until we deconstruct the mass media blockade that Glenn assaults on a daily basis, our only recourse is for our footsoldiers to mock and riducule their candidate right back.
Our standards will naturally be higher -- we'll be fact based and won't use racism. But the mocking and ridiculing is the only proper response. And in John McCain's case, it's well deserved.

Those Great Patriotic Bloodlines
Anyone notice how those bastions of white support noted by Ms. Parker are in fact places that fought to destroy in the Union in the Civil War?
During that war, there were terrorist attacks committed by "cooperheads" from South sympathizing portions of places like Indiana and Ohio.
Interesting how these are Republican strongholds.
