Letters to the Editor

Ugh
how many of your long-ish term relationships have failed in the past? You have a real problem with not being the center of attention.
Can we please ignore this guy?

@barrister89
Tell me, is there something about this subject which really brings out the pretentious twit in a guy, or is it something else?

Easy now all those previously non recognized relationships have legal standing. Now gay couples where one partner dies have to give up everything to the decedents blood survivors. That will now change. And most states don't let two unrelated people sign a co equal mortgage for non commercial property (that is, where they are unincorporated). Likewise in P&C law over a 'household' there household has been strictly defined. Now when your gay partner gets sued for killing someone in a DUI, you're off the hook. No longer - not when there are joint household assets. And as far as living wills and medical proxies, most hospitals don't recognize any non-legal 'familial' relationship unless there are literally no other options. And oh, I left out custody law and child support. That's a biggie. So yeah, things will change.

Electro's Hits
Well, let's start with Electro's qualifications. He signs himself, in one of his first letters:
Cordially,
ER; (Electro Robot)
Zionist Eye Atop the Pyramid
Freemason Illuminati 33rd order
Order of the Knights Templar
Just so you slobs know who you're dealing with! And then there's Electro's penetrating Queries:
At what point will Obama claim he's being martyred on the Cross like Jesus?
And of course, so many post's which let us know Electro's high opinion of the place where he spends his time:
Or you could happily ignore the self anointed faux marxist hippies of Salon
[Read the article: Don't blame San Francisco for Obama's "Bittergate"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]
It's not as if they represent more than the tiniest tiny sliver of anything. Zealots and fools most of them so trying to explain something to them is a waste of time. Politics is the new entertainment and whatever you do never tell people their taste is shit.
And these are by no means a greatest shits collection, this is just a start.

Here's a delightful nugget from Paul Ash
"Buon appetito, penis breath. :-D"
Stay Classy, Paul.
-
Moose's animal rape fetish
"by bringing up orgies involving farm animals and five-year-olds.
I never get invited to anything! Even the stuff I can dress for."
Paul is obsessed with penises, at least they're human penises, we think.
-
I think
It's time we stopped treating gay people like they aren't really human or aren't really citizens in our democracy.

Another thing about polygamy
Legalizing polygamy could easily lead to a larger number of unpartnered young men (as the older, wealthier, men would attract extra wives); and that could lead to social unrest. Therefore the state could have a compelling interest in not promoting polygamy; because unmarried young men are more prone to causing trouble.
Perhaps people will change, and if polygamy were legalized women would marry multiple men as often as men would marry multiple women; but that's not the usual pattern. Or if the polygamists were a tiny percentage of the population, they'd be insignificant. I don't think it wise to count on that though.
I think it's far more of a powder keg than we should leap into. Plus, as a previous poster mentioned, it would be extremely complicated. Family law would be even more of a tangle than it is now.
Gay marriage is simple and straightforward by contrast, and clearly should be legal. The most it requires is a little tweaking of any gendered language in the laws. It baffles me why anyone would oppose it for any other than religious reasons.
Hetero, and happy with California now. Equity is a good thing.

@Paul
Glenn's already given his analysis of Electro's posts,and I trust him on that. And I will do as you request. But I think this is one Salon is going to have to take care of.
However, at the bottom of the "Letters to the Editor" page there is this:
If you are experiencing a problem with our Letters feature or wish to complain about a letter, please send us e-mail at lettersproblems@salon.com.
Or click my name. It's the only way it'll be resolved.

@Electro Robot
Anyway here is what this law means. It means practical changes real world scenarios. ...
So things will have to change. Are you suggesting that decisions involving basic rights should be based on convenience?

First of all Mr. Greenwald is wrong to try to stamp out criticism of the decision by effectively telling readers they are unqualified to criticize it unless they as a legal scholar.
I said absolutely no such thing.
I don’t know the answers to these questions, but you don’t have to be a judge or a lawyer to weigh in on the logic and reasoning of this decision and I hope Salon readers will do so. Personally, I favor gay couples having the same right to marry, but the question is whether the CA court is correct in imposing impose gay marriage without action of the legislature.
Your whole comment disproved the point you set out to make, since you based it on your reading of the key cases -- which was all I said someone had to do in order to form a reasoned opinion on this ruling - not become a "legal scholar."
Moreover, there's much more to the decision than simply deciding whether inter-racial marriage cases are analogous. There is a whole body of case law governing Equal Protection jurisprudence, how presumptions are to be applied, what the right to marry means conceptually.
If you just want to ignore all of that and decide you don't feel like learning anything about it, fine. But then you can't make a reasoned argument about whether the court reached the right conclusions here. I don't know why that's controversial.

I will be amazed if no one has mentioned this before now, but this explains a LOT!
IOW, the same evolutionary strategies, like patriarchal polygamy now degrade the species, i.e., stagnant gene poo. We have Republicans...
I always knew it was something simple.
