California's marriage ruling -- what it means and what it doesn't mean

One can easily anticipate the myths and falsehoods soon to be spouted about this landmark ruling.

The letters thread is now closed.

lwm ends on bigoted note again ...

Florida's stagnant gene pool sloshes around and stains

Other Democrat bigots used to say that about the African Americans in Paramore. Does lwm mean them? Maybe he is just a bigot and means all Floridians.

Regardless, he is a bag of crap ready to be put on a garden someplace.

funny

... the resulting comments (especially LWM's cut and paste jobs and Timberman's "back when I was a revolutionary!" monologues) are sure to send a literary wave of destruction that will reverberate throughout the land, decimating all evildoers in their path. ...

Now that was funny and spot on. Glenn on the other hand is most often absolutely correct in his postings. Will it change America? Who knows, we have had a couple of truth tellers in the past that had great effect. Perhaps Glenn is the next one.

The commenters? Not so much.

Thanks for the laugh

Maybe he flew in to get married?

My guess is that he is writing the end all be all blog post that will finally bring down the BushCo-military-industrial-corporate-joe klein- congressional-media-complex of evildoers! Just you wait...one of these blog essays and the resulting comments (especially LWM's cut and paste jobs and Timberman's "back when I was a revolutionary!" monologues) are sure to send a literary wave of destruction that will reverberate throughout the land, decimating all evildoers in their path. Yay!

the alchemical marriage of intellect and soul, a poem by ibn arabi

I marveled at an Ocean without shore,

and at a Shore that did not have an ocean;

And at a Morning Light without darkness,

and at a Night that was without daybreak;

And then a Sphere with no locality

known to either fool or learned scholar;

And at an azure Dome raised over the earth,

circulating 'round its center - Compulsion;

And at a rich Earth without o'er-arching vault

and no specific location, the Secret concealed...

I courted a Secret which existence did not alter;

for it was asked of me: "Has Thought enchanted you? "

- To which I replied: "I have no power over that;

I counsel you: Be patient with it while you live.

But, truly, if Thought becomes established

in my mind, the embers kindle into flame,

And everything is given up to fire

the like of which was never seen before!"

And it was said to me: "He does not pluck a flower

who calls himself with courtesy 'Freeborn'."

"He who woos the belle femme in her boudoir, love-beguiled,

will never deem the bridal-price too high!"

I gave her the dower and was given her in marriage

throughout the night until the break of Dawn -

But other than Myself I did not find. - Rather,

that One whom I married - may his affair be known:

For added to the Sun's measure of light

are the radiant New Moon and shining Stars;

Like Time, dispraised - though the Prophet (Blessings on him!)

had once declared of your Lord that He is Time.

"Rumi won't hurt you. Nor Hafiz."

Nor will "The Drowned Book" by Rumi's father Bahauddin. The book is somewhat more accessible to some, and Rumi sure did love it, as the story of how the Maarif came to be known as the drowned book shows.

One of my favorites is "Lust alone does not create" on page 78-79 of my translation by Coleman Barks and John Moyne.

Sleepy heads? A fun poem is " 'Joy at Sudden Disappointment'...

Rumi uses that nasty word, penis.

Rumi won't hurt you. Nor Hafiz.

It's simply personal discoveries.

Sohbet.

Sohbet means "mystical conversation on mystical subjects." "Marriage is a mystery" He' write a poem with many points and outer spectrums to think about. The inner-outer poems are fun.

The outer conversation are contained with quotation marks "."...

The inner are continuous and contain the entire fabric style.

To speak from a habitual pattern of meanness or optimism?

Think.

There is an acceptable "harshness" if the goal is rare wisdom.

Coleman Barks writes about Rumi. "Rumi needs to be released."

Read a good translation? Maybe Rumi's thoughts need jailed?

-

Rumi writes :

Mind does its fine tuning hair slitting, but no art ot craft begins.

Or, can continue without the 'other' master giving wisdom to it.`

Persian poems are fun to read and think about. Barks is good.

Maybe he flew in to get married?

It is a shame that we have allowed the state to tell us who can and who can not get married. If 4 men, 3 women, and even a cat want to marry --- it is none of my business. Nor is it the business of the state.

Mona

You could, and should, assume that there are people reading here, possibly including the blogger himself, who have met my son who has the Aspergers diagnosis. If you are claiming I and my son deserve the limitations and issues this disability has caused him -- because you disagree with me about the Fairness Doctrine -- then you are not a decent human being.

-- -Mona-

I am also saddened to read about your son. Part of my job is to deal with children that are severely disabled; not that I have any daily personal contact. I could not. Every time I get close I start to tear up. There is no way I could be a literalistic Christian after what I have seen. I take comfort in the mystic beliefs that tell me your son will have many more lifetimes and this one is good for him in some way --- damn me, I can not tell you what it is.

Anyway, I wrote to comment to you that I would never have paid much attention to a comment section if there had not been a great war between you and lwm. Now you are making the same move. If the moose is not lwm, he is a twin. I suggest you watch for a sort while and ask yourself about the similarities.
