  • George Washington's Wisdom Would Resolve Much - If Applied

The expanding population of Arabs living under Israeli control creates a future break point. Jews and Arabs will share political rights or Israel must end democracy. A two-nation solution may seem reasonable but I suspect David Frum and brethren who can only "love Israel" prefer the status quo. Faux Warriors must have their wars to write about and watch.

A permanent solution in Israel demands that "just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated." No doubt, modern militarists think George Washington was naive but the words quoted by GG contain the seeds of peace in the middle east.

My favourite Rabbi talks about how Jews and Arabs worked together throughout much of history. He blames those on both sides who profit from chaos for preventing ordinary people from sharing the land and its joys.

One can hope that Obama will restore balance to America's political stage. Israel is to be admired and supported but not followed blindly without regard for the humanity of Palestinians.

  • Glenn's Update III

Just read it. I think Glenn's e-mail correspondent really misses the point, which is not that Obama is more nuanced than the AIPAC cant so dutifully recited by McCain, Hillary and so many other politicians (which it certainly is), or that Goldberg's interview was hostile (which it wasn't). It's the extraordinary belief that the views of the guy with 60% plus Jewish support are somehow more questionable than the guy with 30% support (McCain) and the reasons for that odd belief.

Obama indeed says things that are not directly from the AIPAC hymnal. So do Bush and Wolfowitz when they talk about the legitimate rights and grievances of the Palestinians. U.S. policy regarding Jerusalem and the "road map" also don't conform to AIPAC policy. Until recently, Hillary's support for a more nuanced approach to Iran also didn't constitute "AIPAC talk." Obama is being singled out because he doesn't project the same visceral antipathy towards Iran and muslims that McCain and Hillary have. Quite simply, the media and AIPAC found two candidates who were willing to radically up the ante in hysterical threats towards Israel's enemies - McCain and Hillary - and Obama has conspicuously failed to follow.

Goldberg's interview may not have been hostile, but it is an interview one can't imagine being conducted of McCain or Hillary. The reasons for that are the real issue here.

  • Well, How Do They Feel About Sweden?

Personally, as a Swedish-Alsatian-American, I am beginning to feel slighted. WHEN are the candidates going to be asked about their stance on Swedish/Norwegian fishing rights? And they better answer right, or else... I'm also not sure that Obama measures up on Alsatian issues.

That's how your III update makes me feel, anyway, Glenn.

We're really in Looking Glass territory.

  • Pedinska is found in any trashed bar in Ohio.

Enter any rundown dive in Ohio. Look for the 5'2" girl in high heels puffing a cigar.

Just dare Pedinska to ditch it in the commode. There are no safe entertainments.

That's how I met Pedinska. Just passing, thirsty, through Ohio.

She made me sleep in her Indian TP for a morn garden tour.

4:AM, she'll wake you up, and order you to dig fence post holes.

  • @Christopher Michael Neill

If you'll see Hagee in hell, doesn't that mean you'll be there too? LOL!

Seriously, that Hagee apology means squat! He only mouthed those words to help McCain. As for Donohue breaking a leg jumping to forgive him, that's no surprise. If you look at the feathers on those two birds, you'll see they are the same.

  • interesting read at counterpunch

from the hard left comes the anti-Bush words of conservatives...

[...]When Buchanan looks at the collection of idiots that comprise America’s ruling class, he despairs.

In truth, American power is already broken, and the country is already lost.

The country is lost, because the brownshirt Bush Regime has destroyed the US Constitution with the complicity of the opposition party and the federal courts. There is no organized power that can restore the Constitution or even much concern that it has been overthrown.

The country is broken, because American capitalists have moved offshore so many US manufacturing, engineering, and research jobs that US imports now exceed US industrial production. American dependency on imported manufactured goods, advanced technology goods, and energy is astounding.

Moreover, the dependency is escalating dramatically. In March 2002, prior to Bush’s decision to impose Israel’s will on the Middle East, oil was $25 a barrel. Today oil is $125 a barrel, a five-fold increase that has seen our oil import bill rise from $145 billion in 2006 to $456 billion presently, a $300 billion addition to a trade deficit that was already running $700-$800 billion annually.

There is no possibility of the US closing its trade deficit. The US is able to survive such enormous deficits only because the US dollar is the world reserve currency. This role for the dollar is nearing an end as the world looks for more stable stores of value. Although oil is still nominally priced in dollars, in reality it is being priced in euros as oil producers raise the dollar price with a view to keeping their oil revenues at a constant purchasing power in euros.

When the dollar loses its reserve currency role, foreign financing for US trade and budget deficits will evaporate. US living standards will collapse, and the indispensable omnipower will be just another washed up country. [...]

  • Barbara Rosberg

Can an apple fall further from the tree than that?? David From -- son of Barbara From?? Jaysus, but she must be rolling in the grave. Or how about Tommy Douglas?? Yes, I know, it's only fiction. But to even be involved in a POS like that. The shame, the shame. The guys that wrote this wanker are the same cigar-chompers that go to the poorer parts of the planet with other afficiandos like Rush, pop some Blue Boys, and go play hide the (shriveled) weinie with kids. And the best hit of the day?? Go see Bill 'Gin Blossom' O'Reilly (with a very laughable rug) go ballistic on YouTube. It's a good old world . . . at times. Things to watch out for?? The Kid goes to Israel tomorrow. Wanna bet the Irainans are on red alert??
