"The best lack all conviction, while the worst..."
There is something here which seems profound... yet sounds trivial when put into words. Those who know this kind of thing has been going on tend to respond to news like this with a bit of a "yeah, there they go again." Those who haven't been paying attention, either through apathy or ideological blindness ("my country right or wrong") tend to dismiss news like this.
So who's left to care - and more importantly, to do something about it?
-
People need to do actual jail time for this or we have lost our country.
End of story.

Hoe and pull your own weeds out first America
So what has President Bush said or done? He is the guy who runs Pentagon these days or has since Jan.2001 is he not?
Has President Bush gotten any hot and heavy 'Rev. Wright' styled media exposure and high repeat/rotation/multi-instant replay 'lets talk about Rev.Wright some more' media handling?
If this had taken place under a President Obama would media be so complacent with silence or holding off any reveal/expose?
Does anyone ever go to jail over this? Laws were broken correct? Rules were violated correct?
What does John McCain have to say about this?
Seems some people at Pentagon should be losing jobs, careers and suffering over this. Has anyone been fired or taken to jail yet at Pentagon?
Without real and timely consequences flowing who is given cause to not do this again?
In light of current ramping up of 'fly in and phuck Iran up good' American warmongering going on again which is so reliant on truth and fact being given full slice and dice treatment it would be very useful to see some people being arrested, going to trial and being sent to prison over this Pentagon propaganda scandal somewhere.
Otherwise why keep any laws on the books?
Propaganda is big and oft used tool of despots and dictatorial regimes.
Who in American government is going with idea that this conduct in America does not deserve full, fast and furious reaction, prosecution and consequence?
Recently in San Diego,California around one hundred were arrested in mass raids on a campus for American drug law violation/breaking. Seems to me same arrest activity should be taking place in WashingtonDC as well these days. Or is American law an instrument that only applies to some Americans sometimes dependent on which Americans are being subjected to rule of law and consequences for breaking/violating rule of law.
Pentagon should be cleaned out, zero timed and put on several short and stiff conduct/performance review leashes that last a good ten years for starters.
American media should be subject to full scrutiny as to who let this take place and now refuse to cover why it took place.
Americans have no business preaching to others around this planet about rotted and decayed government and governance.
Hoe and pull your own weeds out first America.

Why this story isn't gaining much traction
I think that a major reason this story is not gaining much traction, and at the same time is being "casually dismissed" by the perpetrating media outlets, is that, despite presenting the retired military analysts as independent, it was unspoken but common knowledge among all concerned -- the Pentagon, the analysts, the media outlets they served, the broader media, and the viewing public -- that the analysts were not independent. And that even the recent revelations aren't that surprising to a cynical public.

Politics Makes Strange Bedfellows
Glenn Greenwald and David Corn at Mother Jones on the CovenantNews.com blog today. Right under Chuck Baldwin of The Constitution Party. I think he might have wanted to burn you at the stake at one time, Glenn. Maybe a stoning? Strange times. Oh, and Alan Stang. Now there is a real nutter. Ask me later.
Chuck Baldwin Site Goes Live!
Baldwin2008.com:
"It will not just be conservatives or liberals, Republicans or Democrats, people of faith or unbelievers that restore America. It will be individuals from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all political persuasions who love liberty enough to fight to maintain it."

Report Pushes Passage of Thought Crimes Bill
Lee Rogers / RogueGovernment.com:
The Internet is now becoming a new front in the phony terror war. Legislation like the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 that is in the forms of HR 1955 and S 1959 which seek to give the government powers to define thoughts and belief systems as homegrown terrorism, is on the brink of being pushed down our throats. HR 1955 was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 404-6 and now it appears as if the U.S. Senate is attempting to justify its future passage.

The Republican Dictatorship
Glenn Greenwald / LewRockwell.com:
Ever since Ronald Reagan famously declared in his 1980 inaugural address that "government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem," Republicans have masqueraded as the party of limited government. Its leaders reflexively pledge to keep government off the backs of regular, hardworking Americans. Homage is paid to the wisdom and insight of the American people, which, Republicans endlessly insist, is far superior to the judgment of government officials.

Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Fuel, Big Fascism
Alan Stang / NewsWithViews.com:
What form of government are we supposed to have? The Founders of this country bequeathed us a system we used to call Free Enterprise, in which the government was supposed to leave business alone. Because of that system, endorsed by scripture, we became the greatest nation known to history. Now, what kind of system do we actually have today? Because the original system has been perverted – first by ordinary criminals, then by the conspiracy for world government – the system we have now, the perversion, began as "mercantilism" and today is best described as Fascism.

Will Independent Truckers Survive?
Isabel Lyman / The New American:
Think you've got it tough? Spending up to $80 bucks to fill your tank with gasoline? Consider my husband's numbers. Last May it cost Wid $800 to fill up his big rig with 300 gallons of diesel fuel. Today it costs him $1,200 -- that's over $4 per gallon for an 18-wheeler that gets 7 miles to the gallon. Ouch.

McCain's Pastor Problem: The Video
David Corn / Mother Jones:
During a 2005 sermon, a "fundamentalist pastor" whom Senator John McCain has praised and campaigned with called Islam "the greatest religious enemy of our civilization and the world," claiming that the historic mission of America is to see "this false religion destroyed." In this taped sermon, currently sold by his megachurch, the Reverend Rod Parsley reiterates and amplifies harsh and derogatory comments about Islam he made in his book, Silent No More, published the same year he delivered these remarks. Meanwhile, McCain has stuck to his stance of not criticizing Parsley, an important political ally in a crucial swing state.
