Prevent the Nuclearization of the Middle East?
"Roberts said that history would judge the president on whether he had prevented the nuclearization of the Middle East. If Iran gets the bomb, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other countries will follow."
Too late. Israel has enough nuclear stockpile to radiate the entire region, thanks to us. Thats why any talk of Iran or another country attacking Israel is pure fantasy. But I forgot: Israel doesn't count because they're all goodness and light (like we are), while muslim countries are pure evil. Silly me.

Political unitards
when we look at other countries we pretend that they have no politics of their own, no internal disagreements, no legacies, no family interests, nothing. They all wear a political unitard. One size fits all.

For some reason my mind went straight to an image Hillary wearing a one piece in some shade of purple. I fought the urge to concuss myself against a cinderblock wall, and then had to read the in depth specifications for a Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU for a while in order to clean out my limbic system (such thoughts have to come from the most primitive area of one's brain).
End tangential rant.
You're right, QS.
A long time ago, they actually taught history classes in high school. European civilization, Middle Eastern societies in the biblical era, the origins of the Axis in the 1930s.
The guys in the Executive Office building don't seem to know much about much.

"Out, out damned spot!"
What will it take to rid us of these lying neocons? Can we end their disastrous influence or is the US a metaphorical Lady Macbeth?

Unmanly behavior
The Bald One:
Paraphrased from a philospy text: "A man stands on a bridge. He sees another man drowning in a cold, icy river below. Does he bear any responsibility by failing to act?"
To answer your question, of course we can do nothing...would you let the man drown?
If this is not analogous, you can certainly make that point, and give your explanation as to why.
Throwing around the "neo-con" label and hurling insults, doesn't accomplish much.
(a) I didn't call you a neocon. I called you a troll.
(b) The responsibility to make the analogy is yours, not mine. When you do, maybe I'll answer whatever the question was.
Here's a counter-conundrum:
If a man is lying in bed asleep when another man breaks into his neighbor's house, surprises them, kills them, then starts to choke, is it the now wakened man's responsibility to save the burglar/murderer of his neighbor? Especially when he recognizes the man as the murderer of his own father?
According to your rules, YOU figure out how that applies or doesn't apply to Iran, then report in this space.

Does Anyone Even Read the National Review
I've struggled for years over the question of allowing myself to get incensed every time a far-right wing mag or program runs fabrications like this. After long years of railing against such crap (to my friends, family, etc.) I realized that no one knew what the American Enterprise Institute was, no one had heard of the National Review. No one (when compared to the legions of reality-television viewers) even watches O'Reilly, Hannity & colmes and the like. I rarely see the National Review on the newstand. Who are we having this conversation with?

Folks
We probably want to leave Electro alone. Take a look at his other letters for a clue. This is a man to whom human intimacy is "a burden, a worry, an anxiety."
I don't know why he Hitler-baits everywhere he goes. Maybe hate is easier for him to deal with than love, or even friendship. But I personally am very uncomfortable playing any part in such a game.
Your mileage may vary.
Just wanted to get that out there.

Nothing to add, but just wanted to see this post again.
That's all there is to it. That's the situation right there.
And the neocons and the poor suckers who worship them are the only people on Earth who claim otherwise.

Grandma was wrong....
....regularity isn't always the best thing.
These bald-faced lies, easily exposed, ripple like a toxic leit-motiv through conservative discourse, with an easy reguarity, a breathtaking fearlessness of consequence, that's so deeply corrupt and inherently sociopathic.
It really is breathtaking, DJO, isn't it? And when you toss their own words back at them, like some perverted version of Superman and bullets, they just bounce off and fall, harmlessly, to the ground.

@Baldie
"is it the now wakened man's responsibility to save the burglar/murderer of his neighbor? Especially when he recognizes the man as the murderer of his own father?"
Answer: No. He ain't worth saving.
You ask easy questions.

Ledeen is a madman
Ledeen has zero credibility. This is a person who floated the idea that after invading Iraq we might have to go to war with France and Germany. Seriously.
http://www.nationalreview.com/ledeen/ledeen031003.asp
"If this is correct [that France and Germany are involved in a plot to bring down America via Muslim terrorism], we will have to pursue the war against terror far beyond the boundaries of the Middle East, into the heart of Western Europe."
Doesn't get much more insane than that.
Regarding Ledeen and his ability to lie without any shame at all. Nothing tops this
http://dailydoubt.blogspot.com/2008/01/michael-ledeen-fanatical-liar.html
FOUR HOURS AFTER THE 9/11 ATTACKS Ledeen posted on his blog that Saddam was responsible for them and that we need to go to war with Iraq!
Finally, someone should remind the president that we are still living with the consequences of Desert Shame, when his father and his father's advisers--most notably Colin Powell and Brent Scowcroft--advised against finishing the job and liberating Iraq. And the president should show the world that he is cut from different fabric, by immediately moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and removing the pettifogging restrictions on the Iraqi Resistance, thereby taking the fight directly to Saddam on his own territory.
If he does that, he will show his antiterrorist people that the rules have changed, and we are serious. If he doesn't, they will cover their asses with legal opinions forbidding them to act effectively.
Machiavelli famously said that it's impossible to get good leaders in peacetime. We will now find out if we have leaders capable of waging war.
