Oh Glenn
Don't you know that Alberta is Canada's answer to Texas?

Clarification
Also, I'm not saying that the official Catholic position (not RW blowhards) on abortion and gay rights is correct.
I'm just saying that what gives K-Lo the right to deem judgement on nun's voting habits? They've spent much more time (one was 98!) studying and living their faith than she has.

Thanks Glenn
As a lifelong Catholic I appreciate your reminding us of the other side of the coin re: the Catholic Church's voiced attitudes about this war. But, and here it comes-
The Church is being hypocritical in that it says one thing, it has uttered statements against the war, and does another thing, it never stops supporting the Republican Party and without a doubt this war is the Republican Party's war.
No religion should ever support any political party, never, never, never. It can speak to the issues, but only up to a point, only up to a point. When that point supports killers, the Rethug party, the killers for profits and political power than the Church has gone way, way, way too far.
Also the Church, in speaking out on certain issues (abortion and gays) in a hateful way just besmirchs itself.
Also, when the Church, in speaking out on certain issues, must never destroy, divide and fracture the social order, the glue which holds a country together. In doing so it then takes upon itself the fullness of blame for whatever happens to that country. And is there any doubt that America is a divided, fractured and now decaying country. The killing machine that America has become is directly the result of the doings of the Catholic Church, the Pope who are willing participants along with the Rethug party.
Next, is there any doubt in anyones mind that the Catholic Church has done very similar things before. In fact the Church has a long, 2000yr history of doing many similar things. Anyone who says these were religious wars of the past is falling into a mental trap which the Church and many Catholics are guilty of, namely, that of not recognizing that this war/ situation is simply more of the same.
So I have to ask myself exactly how is this situation any different than what has gone on so many times before. And it is NOT different. And why is that? Because undergirding it all is the very same, never ending, Catholic ideology. What started these similar things in the past is still extant within Catholic thinking. The components are, !. it is them versus us, it is the Catholics versus all of the non-Catholics of the world(most of the world). This is nothing more than a simplistic binary thought process. This is nothing more than a condemnation of everything and everyone non-Catholic and an it's an us against them mentality, a bunker mentality that the Church keep pushing. Exactly what in the name of God and all of the saints is the Church afraid of. Exactly when does the Church ever get beyond fighting it's seemingly endless religious wars. When does this kind of thinking ever end. And the answer is that it never seems to end.
Another point as to why this destructive attitude towards all of God's children is that the Church rarely ever changes and this means that the Pope now is very little different than Pope Urban who was responsible for the First Crusade wherein the Church went into the ME and slaughtered millions of Muslims and Jews. In fact if memory serves, the Muslims were forbidden to slay innocents while the Catholic hordes were allowed to do so.
No, to me the Catholic Church just goes on and on and on, and does so in a deliberate and intentional way. It never questions it's philosophy of death. To my way of thinking the Pope, any Pope cannot lament the 'Culture of Death" because the Popes and the Church ARE the 'Culture of Death" for religious ideology. Death is death no matter what the reason. But the Church just seems to think death for religious ideals is quite alright and just hunky-dory fine. Well, as far as I am concerned the Church no longer gets a free pass from me. I remember only to well, WWII and the Church's alignment with Hitler, the Nazis and the Fascists.
The Church never thinks it is wrong about anything despite 2000yrs of history that is staring it in the face. And it never changes because it still thinks it is right. Well, if the Church wants to hitch it's star to the Rethug party of criminals, smear artists and character assassins for profit and political power it will do so without me. Moreover I will do whatever I can to hold it responsible for everything it does and says. No more free passes, never, not ever-
If the Church is about the task of dismantling America then I will resist it, totally.
The Church operates on the philosophy of ' a higher good' but it defines that higher good in a way that is consistent with it's religious ideology, and again no matter who dies or is tortured. Do we all remember Augusto Pinochet, Papa Doc Duvalier, Baby Doc Duvalier, Franco, Hitler and his Nazis, Musolini and his Fascists and many more.
When is this endless killing ever going to stop. It seems that as far as the Church s concerned it will never stop until...until what? Until St. Malachy's Prophecy of Popes takes place. When is the family of man ever going to get out from under, when are we ever going to get up out of the gutter of death and slaughter and squalor. When are we ever going to stop crawling and stand up and pull up our fellow man and walk upright toward a greater good and a greater social order; MINUS the killing for religious ideology. It seems that right wing religion is now in this day and age much more of a harm and hindrance than a doer of good.
If the Pope loves the Rethug party of killers for profit and political power than he can have it. They all deserve each other. Da Pope goes his way and I go mine.
