Fred Hiatt on the noble glories of occupation

The Washington Post editorialist says that mere airstrikes are bad because they result in civilian deaths, cause displacement and aid al-Qaida recruitment. Therefore, we should invade and occupy countries instead.

Another Blank

I notice that neither you nor Glenn propose a viable alternative to quelling civil war, state sponsored genocide, or rule by mass murder.

Not to mention those awful Weapons of Mass Destruction! Remember those? Those awful weapons were so awful, and there was so much of them!

What Can You Expect?

I notice that neither you nor Glenn propose a viable alternative to quelling civil war, state sponsored genocide, or rule by mass murder.

It's not gonna stop until you go and do something about it, Shooter. Petreaus is waiting, probably pacing and wondering, "What shall I do? Where the hell is Shooter"?

The photo of war's reality....

`"over the horizon"`.... "bombing campaigns"...

`

Today's Washington Post had several letters to the editor because of the graphic reality. One writer wrote the The Front Page image was necessary to expose war's carnage. People need a "frame of reference" to open the naive eyes, and hearts to see...

` A sad image of a one vibrant baby. * bombed. killed. a "collateral"... a dead baby. Yes. Place more of this truth on the Front Page.

`

Look!

Fred Hiatt. Visualize the reality. glories. an occupation. a bombing daily.... The photo of war's reality.

Look!

I agree with the G. Greenwald comment. In reference to Fred Hiatt's ill mentality.. "reasoning"...

Glenn wrote : "That's the twisted, muddled mind of today's war cheerleader seeking justification for the endless carnage they know they've unleashed."

`

Or,

Fred Hiatt's class of pro-kill punditry, glories, and chomps, perpetually, eternally, gnawing on the former Living Human's carrion (appropriate and figurative description. Homer).

Sick :

Fred request mayo with his toothless, bloody, and red gop`politico gums. Many a charred corpses are consumed to satiate Hiatt's ilk's blood lust. They now they kill with continued belligerence the Innocent elders, mothers, fathers, the youth in their prime, and two year old babies.

Toddlers. And many,

Two year old Babies.

Well there you have it, it's all our fault. All the time, every time. This is why I personally cheer every time an American dies. 911 was a good thing and we can only pray for an atomic sterilization of the American land mass and all the little war criminals infecting the earth from there. Exterminate them all. I am 1 billion percent with you.

Keep holding their feet to the fire.

When I hear arguments such as these from Hiatt, I'm reminded the "new" virtual reality worlds on the Internet (such as our discussions here) are nothing new. You live in D.C., you're a "journalist", you communicate in a kind of insular inside your head "online" world whether you were writing for newspapers-magazines-radio-television back then or writing as a print journalist, online journalist, blogger, game player today. It's all words on a screen, words on paper.

Time magazine was famous for editing the copy of their reporters in the field in Vietnam to reflect the story they were getting from the Pentagon in Washington. Those guys in the field had it wrong, believe the generals then, believe the generals now.

The only thing I can think to inject a little reality into the mix, force the cloistered Hiatts of the world to face the consequences of their fantasy existence is for the broader nation to see these pictures of dead two year old kids; see, hear and read stories that explore the realities of war. Exactly what Glenn Greenwald is doing here. Makes you a traitor to even suggest such an approach, of course - aiding the abetting the enemy and that - but there are consequences to living life in a dream where reality can be turned upside down with a series of keystrokes, consequences to not challenging this crap.

Keep holding their feet to the fire.

@ Electro

You're one of those guys who "don't do nuance," is that right?

Which practical efforts are those

practical efforts to stop participants from killing themselves and others

Our soldier are armed to the teeth and go out on patrols. When fired on, they return fire and presumably take out people who are willing to fire on US soldiers. Is this how they help stop the violence?

Everyone automatically assumes that the presence of the US troops is helpful but no one has yet explained to me, (or for that matter to them) how their presence PHYSICALLY accomplishes what is being claimed. Exactly how do Americans with guns go about preventing violence?

Just saying it happens doesn't make it true. If there's something I don't know about the nature of our Iraq mission, then I'm all ears.

I tried being reasonable but here at Salon they don't do sanity all that well. Either you're the HyperChristMarxChe or you're the FatWhiteFascistHitler. there's no middle ground.

But I will tell you that I did in fact lose someone I knew in Iraq. She was fighting for the OTHER side.

As Hillary memorably said of the Moveon.org nutters, "these are the type of people we are dealing with."

Ironic, ain't it?

That MoveOn was formed to *support* the Clintons and now is being castigated by them..

Oy Gevalt! How I tried!

Just press the "other letters" button, folks, and you can judge for yourself.

Me, I don't think this one's quite healthy, like Glenn said.

But of course, given Glenn's "provincialism" what does he know?

Derbig Mooser

Let me clarify that 'Derbig', in case you're wondering.

Terrorism waged in the US is a GOOD thing. Too bad no one's that good at it. If you want change, then start blowing up malls in Iowa. If you want to blog and give gratifying strokes to Glenn Greenwald then do that. Either way, stand up for whatever the fuck it is you believe in. Or if you can't, then hang a big sign around your neck that says "Pussy".

Did you know that the last man involved in the plot to kill Hitler died today? All the whiners here have about 0.04% of the guts that takes compared to their blogging outrage, nitpicking and other assorted mental defects.
