The Washington Post editorialist says that mere airstrikes are bad because they result in civilian deaths, cause displacement and aid al-Qaida recruitment. Therefore, we should invade and occupy countries instead.

    Unsurpringly, that's not a new argument

    I've seen Victor Davis Hanson argue that the "Clintonite" policy of firing cruise missiles at countries and the civilian deaths it caused somehow justifiesd the Bushist strategy of long, drawn-out occupations.
