Again, with the NASCAR
Maybe Jeremiah Wright will be the headline that distracts us when we start bombing Iran.
In McCain's best pal John Hagee's book "Jerusalem Countdown", he makes the unscriptural claim that war with Iran will bring about the Armageddon.
And in fact, Hagee said outright:
"The United States must join Israel in a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's plan for both Israel and the West...a biblically prophesied end-time confrontation with Iran, which will lead to the Rapture, Tribulation, and Second Coming of Christ."
Now, surely, surely, surely, every McCain supporter and concern troll going on about "character" is completely on-board with all of this, right? And surely the Super Pundits Club is too, right? They don't find annnnyyyything controversial here?
Coz, well y'know, otherwise, they'd all be great big fat fucking hypocrites.
Your disdain for a certain segment of America (those who like NASCAR or shop at Wal-Mart) is telling, and you're among the blind who will wake up shellshocked on the morning after election day wondering what the hell happened.
So answer this simple question: What precisely is it about Wright's racist rants about black brains and white brains, why white people can't clap or sing, do you not find offensive? And pray tell what would be your reaction if a Republican said such things about black people.
You are among the blind, blind, blind who are so dazzled by Obama's empty bullshit that you can't see the oncoming train about to mow you down.
Oh, but it's such a trivial train, and because I don't care about it, it really can't be that big of a train. Let's concentrate on other things.
Ker-splat!
A little caustic humor in this post helped me wake up (I'll be at work until late tonight) and that humor is certainly well deserved.
On TV the last week and a half, it's been all J. Wright, all the time. Same with Joan's so-called columns. Don't even bring up B. Williams and P. Noonan; American political life has turned into the film "Broadcast News".
Somewhere, William Hurt is laughing. At all of us.
C'mon folks, the NASCAR equation is easy to figure out.
You watch NASCAR if you live too far from a professional football arena. My OK relatives love NASCAR, my MO relatives love football.
Simple.
(oh, hell, but they built that nascar track up north kansas city, so, nevermind... wait, if i say the chiefs are sucking, does it balance out the equation?)
A man brings his little girls to a hate-mongering church each week, then tries to run for President. (poor children absorbing such hate for so many years with such tender ears)
This is becoming one of the canonical right-wing talking points about Obama and Wright. Won't somebody think of the children!!
How odd we haven't heard any concern from the right about the millions of children being indoctrinated in Christian churchs to hate homosexuals, to reject science, and generally to think of themselves as sinful wretches. I, for one, will be glad to start labelling this indoctrination as child abuse.
Where did you get that Hagee quote? I'm not doubting its veracity. I want to use it in another context but will need to cite the source. (Sorry, but profs don't accept "some guy on the Salon letters page.") You'll understand, I hope.
The parameters you observe when commenting are admirable. You got patience and tact, too. Baby, you're "all three".
I used to wonder why you did it. Now I know, think you are correct, but now I wonder, why? Anyway, you's a better man than me, Gunga Din.
Stop blaming Joan, stop blaming the media and start placing the blame where it belongs, on J. Wright.

The fact that Barak associated with the man with utterly poisonous views for two decades says a lot about Barak.
Huh? Can anybody tell me what exactly is the criticism of Wright this time?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/28/us/politics/28text-wright.html
I've been looking, and all I find are descriptive words, such as "fiery", "angry", "rant" , and "Obama's outraged". Not one quote cited. What's wrong with anything Wright said? The only wrong things I can find is the media reaction , and Obama's "denounciation" of Wright . If anything, Obama should be criticized for the "lyin'- weasel politician" act. ( I know- he has to.) Is there any way we can take Obama off the ballot, and put Wright on? The majority of the media seems convinced he is running , so let's have at it. At least with Wright, we know he has principles, and won't abandon them just because it doesn't fit the MSM's narrative.
That dose of political commonsense is welcome. Unfortunately, the racism at salon.com keeps on coming ala Joan Walsh. Rev. Wright is now a "narcissist." That's what desparate people do when they don't want to deliberate or engage someone with whom they disagree. They psychoanalyze her or him. It's easier than saying, "here's where I disagree with Rev. Wright." It's easier to psychoanalyze than to actually take up his argument about the black church, and the fact that maybe just maybe he was put on the defensive and needs to defend something worth defending in the Black community, that is the Black community that isn't part of the official punditry of this increasingly corrupted country.
People from Tallahassee have been saying shitty things about black people for 150 years. I grew up in the South, I've heard 'em all -- and not just occasionally, either. Your piety is a new adornment, and I said, it's transparently self-serving.
I'm not the guy who thinks that Wal*Mart and NASCAR are the natural target market for this bullshit, am I? I have more respect for shoppers with limited incomes, and shade-tree mechanics who like seeing home-town boys make good. I'd never assume that any racist pig who set up shop in the neighborhood would automatically get their vote.
This isn't going to fly. I'm perfectly content to await the outcome in November, but I don't think you should be.
