An article worthy of time taken to read now at Zmag.org/Znet about Israeli soldiers refusal to be used in IDF occupation of Arab Palestine.
Written by Stephen Lendman it is entitled 'Breaking the Silence-Israeli Soldiers Speak' dated April 26,2008.
Excerpt from Lendmans article:
"We...served...long weeks every year in spite of clear cost to our personal lives, have been on reserve duty all over the Occupied Territories, and were issued commands and directives that had nothing to do with the security of our country(but were given only to perpetuate) our control over the Palestinian people. We have seen the bloody toll this Occupation exacts from both sides."

It is a long read but worthy of time taken to do so.
I read books and newspapers. Simply shouting insults at me doesn't make you right. It just makes you a Salon reader. So I'll ask you to detail these purported 5000, unless you read books too.
I'm not sure of the page number, you'll have to check for yourself.
Dear Glenn,
So is it better to be their worst nightmare or to annihilate them and which statement is more likely to garner a campaign contribution or positive spin in corporate media? That's a close call we better get an expert.
McBrain is the reason Hillary hangs on spending OPM because she knows if she can get by or over on Barrack, she is home free. McBrain represents a free pass to the white house and hers is the classic frustration of so close and yet so far away.
Would really be nice to apply some of this spare time to identifying and getting rid of those members of congress who are part of this same crime wave in this same election cycle. It's pretty obvious who the enablers have been and who needs them.
As the general election unfolds it will be hilarious to watch the lying of the republican machine because the jig is up. There is no more credibility and no more benefit of the doubt. And this time the position is so desperate that the lies will have to be as extreme as the liars and that will make them obvious to even those deepest in denial.
Thank you for your good work,
Conrad C. Elledge
BTW, the current king of Jordan's Great Grandfather was assassinated at the al Aqsa in 1951 by a Palestinian after he (the king) suggested that he could make peace with the state of Israel. Another reason why the Hashemites are not fond of rabble rousers.
BTW, the Prime minister of Israel was assassinated after speaking at a peace rally in Tel Aviv in 1995 by a right-wing Jew. Another reason why no one likes right-wing Jews.
The Palestine Red Crescent (the Arab affiliate of the Red Cross) has consistently kept track of Palestinian deaths in the territories since 2001. Sorry, if I insulted you. If you're going to make ridiculous claims, make sure that you have at least some kind of propaganda link. Then some of the heat will be off you as a propagandist and you can blame your sources. I don't think anyone has made the kind of claim that you made.

Come on, *nobody*?
From "Off the Wire", Seattle Times, Aug 10 1991
A woman aboard a flight from Berlin to Tel Aviv tore off her dress and, completely naked, shouted "Bring me Shamir! I want Shamir!" She was apparently referring to Israel's 75-year old prime minister.
Yeah, i think my quibble is with "threat".
Also, while we're at it, "Arab street".
n a largely forgotten and entirely forgettable article in Foreign Affairs* last November, John McCain pledged to simultaneously restore the US Information Agency and the Office of Strategic Services. His goals are twofold: Use USIA to get the US “message” out to the world. And for those bits of the world that don’t like our message, use the OSS to make them like it. This bold foreign policy strategy is certain to succeed.
In general the McCain message will reflect the amiable personality of the aged but feisty Arizonan. Geritol for everyone. A universal bed time of eight-thirty. Afternoon naps for all. Eat your fiber. Love MY country. Or fuck off and die.
Individual nations will get personal messages tailored to fit their particular circumstances. To unfriendly places the word will be short and sweet. Stop calling us the Great Satan. Let McDonalds and Merck poison you too. Learn to play baseball and football. Start reading the bible. In English. Wear Nikes, not sandals. Make bandwidth room for American Idol and Bill O’Reilly. Allow home delivery of The Wall Street Journal. Open Disney-erhan. Or else the OSS will bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
For friendly nations like Canada, the message will be more nuanced. Forget that socialized medical system of yours and turn the business over to fine US companies like Blue Cross and HealthSouth. Forget your tree hugging forestry preservation policies and turn your lumber over to International Paper. Start spending more, a lot more, on defense. Buy your weaponry from fine US companies like Grumman and Lockheed. Bar anyone whose name includes Abu or El from emigrating to your shores. Tell those Quebecois to stop speaking frog. Because if you don’t the OSS will stage an anschluss.
Taking a page out of the George W. Bush playbook, John McCain promises to remake the world in our image, only this time we’ll do it right. And it can't possibly get any better than that. Can it?
Maybe he mean that as president he would pressure Israel to stop inflammatory new settlements, quit greenlighting disproportionate airstrikes and support a territorially coherent Palestinian state.
All of these policy shifts would result in reduced justifications for Hamas' militant ideology, producing a reduction in their political influence -- and thus be "Hamas' worst nightmare."
Nah. It's more important to get a cheap applause line from the rubes at a rally. If the rubes are cheering, the M$M will assume he's Serious.
