  • RE "Does anyone really believe that Obama is not patriotic, that he belives in terrorism etc, seriously."

  • @ Glenn

[I]t is ... difficult to find people in the world who take us seriously when we righteously and very selectively throw those terms around.

But here we touch on one of the central habits of the conservative mind, which is to really not give a good goddamn what "people in the world" think. The paradigmatic conservative is concerned about what his pals think, and (at election time) what a certain proportion of the public thinks, but beyond that he couldn't give a rat's ass what other people think -- unless of course they agrees with him. This goes double for people who seem "foreign" -- who speak a different languages, wear a different skin color, or belong to a different culture.

It will be noted that, in purely practical terms, this is a remarkably stupid habit of thought. Those people you don't see can actually make their presence felt in lots of ways. For example, a few of them might fly an airplane or two into buildings of yours. But of course you mustn't start paying attention to them then, except as symbols of evil. To do so would be to reward them.

Which brings us to another conservative habit of thought: it is never as important to act effectively as it is to act righteously. Visiting violence upon an "evildoer" is far more gratifying than actually trying to find effective ways to reduce the amount of "evil" in the world. And so we go, swirling the drain of self-extinction.

Thank you Mr. Krauthammer, for your ongoing contributions to the vortex of folly.

  • Krauthammer is the epitome of bitter

Of all the columnists in the M$M whom I have absolutely no use for, Chuck here is near the top of the list. He's contemptible and shameless.

Remember Barack's speech in Philadelphia in March? Where Obama broke down his feelings on race? Spoke to us as if we were adults, that speech? Here's what Bitter Chuck said about it:

    Glenn, great post.

  • Speaking of terrorists

Henry Kissinger (terrorist mass murderer, war criminal) lives right up the road from me in Kent, CT. George Bush (terrorist, mass murderer, war criminal) is visiting him today as he's holding a fundraiser for a Republican who would like to unseat Chris Murphy (Democrat) who unseated Nancy Johnson (Republican).

Talk about an axis of evil. These two guys between them (Kissinger and Bush) have really made a mess of the world and I cannot, for the life of me, understand why both of them are not in jail.

The fact that these guys are partying and raising money (and not in jail) while Obama gets in trouble for not wearing a flag pin or for informally knowing a reformed '60s protester brings into sharp relief how fucked up our country is: media, voters all of it.

  • What about...

What about Bush ties with the bin Laden family? I recall seeing video that the bin Laden family supported clerics in various countries who in turn turned over money to Osama.

  • Through the Looking Glass

I wish Mr. Krauthammer would tell me how lying, distorting, and slandering were evidence of flaws in his own character. But I suppose his magic mirror only works on others and not himself.

  • Perspective

    is priceless. Thank you Glenn.

  • being careful of fallacies

Let's not fall into the favorite habit of the right-wing noise machine-justifying virtually anything with the mantra that "The other side does it too".

The reason the Ayers kerfluffle is so ridiculous is because it's so, well, ridiculous. Obama knows the guy. They served on a committee together. The guy hosted a fund-raiser. Big fricking deal. Whoever it was up-thread who was asking why Ayers wasn't being shunned by the faculty, students, and everyone else who knows him, or, in the alternative, why all those people weren't being called upon to answer for their "relationship" with the man has it exactly right. Why oh why doesn't someone just do to the right what the right deserves when it starts on some stupid talking point like this? Laugh at them! Keep laughing. Nothing will destroy their credibility faster.

  • Charles Krauthammer: Nutcase

Yellow Dog mentions the time Krauthammer screamed at his rabbi during a religious service. Krauthammer, this psychiatrist, is a case of arrested development.

Somebody there should have dealt with Krauthammer as one deals with an obstreperous child. Take him outside, feed him a lollipop, and tell him that if he behaves, he'll be let back in.

Psychiatry has been criticized as a bunch of nebulous, hocus-pocus bullshit. I see why Krauthammer went into it. In any case, I think he'd be his own best patient.

  • evils

Mr. Krauthammer is the epitomy of what is wrong in America today. The idea that the U.S. makes its own definition of terrorism which as you say means it never applies to the U.S. or its equally morally and ethically challenged supporters. He seems to be oblivious to the hypocrisy evident in every word he writes and unfortunately so is the president. I don't think for one second that the president has ever contemplated that after seven years of constant lies emanating from his mouth no one believes him anymore. The same with Krauthammer. Everytime he writes anything it is immediately suspect. The world has his number thank goodness.

  • American Hypocrisy

Once again the main stream media has failed to expose the U.S. as hypocritical in its terrorism policies. In 1986, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) found the U.S. guilty for, among many other crimes, bombing Nicaraguan harbors thus destroying many commercial vessels. Now the ICJ didn't call it an act of terrorism but it's obvious that this was an act of terrorism. Thereafter, the U.S. violated Boland Amendment's I & II by supplying "contra" rebels (aka terrorists) with weapons to overthrow the Sandinista Government. Reportedly, then President Ronald Reagan admitted that the purpose of these actions were to overthrow the [democratically elected] Sandinista Government. To some this may be old news; however, it still begs the question: When is the U.S. Government going change its hypocritical policies that keeps coming back to haunt us as the "Imperial Hypocrite?"
