  • Speaking of terrorists...

Don't I remember Krauthammer meeting Menachem Begin on one of Begin's trips to the U.S. in the '70's? Why did Charles decide to associate with a terrorist?

  • Clarification of Bill Ayers Statements

    From Wikipedia:

Ayers is quoted as having told The NY Times, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." When asked if he would "do it all again," Ayers supposedly replied, "I don't want to discount the possibility." Ayers protested the reporter's work in a Letter to the Editor of the New York Times published September 15, describing the interview thus: "This is not a question of being misunderstood or 'taken out of context', but of deliberate distortion." In the ensuing years, he has repeatedly avowed that "no regrets" had been spoken in reference to his efforts to oppose the Vietnam War, and that "we didn't do enough" had been spoken in reference to his opinion that efforts to stop the United States from waging the Vietnam War were obviously inadequate as the war dragged on for a decade. Ayers has maintained that the two statements were not intended to insinuate a wish they had set more bombs.

  • One Man's Terrorist...

Here's Krauthammer seeming very favorably inclined toward a terrorist in the May 11, 1998 edition of the Weekly Standard:

The late Menachem Begin, of blessed memory, fully believed that his sacrifice of Sinai, with its air bases and oil, was worth the inauguration of peaceful relations with the most important country in the Arab world.

I wonder, could even Krauthammer, who is nothing if not shameless, deny that the bombing of the King David Hotel was a terrorist act?

  • wrong

the most politically manipulated term in the english language is "racist."

  • Reportage as terrorism

    Charles Krauthammer - wordy terrorist

  • Krauthammer condems Obama for someone he met as an 8 year old

yet Krauthammer gladly associates himself with the policies of an admitted war criminal: George W. Bush. Bush freely admitted condoning torture. Why does Krauthammer maintain friendly relations with an unrepentant war criminal?

  • How it works

Dr Bosch spelled it out clearly enough: To graduate from Terrorist to Patriot, you need to claim the right of belligerence. Just like W did.

Ayers didn't do that. One might wonder why. Was it because he doesn't truly believe in his evil anti-American cause? Was it because he is a madman, who doesn't believe in following the rules, or believe in rules at all?

Obama may not have a ready explanation, though he has proved himself to be quite facile with words. But it's about time he spoke to the American people and explained why, when Ayers himself doesn't seem to believe his own actions were pure and patriotic, Obama still stands by him.

  • Kraut?

    God damn german nazi.

  • But...

    But Obama is 'black'.

They can't come out and actually say that but they can smear him with every piece of filth they can manufacture. They are above 'He spits on sidewalks.' but that's about all that they won't say against him.

Bush's 'War on Terraâ„¢' has always been a 'do as I say, not as I do' exercise in hypocrisy. The very fact that scion of the bin Laden family, a longtime Bush family friend and business partner, Osama bin Laden still draws breath is the most visual example of his 'selective enforcement' in this 'war'. Ironically paying Pakistan BILLIONS of dollars over the past few years could be seen as money to keep Osama safe.

Calling it the 'war on reason' or some such would be far better. Maybe a more accurate name would be 'The War On America' because after 9.11.2001, Bush has accomplished more than Osama and his faction could have ever believed possible. America is stretched thin, to the breaking point. We are broke, destitute, despised, feared and hated. Bush has turned The United States into a pariah what with his swagger and horrible diction. Like every bully, he just doesn't (or does) get the clue.

His version of 'diplomacy' involves his fake cowboy routine, his 'aww shucks' act, his 'certain look in the eye, an easy smile' and a truncheon. The world breathes a sigh of relief that he and Dick Cheney are leaving the leadership of America, but I'm sure are fearful of the talk that McCain could be worse.

But Bush doesn't just surround himself with violent terrorists. (Although a look at most of the 'Coalition of the Willing' reads like a who's who of despotic, brutal nations) He coddles economic terrorists as well. It's as if the Bush family has bought 'The Fletcher Memorial Home' and constructed the 'Bush wing' to little fanfare.

That he is so highly revered by so many in corporate America is just recognition of the vast achievements that he has bestowed at their door. That he is still revered by his party in Congress is just courtesy for providing them with so many years of unfettered brutal rule. That he is so revered by so many Americans is in recognition of what the media has done to support him and his administration.

Yes, altogether now: 'Bush is a fraud'. Now if only the media 'watch dogs' would put their teeth back in and get off the stoop and start growling at the people INSIDE the house...

  • Two wrongs.....

not making a right, is the usual response by someone who doesn't want to explain the first wrong.
If you're going to bash Krauthammer for supporting bombing you're going to have to condemn Ayers for actually doing it.

  • Krauthammer/Begin

Does anyone have a link to the quote attributed to him above? I'm only finding that attributed to others? Or a link to Krauthammer having met or praised Begin at all?

  • The most...

the most politically manipulated term in the english language is "racist."

    How about 'anti-semitic' too?

  • Bless you Glenn

I have pointed out in various comments how ridiculous it is that the death squad enthusiasts of the right wing in the 1980s and their community of ex-tyrants and narcoterrorists and assorted thugs finding new home & work from South Florida goes unmentioned while a vague association with a Weather Underground nut merits major press and debate coverage. But with work & all it's hard to go find the relevant documents. Thanks again.

Of course, my memory is ancient, and I remember the minor scandal of actual old fascists (Ukrainian & Romanian, WWII era) being in the Republican Party's Ethnic Outreach Committees, but, you know, this is far less historically meaningful than having a preacher who has said some bad things in church -- because, being from the rural South, of course, I never, ever, ever heard a preacher condemning the U.S. as the Whore of Babylon, or gleefully anticipating the holy fire which would come and burn our secular society off the map, etc., and saying such things on daily radio broadcasts.

No, no, Republicans never associate with Terrorists, because any Republican who cavorts with Terrorists are actually Supporting Freedom Fighters, and any right wing preachers who condemn the USA and want it destroyed by God are just being colorful Southern characters.
