@aycharaych

Up until the point that I retired in 1991, the senior rank ass kissers were in the minority. I don’t know the percentages today. I do believe that the travesty and dilemma posed by Iraq, has made it easier to be able to discern who is on which side. It is not painful for me to recognize truth and hypocrisy. That may be why I didn’t go beyond Lt. Col. and why I avoided the Pentagon because the percentage of ass kissers was much higher there.

"PDA, Jebbie

Its ok, I know a lot of stuff goes over people's heads here."

Thanks for the break. Last time we spoke, you told me you were an expert on lying. I can now add another line to your already seriously impressive resume':

Knower of short folks!

Not to be taken in the Biblical sense, of course.

Reilly...

That transcript is just incredible!!! My god, I've stayed out of the Brown issue because I haven't really watched him enough to form an opinion compared to the other brain-dead 24 hour cable anchors. But this is just ridiculous. The case was not only sealed, it was dismissed!!!!

My original point

was that your posts are absurd. First you argued about whether or not the Air Force needs better weaponry to kill "nomadic goat herders". Then you apologized about the statement to Iranians (?????) in a typo filled reply that gave the impression that you were only semi-literate.

The comment, however, was not directed at you, but to regular posters who generally fail to take some to task for commentary that is well below the bar intellectually, as well as offensive in its ignorance.

Silence is Golden

regular posters who generally fail to take some to task for commentary that is well below the bar intellectually, as well as offensive in its ignorance

Look, they asked me, and they asked nicely, too, but I'm sorry, I just can't stop. It's like dancing a rhetorical Limbo!

But why do you depend on others? We all know who the hell you're talking about! Ask me yourself!

Thursday, April 24, 2008 02:48 PM

Sorry, meant Jebbie

Don't worry Derbig, I don't really take anything you say seriously.

Adding Injury to Insult

Oh, that's good. Who are we talking about? I can't do much, but damnit, I comprise the lowest bar around here. Just set me where you want, oomex.

Maybe you should grow some balls and address whoever it is you seem to be concerned about.

Those typos, you mention, are the result of using a brand new laptop I just acquired, combined with a healthy dose of Prednisone, a corticosteroid I have to take to stay alive.

If the world, however, starts becoming inhabited with more Omooex's/Shooters, I may have to give serious thought to skipping a dose or two now and then.

By the way, there was no demonstration of ignorance in either of those posts. That you appear to believe otherwise, might be considered such a demonstration however since, other than mentioning typos, you seem to have failed miserably to demonstrate why you believe my statement was the result of ignorance.

Please try.

@oomex

Oomex, you know as well as me that the only thing to do now is start a blog about the comments section of Glenn's blog! We can establish a rating system, and so much else! We'll call it "Stolen Territory"? What do you think? Blogger is free, ya'know.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 02:54 PM

Jebbie

You've explained a lot about your disposition.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 02:58 PM

@oomex

See what I mean? You could do a post about prednisone and it's effect on co-ordination. You could get all kinds of digs in.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 02:58 PM

Derbig

Why don't you call it "Five Geriatric Guys and Their Sockpuppets".

Thursday, April 24, 2008 02:58 PM

@ omooex

Well, I guess I'd qualify as a regular, and if you're trying to offend me, you're going to have to try harder.

Jebbie's original comment resonated with me, as I remember quite clearly the use of free-fire grids in Viet Nam to shoot up peasants with high-tech weaponry. The point, of course, is that weapons of disgusting lethality, originally developed to fight nations with equally devastating weaponry on an equal basis have come increasingly to be used against the defenseless. We not only excuse this, we positively delight in it. Watch an hour or two of the Military Channel if you find that difficult to accept.

It's clear enough that Jebbie reflected later on what he wrote, and realized that someone might take his nomadic goat herder comment as an insult to Middle Eastern societies, and to Iran in particular, which is clearly a regional power of some sophistication, and a formidable adversary, even if its weaponry isn't precisely the equal of ours.

What followed was exactly what happens with almost anyone here when a half-formed thought is rushed into print without adequate proofreading. I've certainly gotten my tongue twisted around my eyeteeth here on occasion, and so have you.

So my question is, where's the beef? If you want to be the arbiter of elegance for the UT comments section, go ahead and give it a shot. If you want to claim that these unnamed regulars discriminate against certain commenters -- yourself perhaps? -- no one's likely to try to stop you. To be honest, though, I don't think you'll convince anyone who isn't already convinced.

Timberman

If you're trying to prove my point for me, then you're doing exceedingly well.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 03:05 PM

@oomex

So my question is, where's the beef?

"Stolen Territory" You want me to go ahead and get the domain name?

Thursday, April 24, 2008 03:07 PM

And with that...

I call a truce. We will all fight another day. I don't mean to heap it on to the ailing. Peace and long life to all.

If you’re interested in military life

Salon has an article about a PBS documentary series airing Sunday called Carrier. Reading the article, it sounds like the series shows life aboard a carrier that is not a propagand piece, but what it would be like if you were assigned to a carrier, warts and all.

@oomex

Why don't you call it "Five Geriatric Guys and Their Sockpuppets"

oomex, you ever read anything by Dale Carnegie?
