Letters to the Editor

Last night's pathetic "debate" was a perfect microcosm of how our political discourse is conducted and our elections decided.
  • So I was watching the local news yesterday

And they captured in a graphic everything what's wrong. "Balance". We're Balanced! But News isn't supposed to be balanced. We don't want news to be balanced. Do you know why?

Because news is supposed to be facts, information. It's not supposed to be points of view. It's not supposed to be some half assed gaggle of fat screaming guys pretending to know something. News is data. There isn't supposed to BE anything to "Balance"

"Today on NBC, BOTH sides of the Gravity Issue and how it can effect your childrens' health"

"We're Fair AND Balanced! Because it might be raining or it might not be raining right now. You NEED to know all sides of this difficult issue."

You see - somewhere along the line the 'news' and I count the bloggers like Glenn among them - got confused and thought we all needed to replace information with their opinions because God forbid anyone think a complete thought on their own. Balance means that some disconnect gigantic head somewhere is sifting through information and determining which predigested bits of it they can spoon out to you to ensure that they lead you to the conclusion they want to have while you pretend that you arrived at it on your own.

And of course the OTHER side of this issue is that people are monkeys and can't tell one idea from another, good or bad, right or wrong. Everything is everything. All Hail Postmodernism.
