It's probably a good thing
By and large liberals don't like this kind of thing, they are ghettoized big city folk akin to Lenin's prolateriet and acdademics. -- hunthorse
You don't seem to know fuck-all about liberals. I'd say that gives us an advantage.

hunthorse out/over.
It's something like creamed Popeye spinach with Spring onions. You know? Canned food.
It's stuffed in a rusty tin can.
Creamed corn is yellow shucked horse corn. Pigs in France won't eat it be~Cause ii's so goo awful, soft, and so mushy
Open the can. Use a GOP screwdriver. Poke it. Open the mouth. Gulp. Then ya's don't need to crawl under a goat, donkey, cow, or hog udder after foraging green spinach. Sip. It's a CEO's idea. It's a Wall Street dinner.
It's a modern convenience.
It build rotten backbones.

@ hunthorse and Good Celery: Ode On A Goat
Lovely frolicking nimble be
Piaffe, arabesque and passage
Thy gaits, so improvised
Thy miniature hooves, of such might
Thy raucuos raspberry mid-flight
Thy argument never compromised
Thy noggin always bent in quest of massage
A twirl, a whirl of chaotic joy-os-ity
(I used to have several goat companions at my former animal sanctuary. I sure do miss them - especially this time of year - kidding season. Thanks for the references and for calling up memories of unbounded chaos, messes, fun and joy.)

Because he is a dumbass lawyer
The reason UC-Berkley Law School should give the ax to Professor Yoo has nothing to do with academic freedom. It is because the legal opinions he has rendered are indicative of a profoundly incompetent lawyer who I would not even retain to bail my dog out of the pound.

"prolateriet"
You don't seem to know fuck-all about liberals. I'd say that gives us an advantage.
Neither does he seem to know what proletariat means, let alone its spelling.
If there is hope, it lies in the proles.

Most Fitting ...
Wouldn't one of the most fitting ends for Yoo be a student boycott of his classes? Aren't there some student democrat or progressive organizations there that could organize such an action? If not, then they deserve exactly what was hired for them .... a legal pervert. And why aren't the parents paying for their kid's education there expressing their outrage? (Unless they all agree with what Yoo stands for ...???)

Ché Pasa
May I try to paint a picture with broad brush-strokes? I don't have time to craft a detailed supported inventory of the progress We, the People have made against the self-interested Bush Tory regime (I'm facing a certain April 15th deadline!).
The cumulative effect of various "watchers" (some within gov't and the military, some in establishment media, and some on the internet) are steadily shedding more light on the Bush regime's seizure of more state power against the individual. I think that light will enable a kind of photosynthesis into more pressure against the oppressive Bush regime, effective pressure.
We're not seeing any final 'victory' (or 'greening,' to force the metaphor) yet, but there is good reason to believe that maintaining the steady application of pressure and light on gov't and on the press will yield results. Think about John Yoo (a purchase point upon which to pry open the lawlessness and amorality of the regime), the "Principals Meeting," Telcom immunity/warrantless surveillance, increasing popular support for non-military resolution of the crisis engendered by the occupation of Iraq, positive political momentum against the GOP since 2006.
Does this serve to paint the picture I see in my mind?
Maybe someone else could help me with this?
Maybe I am a fool.

As though there is sudden shock
Yoo was just a bagman, delivering papers that would baffle anyone who hadn't read the Bill of Rights, including the President and almost the entire Congress.
Yes, the American people elected those representatives to do whatever was necessary to make them feel comfortable and secure ... pleased that the Constitution would not stand in the way of repelling every imaginable boogeyman in the world.
But, isn't that what democracy is all about?
The purpose of government is to satisfy every whim and want of the majority, no matter the cost, no matter the facts. Didn't we all take Civics 101?
Government is immune from reality; immune from ethics; immune from the rule of law. That's why we love them, even if none of their annointed can bowl anything higher than a 37.
Government is really a wonderful little miracle, you know.

A new Dem “Dirty Dozen”….
GG: “As a country, we have repeatedly endorsed what John Yoo enabled. In addition to abolishing habeas corpus, the 2006 Military Commissions Act (.pdf) "insulated government officials from liability for many of the violations of the War Crimes Act they might have committed during the period prior to 2006," as Yale Law Professor Jack Balkin put it. It also vested vast discretion with the President to determine what constitutes "torture." Nonetheless, it was passed by an overwhelming Congressional majority, with substantial bipartisan support, without even a filibuster being attempted, and with the blessing of alleged "torture opponent" John McCain. It still has not been even partially repealed.
That overwhelming Congressional majority would not have been possible without the acquiescence of these 12 DINO slugs:
Carper (D-DE) Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-2441
Johnson (D-SD) Up for reelection in 2008 (202) 224-5842
Landrieu (D-LA) Up for reelection in 2008 (202) 224-5824
Lautenberg (D-NJ) Up for reelection in 2008 (202) 224-3224
Lieberman (D-CT)* Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-4041
Menendez (D-NJ) Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-4744
Nelson (D-FL) Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-5274
Nelson (D-NE) Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-6551
Pryor (D-AR) Up for reelection in 2008 (202) 224-2353
Rockefeller (D-WV) Up for reelection in 2008 (202) 224-6472
Salazar (D-CO) Up for reelection in 2010 (202) 224-5852
Stabenow (D-MI) Up for reelection in 2012 (202) 224-4822
I know it’s an uphill battle; but all should have primary challenge bull’s eyes affixed firmly on their backs whenever they confront their constituencies again.

Gordon / Ché Pasa
May I try to paint a picture with broad brush-strokes? I don't have time to craft a detailed supported inventory of the progress We, the People have made against the self-interested Bush Tory regime (I'm facing a certain April 15th deadline!).
The cumulative effect of various "watchers" ... are steadily shedding more light on the Bush regime's seizure of more state power against the individual. ... yet, but there is good reason to believe that maintaining the steady application of pressure and light on gov't and on the press will yield results. ... Maybe I am a fool. -- Gordon
I agree with Che Pasa, so excuse any duplication.
I can not understand the pansy attitude that to watch and chronicle is enough! The bastards in office have acted in a criminal manner that is almost unprecedented in the history of this country. Yet, we must not seek to put an everlasting stain on the presidency of Bush II and his name via impeachment?
Even if we only got impeachment and not conviction in the Senate, that would still be a fine message to send to future presidents. Or perhaps you think that Democrat presidents are never going to misuse the powers of an imperial presidency in the largest empire the world has ever seen? Do you think that the powers of the presidency will just return to those of 2000 simply because Bush II leaves office? (and what if he does not!)
Finally, do you really think it was wine and roses in this country during the Clinton administration? He never bombed any poor little group of men, women, and children without Congress declaring war? The justice system was just fine back in his administration --- no misconduct by prosecutors at all levels?
Gordon, both parties are the problem. A start would be for one of them to try to enforce the constitution. Just to try, so that it made a statement that the constitution was still a part of America.
Many here favor government coercion on a grand scale, they just want to be on the side doing the evil --- I reject that immoral stance. I hope you are not one more of them.
