  • Thanks glenn

Nice to get some good news.

  • Let's hope the tide is turning

And, EVERYBODY can probably sue the telecoms. One discovery process will lead to another.

I suspect an eventual compromise including legislated payout levels and venue, limiting liability.

  • you deserve credit Glenn

maybe not all but more than a fair share for this.

Some of us have to work or scrape by and can't pay attention to the details (and there are so many lies and details) as much as we would like but your efforts at hi-lighting such abuses (and others) allows us to focus what time we do have to fight back.

You've taken up where the fourth estate has dropped the ball (or is outright complicit)

  • Congratulations

Glenn, you have to realize you were a part of this and it was an impressive example of citizen activism driven by this blog, among others. I hope it's gratifying but I assume you won't count the chickens yet... If the cases are not resolved ex parte or in camera, terms I learned here and have passed along, then it will be interesting to see what the extent was of the lawbreaking as these cases trudge their way through the beautiful, relentless US court system. The noise machine can crank up the anti-tax messages all they want for now, their codpiece poster boy and his "war's romantic" bullshit won't wash with the fact that they're the first President and party to cut taxes in wartime in US history. Nice work on this telecom issue, congrats.

  • Mukasey and irony

I wonder if Mukasey's tearful fabrications made them pull back for a while. They may not have wanted the spotlight on that part of their rationale.

  • A real Boehner!

Yes, that's the ticket for sure! Let's forget all about that terrorism stuff, and get back to lowering taxes! And when it comes to economic policy, who better to lead us than John "Wet Start" McCain?

  • This is Devastating news for Dems

Right? The GOP (the party of inclusion) *own* economic issues! They're going to wipe the floor with those stupid hippies who want to raise taxes for health care and bridges and Veterans services.

  • Adding my voice to the chorus: congratulations.

It must feel nice to be the snowflake that makes the hesitant seesaw tilt in the right direction.

Another thing your efforts showed is the value of not giving up when the odds are bad.

  • Holding breath...

Not that I'm not glad. But we are dealing with only one source for this information, and its only been 24 hours. Given the inordinate amount of work Republicans and the Bush administration put into this, I'm not convinced they will simply surrender. But we'll see. Maybe they're looking at polls that show an overwhelmng absence of sympathy for telecoms...

  • Amazing

I believe FISA is the first time in my life I've seen citizens actually affect what appeared to be a predetermined outcome. I hope it doesn't take another 30 years for a repeat performance.

  • Yay!

  • I hope it is Good News just before show time....

I mean : I HOPE that the back stage pro-war, NSA ~ FISA snoopers, and the group the WHO,

tongues hanging out looking thirsty.... Remember the musical politician rock stars on Capital Hill...... 'um are worst. backstage, oh,

Don't just smack on more cheek rouge,

or share each others black mascara eyeliner,

or spend time in secret, private cubicles, and stall rooms,

    `

No paint each politico's toes a different acrylic color.

I'll not shine my boots yet. You be careful on the road. okay.

Don't take any wooden nickels. No sneeze in corrupt CEO's faces.

Don't shave your head, or wear dread lock corn-stalks to impress the DC media.

Stay in the Mayflower Hotel and watch 'The Wizard of Blogs' and watch the 3-stooges DVD?

If you want, hang out at the Firedoglake. Don't do any skinny dipping. Keep a good inner beltway reputation.

  • Kudos to Glenn for his reportage and advocacy on behalf of the American people, the 4th amendment, basic decency and privacy interests...

Far too early to take any victory laps, but I confess to having had very little hope that we'd ever get to this point. Certainly, much of the credit goes to Salon's finest contributor, Glenn Greenwald.

  • fire it up

The telecom lawsuits...ought to proceed now

I wish there were a way to jumpstart this.

Can someone tell me if I used the subjunctive mood correctly there?

  • Wow

That would be fantastic if that happens. I'm actually stunned.

  • I do sense a turning tide

A lot of it is due a bit of awakening of conscience among our favorite journalist types.

If I may quote AMC's reacion to the ABC story regarding torture meetings:

It does sound like the meetings took place even after photos from Abu Ghraib showed up, which doesn't change anything about the law, it just makes the meetings seem even more gross. Not that they weren't already pretty f'in' gross.

I suspect that the feeling of disgust that she expressed might be catching on. Time will tell.

  • Proof Positive

That evil cannot triumph when good people blog!

  • No Time To Rest

We've got to keep hammering. Glenn, you are right with it. How about that "Nutcrackin' Condi Rice? Mistress Condi and Abu Graib! Who would have imagined it?

  • Osama who?

Oh, my, not even the Republicans care if Osama is calling anymore.

Our telecoms will never cooperate with our government again. Or so they once said.

So, given a choice whether to protect national security or possibly pay more taxes – Republicans now say: screw National Security, don’t raise my taxes!

That conclusively demonstrates the dishonesty of their arguments all along – they never believed their own talking points.

  • So is Rockefeller another Lie-berman Democrat?

Some people are also claiming he was "noble"in apologizing to McCain. I think it just further evidence that he's really a cringing tower of jello who's completely under the Bushie's thumbs.

  • Let's hope the tide does not wash up onto the American shore too many big tuna and hammer head shark.

    Chow.

What I enjoy at U.T. etc., is we learn new words. LWM uses words like incubus and homunculus.

    I looked up moron.

Glenn. Don't let your feeling get bruised.

There is a elderly depressed sushi chef in DC.

He began a new pub and broiled moose tavern.

He would appreciate your new book and business.

You can order a sesame-seed, toasted-bun, with hollandaise sauce.

  • I Come to Bury Glenn, Not...

Just when I'm getting really comfortable with my folded arms and frowny-face, something like this happens and startles me into sitting up straight.

I'm still not ready to believe that the Darkness is beginning to lift, or that the Quest has any more than a fool's hope of succeeding. But as one of folly's most dedicated proponents, I must observe that unlike fool's gold, a fool's hope has value.

I cordially despise commenters who egregiously kiss ass and shamelessly suck up to the host, so I am in a quandary here when I am repeatedly compelled to praise Glenn's perspicacity, diligence, and pertinacity. (I'm also OK with his verbosity and predilection for Ironic Capitals.)

But what the hell-- I am encouraged by this news, and I concur with those who credit Glenn (and others) for dropping enough cherry bombs into the vents of the corporate media Death Star to permit the pushback. Much remains to be seen, but Glenn's carbide-tipped arguments have persuaded me that progress is possible.

    Or at least possibly possible...
