it does not put anyone's progressive values on display

This is certainly not a goal I aspire towards, and it seems to me that few here have any real desire to ensure that any particular sets of values are "displayed" or discouraged.

For what it is worth, I consider myself an altermondialista with libertarian socialist pretentions. I adore the often-witty anarchy of this comment area. I generally avoid it when it devolves into a pissing contest, though I do enjoy the ripostes of WT and others. I like bear-baiting the trolls when I feel like it, and not when I don't.

I limit my criticism of the tone here to (as a wise man once said) "a quick wink of the eye, and a 'man you must be joking.'" You choose to follow a different path of community scold. More power to you, I see it as an equalitarian option, but if you're unable to rally more people to your banner i wouldn't blame the people if you catch my meaning.

  • This is a game that ~ even if you like bee stings for your lymphoma condition. grunt. Wear bee veils instead of a burka.

I'm half naked and I'm not jumping in. Wasp. Hornets. Tex limo drivers. Alamo killer bees. LWM. bucky1, and W.T. do bite and scratch. SusanMc can sting.

oomex @ 9:07 sorta hit the finger nail thumb of the righty and lefty,

Off Topic. There are blueberry stains on my thumb, lips, and sticky keyboard.

Hume's Ghost @ a few pages back, and it is sure worth a slow read.... Thanks. You, in my opinion, are inviting more casual_observer's, and more rural-bumpkin sensible wisdoms.

Propagandee is the acting ``facilitator`` host too, as well as many other commenters who don't gibber, jabber, chit chat, and toss bile rancor and animosity each time they visit. grunt. HINT.

Oh, addicted to toxic spiels? Morbid. Maybe bucky1 ought to do some sit ups while he is buckling his pink flamingo in a Florida doll baby, four wheel buggy He rides high in the saddle. Someone needs to tell a bucking cowpoke his armpits need doll deodorant? Right? W.T. wears see through, orange mesh panties.

Oh, ah, I wondered off-focus. apologies. I meant to Thank Hume's Ghost for the Mark Twain War Prayer. It's packed with timeless wisdom. okay. I wanted just read Mark Twain's War Prayer (sorry for the repetition). I try to Not comment. I'm a damn failure. wee. whiner.

No, lose a reputation? It may be okay to aim to achieve a respectable one? hint. grunt. er.

O well. One day we can wear a bit of facial rouge, a bee veil, golf shoes, and be those delightful off-Broadway tap dancer! Maybe it will be a merit award in another karmic dimension? Who knows. O yea. I love the clustering together, linking arms together, and kicking a leg up high (wear undies) toward the sky. A mule-kick contest is silly. Everybody gets the shinny shin bruised.

    Oh, kiss and make up.

    Oh, kiss the boo boo.

"I generally avoid it when it devolves into a pissing contest, though I do enjoy the ripostes of WT and others. I like bear-baiting the trolls when I feel like it, and not when I don't."

Funny, this is exactly how I live my life. I piss on the street when I feel like it. I litter in my neighbor's yard, when the fancy strikes me. I swear invective at people when the mood strikes. It provides no model of behavior for anyone to emulate, and encourages only spite and revenge! And that's fantastic! God bless ME! But hey, I'm doing what I want to do and that's the most important thing about living in this world.

I haven't dug deeply into this current exchange between you and McArdle and Drezner but it does seem a stretch to say that since they supported the war initially, they are responsible for all bad acts that come after that. The US was founded, more or less, on genocide of the native Indian population (by the modern definition of that term), and today you are a citizen of this country. Can one say that you implicitly agree with that genocide, just because you haven't voluntarily given up your citizenship?

The attempted genocide of the Native American population occurred long before anyone alive right now could have a say in what was happening. No action taken by anyone in the present can provide aid to either the Native Americans, or the government waging murderous war upon them. All we can do is remember.

In contrast, the War in Iraq is going on right now. Therefore, we have the option to condone or condemn this war. Those who condone the war and who help push Americans to support the war are, themselves, aiding what is the inevitable result of aggressive war. They are aiding in the death of countless people who did nothing to us, by drumming up support so that the war may continue.

Giving up your citizenship isn't really a way to condemn anything, either. This is equivalent to "looking the other way", otherwise referred to as "enabling".

In my opinion, you need a thicker skin, that's all. Folks here have said things to and about me as combative as anything you've endured, yet I haven't felt the need to appeal to almighty heaven to save me from the injustice of it all. Defend yourself at all times isn't a bad strategy -- if you're capable of it.

Contrary to what the thin-skinned seem to believe, ad hominem arguments are natural when the content of an adversary's argument seems to consist largely of a mixture of ignorance and special pleading. And how do we know when that's the case? We don't, not with any certainty, but we're obliged by events to make our own judgments, are we not?

I'm surprised to find my name attached to something I didn't type.

You might wish to review who said what to whom. Not that I have any particular reputation to defend, but I do prefer to choose my battles rather than get sucked into them....
