The Good American
Mr. Yoo (why do strains of Steely Dan run through my brain??) beomes a hated figure (at least to some) whereas the stain runs much wider. If not Yoo, someone else, nay, anyone else, would have stepped in and filled the shoes. Would have been the Good American and done what was needed / expected. Yep, in days like this, when America is (in her own mind at least) the top doggie, anything goes. All options are on the table, and yhr heck with anyone, national or no, who disagrees. Remember, winners take all which is why you won't see a 21st century rogue's gallery of sullen men (and women -- lest we forget Condi) sitting in the dock at the Hague; ie, the 21st century's Nuremburg. Then everyone can go about their business and say, "Moi? No, no, no. I didn't know . . . "
