Glenn, I disagree
Oh, Mukasey's bilge is as false and awful as you so well describe/dissect it. But he isn't a replica of Gonzales, because Mukasey is very intelligent.
-
@Mona
But he isn't a replica of Gonzales, because Mukasey is very intelligent.
That's the scary part. Every time you think that it couldn't be worse, (Ashcroft followed by Gonzales) the Bush White House manages to pull it off.
Who knew that I'd be yearning for Ashcroft, who at least seemed to have a hint of honesty and concern for the Constitution.

Country Club Fredo
While I didn't expect much, Mukasey is exactly as you said. He is a more artful liar than fredo, but that is probably because of more experience.
It occurs to me that bush can have no less a lackey, or face nearly infinite investigations and prosecutions. The one position that cannot have independence or character is the bush AG.
I wonder what Schumer got for his endorsement. It better have been good, because he's dead to me.

nor is it necessary. truth (whatever that may be) rarely, if ever explains all coincidences, contradictions, loose strings, puzzles, etc.
Coincidences do happen, I've had a couple of quite strange ones happen to me in my life.. But it is extremely rare when they stack up like airliners waiting to land at a busy airport just after a heavy thunderstorm has passed through the area.
That is the level of coincidence multiplication we see with 9/11/2001, it stretches credulity to far beyond the breaking point to think that all of the "coincidences" were only that.
There is an old saying in the military, once is happenstance, twice is circumstance and three times is enemy action.
If the chance of two separate coincides happening in relation to a given event are each 1 in 100 then the chance that both coincidences will happen for the same event is 1 in 100*100 or 1 in 10,000. The more coincidences, the lower the probability of all those coincidences happening in relation to the same event.

Despite what you think
Those who helped plan, carry out and cover up the 911 attacks worked very hard to pull that caper off and they all deserve to be rewarded and protected by this administration and there is nothing any of us who believe otherwise can do about it.
What are you gonna do, vote for a democrat?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
-
another difference
Anyone who understood the nature of the Bush administration knew that Gonzo never really stopped being Bush's attorney. But Mukasey slid in under the cover of "bi-partisan support," starting with how his name came forward. It will be interesting to see how that meme interferes with reality.

In my Mind eye.....
The graduating Law student has suffered the grueling degree requirements.
What is visible for all the law faculty, DOD, DOJ, USDA, NSA, CIA, FBI, ETC.,
and little league ball team players, umpires, and coaches.... Yikes. A Sight.
A site for sad eyes. This:
`
Chopped at bloody ears, pink eye drainage, chin scars dripping razor's red tears,
nose bleeds, yuck, goo,
running with green snot, a freight stare, a fragile gaze, a near catatonic grin,
bloody hands, slit wrist, lame gate, self-inflicted abuse, other inflicted-abuse,
and a whimpering AG voice that request a Plea...
I joined the Bush Team. I volunteer to help.... huh.

Crying while Lying is an underestimated talent…
Clearly, with the help of DiFi and Schemer, the Bush corruption machine has come up with another reptilian gem.
Now if we could only get some enterprising members of the House to persuade him to do a command performance under oath.
Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash) was proceeding nicely back in July with this initiative:
http://impeachgonzales.org/firegonzales.php
Until this in August:
"After much thought and consideration, I believe this is the right time for my family and I to begin a new chapter in our lives," – Fredo
Could Inslee just change the name now?

Ouch!
So digby shot you down in flames and you drag your shit over here? Let it go.
-- Scientician
Good advice! It's gone. Maybe I just had to fire off a last crack.

Perhaps a change in terminology is in order
Maybe more people would get it if, instead of utilizing the common term "warrantless wiretap", we instead exclusively say "unwarranted wiretap". That's really what they are after, isn't it? They want the explicit right to eavesdrop even if the justification is entirely unwarranted e.g. fishing expiditions without probable cause, political oppo reasearch, etc.
In all cases where a warrant would be, well, warranted, they are already covered, and have been since FISA was first enacted. So, it only makes sense that they are fighting exclusively for the right to engage in unwarranted eavesdropping, right?

capitalizing on the American Gulags
Disgusting. Now that less than 1 in 100 Americans walk the streets as a free person, someone decided that there is a niche market to fill in the gulag. Greeting Cards for Prisoners.

I wonder if there is "Sorry for the judicial bigotry, I hope you like your cage and becoming instutionalized because you got caught with some pot."

Your DisHonor
The FISA passage you cited, Glenn, seems to place alot of Federal Judges in the DisHonorable catagory.
Several have given the Bush Cabal a pass when claiming State Secrets. Why haven't these stalwarts of the law ORDERED the government to produce proof ,in camera, of the nature of their objection?
I don't want my grandchildren to learn that the Bush Justice Department's only state secret was the crimes commited by the Bush administration. Covering up a crime is not a state secret, it is an impeachable offense.

Pull a string and the sweater unravels
One of the reasons congress and the media have been so slow to address Iraq, the surveillance state, torture, rendition and all of the other fun we have been having is that all roads lead back to 9/11 and nobody wants to touch it with a ten foot pole.
If we are afraid to get involved with 9/11 because of fear that it will bring out the the demolitionists, sincere or provocateurs, or we will be branded conspiracy buffs and marginalized, or simply because we are afraid what we might find then we will never make any real traction on any of the other issues.
It is easy to call congress and the media cowards when we look at these issues in isolation but we are scared shitless of 9/11 and our legislators and journalists are just following our lead.
I know the Bush administration isn't afraid of 9/11 and it is their trump card on every other issue.
I am scared shitless. I use FISA as my isolation tank. I can feel like I am doing something without really messing up my hair. One of these days I will grow tired of the smell of my own urine. One of these days.
Off to do more laundry.
