  • Totalitarians don't cry...

...Somebody inform Mukasey & Boehner that Totalitarians don't cry. Such sissy outburts are the stuff of men in a Democracy...not hardened Heroes firmly sequestered in masculine Totalitarian regimes.

Ironically, Bush/Cheney & their Republicans thralls have delivered America the Schwarzenegger-esque, muscle-bound, he-man Totalitarian regime they so ardently crave.

Yet they still cry like sissies!

Buckle up, men. You wanted centralized, one party, Big Brother government, and you got it.

So quit acting like Socialist hippie women, for the love of Pete.

  • Where Is The Story ?

Why are we reading this here (thanks Glenn) when this should be appearing in the greater news media? Or did I miss this story in the N.Y. Times, perhaps?

This report points out, more than ever, the complete hogwash that is the creation of the Bush Administration. When the Attorney General stands before the public and lies outright we have lost our direction as a country and a society.

  • Thanks, Glenn.

As usual, the George Bush way is to rely on the American people being too uninformed (who working two jobs and raising a family has time to keep up with matters of law?), too unschooled in the most elementary principles of logic (and only moreso as the emphasis on education becomes memorization rather than critical thinking), and too willing to watch Fox News (pre-digestion is just an easier way to swallow things)to realize that we all are watching theatre, not democratic government.

I can only say thank you to Glenn Greenwald for having the endurance to take on these endless layers of lies and hope that somebody in the MSM reads this article and distributes it or at least cribs from it!

  • Now, where were we?

Mukasey. Oh yes, well don't look to him for any help from gummint. At least not for you, the individual citizen. He was nominated for the federal bench by Reagan.

  • @ Quiet Type

I can only say thank you to Glenn Greenwald for having the endurance to take on these endless layers of lies and hope that somebody in the MSM reads this article and distributes it or at least cribs from it!

Dan Froomkin gets at a great deal of the portion that concerns the White House and Scott Horton covers some of it as it pertains to the DOJ at Harpers. Charlie Savage writes about the usurpation of executive power.

But I get out of media discussions the idea that it's mainstream editors and publishers who put the brakes on coverage of this, for the most part.

  • OBL and Bush

I suspect, that many years hence, we will find that OBL was actually and employee of the Republican Party. We will find pay stubs for checks that OBL cashed at the Bank of Bora Bora. It is rather curious that Bush seems to be protecting Bin Ladin. There were many opportunities to take him out, and they were always botched. The only winner of 9/11 was the Republican party, and this indicates that there is no desire to eliminate him. Imagine, what would Republican do with Bin Ladin gone? They will have to hatch another plot. Imagine, if laziness is the trademark of the Bush administration, how much work it would take to create another plot. It is much easier to have OBL live. His being alive is much more useful than his being dead.

  • @Glenn

Mukasey...We knew that there has been a call from someplace that was known to be a safe house in Afghanistan and we knew that it came to the United States. We didn't know precisely where it went.

Prior to our invasion of Afghanistan, how many houses were not "safe houses" for OBL and the Taliban. They were in control of most of the country. This is not just a lie, it is dumb lie from a stupid administration and one of its dumber flunkies. Unless he misspoke an meant to say Pakistan.

  • Pedinska

You may have this weather. I don't want it.

    ;->

Now back to our regular program.

  • Further proof we are winning this fight

They are upping the ante on making outlandish and refutable claims in support of their position. They are desperate. Democrats are not caving like before. Something is different, the only tool they have is to turn the fear dial up to 11, and once that fails, what then?

They really don't know how to handle this. They're doing what they've always done, and it isn't working.

I think we will see some whopper lies in the days to come. Hopefully they trip themselves up in their bullshit.

The House and Senate Judiciary committees should ask Mukasey to come testify about this new revelation about an Afghan safe house. Make him repeat these lies under oath. Not that he'll ever face any consequences for perjury, but worth doing anyway.

  • Powerful post!!

Damn, Glenn, you nailed his lying hide to the wall. How can this not be the top story on every newspaper/magazine/show in the country -- "Attorney General Lies to America"?

Thank you for pointing it out.

  • On the other hand, at least he didn't say he doesn't recall...

That seems to be the defining distinction between Mr. Mukasey and Mr. Gonzales.

  • 9/11...

The most under investigated total failure of the government in the history of government save the Pearl Harbor attack.

There were close to 300 WARNINGS from many areas before 9/11/2001!

    300 WARNINGS!!!

Ashcroft started flying government jets a week before.

Military leaders were advised to not fly that week.

No planes were dispatched and when sent up were sent the wrong direction.

Anti-aircraft batteries were deployed around the hotel that Bush stayed at for his Florida junket the day before. (a 'marked departure from common procedure')

9/11/2001 is the biggest lie that the government has foisted on us since who knows when.

The Bush administration and the republican party have total liability for the attack on 9/11 and they have skated out of the spotlight so very well.

It's disgusting and insane to now say that if Bush had the ability to spy on all of us, he could have 'prevented' the attacks.

That's pretty strong stuff coming from a government official who should know better. I think that the 9/11 attack was to Iraq like Pearl Harbor was to the Japanese.

Either that or Bin Laden is a genius and look at all the wreckage he has done to our laws, constitution and international image, not to mention the incredible amount of war profiteering that has gone on...

9/11 has been the best mind job in the history of the world!
