English roG
For at least a decade or so, there seems to have been a sort of unspoken agreement amongst all but the far-left to ignore or even accomnodate these kind of attacks!
I agree, it often seems the Democratic politicians despise their base.
The Petraeus, Betrayus, MoveOn flap being but one data point among many.

All rather predictable...
That the wingnuts would compare a site like Daily Kos, where anyone with an account can post an article, with a site like Instapunk where only a select few - chosen by the proprietor -may post articles.
But let's not forget this either:
http://instapundit.com/archives2/013838.php
Reynolds here approving cites a comment from Volokh when it seemed racist goons had been penning Ron Paul newsletters:
"I also can't imagine a responsible person permitting a publication under his name without vetting the editor/publisher sufficiently to keep out the sort of whackjobs who would publish stuff like this."
So, in the spirit of consistency, I can't imagine a responsible blogger allowing himself to be associated with these sorts of whackjobs. How damaging should this be to Reynolds' brand?

@ Aych
True, but it's also nice to know where you're going before you go there -- which is why, if at all possible, I prefer to link the real URL. (I hate winding up at Little Green Footballs or Free Republic without warning just because someone found a particularly juicy atrocity there. Ugh!)

The part of this post that I liked best
was when you refered to Pat Robertson as an "America hater". This is one of several popular phrases that we should be turning around and redirecting back from whence they came. Fighting for Freedom, Patriotism and Anti-American are also phrases that are thrown around by RWA's, demeaning their actual meaning in the process.
As I wrote here:
http://phd9.blogspot.com/2008/03/taking-back-patriotism.html
Taking back Patriotism!
"Patriotism" is a word that has suffered severe abuse of late. While it used to mean love of one's country, it is rapidly being twisted to mean love of the military and blind acceptance of the staus quo.
I happen to consider myself patriotic. I love my Country deeply. I particularly love the fact that I am free to point out when I think my Country is acting in an immoral manner and needs to change course.
People who don't understand this and instead use "patriotism" as a code word to enforce conformity sadden me.
Sorry, that's just the way I feel.
Along the same lines, I always like to point out that the oaths of office for Military personel and public officials cite "The Constitution of The United States" as the object of their loyalty. Therefore the people most deserving of the 'America-hater' or 'traitor' epithets that wingers are so fond of throwing around are the wingers themselves. They like to say that Freedom isn't Free. I like to say that Freedom will atrophy if not exercised regularly.

Mom's wisdom
as though if they are ignored, they just go away and do no harm.
That's nothing less than the wishful thinking of a bullied kid. I've seen it over and over again in playgrounds, during my youth and since.
I had the great good fortune to be raised by a single mom who taught me to ignore the bullies at first, and if the taunts didn't stop of their own, to use scorn before your fists.
Got me out of a lot of fights, that did. And started me on a wonderful career as a smartass blog commenter!

You're just playing their game worse than they do.
Dems always practice defensive politics and then resent losing at that game they're not as good at playing. Even this column with Glenns endless complaints about the right, all you're doing is playing into their hands. They don't care what you think and they're not shamed. That's why they're so good at this. But when the Dems stick our their tongues and pout "No Faaaaaiiirrr!!!! you do the same thiiiiiinnnng!!!! It comes across as weak. Why Dems chose to play this losing game is beyond me. Their skins are too thin, they take it too seriously and they worry too much about being liked. It's only noise if you pay attention to it.

out with the old
Glenn once again clearly and pointedly illustrates the manipulated reality machine. There is interesting fallout from the Obama speech on race and the whole Wright controversy in this regard. I have read many posts and heard much analysis about how the right wing will use this against Obama. There has been much wringing of hands by faux Clinton concern posters, and rubbing of hands in glee by far right Republicans just out from under their sheets. However there is one thing I haven’t heard mentioned very much; The several instances of very heated debate on this issue in places where you wouldn’t expect it, like Fox, where commentators have gone off script, and shown real emotion when discussing this issue. This has been unexpected to a certain extent and caused some interesting mold breaking moments. Perhaps the call to discussion by Obama will have some interesting unintended consequences not quite foreseen. This makes Clinton’s mention yesterday of Wright seem so off-putting and tone/moment deaf/oblivious. Obama has shown a way to break the frame. Can it be that there will be a true paradigm shift, not just in American, but world politics, or at least a new way to break the faux reality machine?

maniondl ....
people like Atrios have been chronicling this stuff for a few years now .. just look at the list of people on the Talking Head Sunday shows ... it's pretty damn ugly(not to mention Glenn's point yesrerday about Charlie Rose and the anti-war "voices" he had on).
Glenn:
You are right. The only was is to fight back. It goes back to the old schoolyard bully. The more you tried to ignore the schoolyard bully, the more he just attacked. The only time the bully would stop was when you fought back(because usually the bullys couldn't fight worth a damn .. they rarely could back up their bluster) ... You have to bloody the bully's face ... that's the only way to defeat them ... once you do that .. their rouse is done
