@ WT, Aych - a proposed solution to the tinyurl problem
Yes, William I have the same objection, I don't like to walk into a room if'n I don't know whats inside. The solution is simple though. Simply say something like: Link to SLIME magazine story on Hilary's cake baking skills: www.tinyurl.com/342234

Seriously?!
"But it's comical to see everyone ignore their own noise machines in the form of Keith "this is the special finger" Olbermann, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers (and the whole NPR/PBS gang), the NY Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, LA Times, et. ad nauseam.

Its not that they have a similar ent toward idealogy that makes them noise....
Our guys tell the truth!!!!!
Guess what your guys spread.

Seriously?! Part II
And those newspaper carry as much dren as any Faux Noise Network show.
They limit the debate to those who have already been proven wrong.

@Klooster

OK, so what exactly is your definition of "hate"? You're actually comparing someone like Bill Moyers to Rush Limbaugh - saying that they are on an equal plane when it comes to spewing hate?
A "noise machine" isn't the same thing as a "hate machine".

@pieceofcake
nothing - is more devastating for a "right-winger" than the thought he will not be taken serious!
Agreed. When some FOX-zombie floats some outrageous tripe, you don't need to argue the facts. You just assert the relevant facts, preferably sourcing them to some huge institution, and make fun of whatever they said, with small asides to making fun of them for saying it.
They are used to being talked to in this way and will quickly agree with you once you adopt this style of argumentation rather than trying to outline what's fallacious about their own argument.
And stupid ideas don't deserve any respect anyway, that's how we got into such a mess, treating seriously plans that any third-grader could riddle with holes.
The push for another Neocon War on Iran is such an instance. It would be a colossal cock-up, much worse than Iraq. Anyone treating the idea that we war with Iran seriously does not deserve your respect.
After all, they don't even have enough self-respect to think about what the TV tells them to say before they say it.

it's the difference -
in quality - remember when fox tried to be humorous?

Tiny You Are Hell
Aycharaych said,
Long URL's often run over into the ads on the right side of the screen and are unusable, you can't read or copy them.
www.tinyurl.com will fix that by making a very short URL from the long one, you can post the shortened URL and everyone can go and see the site you link to.
I hope this doesn't seem too strident.
1) Tinyurl is a private company that will one day go out of business and every "link" that has been obscured by their system will no longer operate.
2) The problem is with Salon's software not the with the internet.
3) I have never and will never click on a "tinyurl" and I believe that anyone who does is a complete idiot. (sorry to be so harsh)
4) Goatse and and tubgirl are now the least of your worries when you click on a "tinyurl."

Glenn...
perhaps you can elaborate on the underlying principles involved when hyperlinking to another blog. For example: The purpose of his blog is to promote political viewpoints that he agrees with in an effort to inform/convince/persuade an audience. By explicitly linking to such an essay, he has consciously decided that he wishes to share the message from that essay with his audience. This (like Reynolds argues) doesn't necessarily imply that he supports the message, but it does imply that he felt the information pertinent enough to share with his audience. However, the only way he could truly argue that he meant no endorsement is if his blog was strictly unopinionated. Which it is not. Therefore, for Reynolds to relay a message such as this without refutation is an implicit 'soft' endorsement.
I imagine it would be akin to me standing on a soapbox beside the sidewalk. Then blasting a sermon of Fred Phelps from a boombox atop my head to all the passerbys... You can't know for certain if i endorse the message, but any rational person will sufficiently convinced absent a refutation.

@ Klooster, The LA TIMES?
I can go with Olbermann - up to a point, Bill Maher is okay, but way off "base" on many issues, and Jon Stewart is great. But Bill Moyers (and the whole NPR/PBS gang) are way way too soft, and at times actually co-opted by oligarchy. The NY Times was and is part of the war machine, just like the Washington Post, and the execrable LA Times. The Boston Globe I don't read that much so have no opinion.
Besides the question is how to take on the pig man limbaugh and his fellow attack dogs. A well reasoned opinion piece is no antidote to demagoguery! Saying, "I disagree sir", is no counter to nazis and fascists. You need a shovel, and you need to smack them in the face with it.

By the way
Please DON'T go searching for goatse or tubgirl. SERIOUSLY.
You have been warned.

@ thelastnamechosen tinyurl
I agree that Salon needs to fix the wrap problem, but if tinyurl may go out of business, so may Salon, as they almost have in the past.
As far a I am concerned these posts are transitory and ephemeral anyway. If a tinyurl link stays up for a few months then I am happy. When was the last time anyone went back and read Glenn or anyone from 2 years ago?
And besides, you are wrong, I design web sites inter alia, and I can tell you that a link to a newspaper or blog is MUCH more transitory than a link to tinyurl. They often break.
Aside from that multi-line URL's on a post are ugly and distracting.
And finally, you can call Aych or anyone here an "idiot" if you like, but you will find few "idiots" here, and most certainly Aych is not one of them. But he can, and probably will, speak for himself.
