Great video and discussion
But Rose was REALLY pissing me off when he kept trying to put "we love America" words into his interviewee's mouths. He really was fishing for even a slight glimmer of a "thank you America!" from either guest and simply not getting it.
As for Jennings...someone should ask him what he thinks about his two "bad" phone conversations now at 5yrs and counting. His closing comment on the conversations was an understatement, "that not everyone will welcome us".
Duh. Do you think?
Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran! Just think how grateful THEY will be!

@William, Glenn
It is true, however. One glimpse of the female breast and the Villagers need a fainting couch. Thankfully we have John Ashcroft and his ilk to protect us and our tender sensibilities from such depravity while we enjoy the fireworks over Iraq.

@casual_observer
So instead of the sweet blueberry syrup of disruptive freedom and liberty, citizens of neighboring countries in the Middle East may be thinking something quite the opposite--"things may not be great, but let's never let what happened to those poor Iraqis happen to us".
Bush tried to sell the idea that he was pushing freedom and democracy into the heart of the Middle East. Instead, he simply clogged the toilet and flushed. With all the crap he has packed into that baby, naturally it backed up and overflowed all over the place (literally and figuratively).
The other people of the ME, rather than seeking more of same for them prefer to keep their bathrooms clean and tidy. Bush has succeeded in making the United States = Shit for the ME AND the rest of the world.
Mission Accomplished!

So?
Can't let ourselves get blown off course by fluctuating Iraqi public opinion!

I was struck by three things in the Charlie R. Interview
1. The opening music is disturbingly reminescent of the Seinfeld theme.
2. I didn't find Charlie Rose to be "angry". He seemed very Charlie Rose, and I thought he was relatively polite and professional.
3. I was struck, on a visceral level, how odd it is to see Arab people speaking about Iraq on a pundit show. I had never noticed how rare it is, until I saw two of them saying all of the things that make sense about this conflict (which clearly, it seems, may only be possible from an Arab viewpoint). Yes, of course, it is worth looking back at 91 and the damage we did to Iraq--and kept doing. But you never hear such things here, even from the mouths of the most fervent anti-war-riors...thanks for posting the vid.
PS. Ondolette. I haven't seen part two. Part one of the Frontline program did a fairly good job of showing that the mistake was the initial declaration of war in Iraq. I was especially struck by the candor of Armitage.

good luck asking Jennings what he thinks now because he's been dead since August 2005 from lung cancer.

I think you make a valid point. One of the things that bothered me during the run-up to, and the processing of the invasion was that critical Iraqi viewpoints tended to be espoused by Iraqi government apparatchiks. This, to me, seemed a naked a attempt to put anti-war positions in the mouths of Ba'athists in order to discredit others who might have similar viewpoints...

During the runup to the Iraq war..
One of the major networks had an "educational" program to teach the American public about the history and issues in the Middle East.
In every single instance, they left out Western meddling that lead to blowback..
The discussion of Iran for instance started with the 1979 US Embassy takeover and never mentioned the CIA managed overthrow of the democratically elected Mossadegh government in 1953.
Palestinian terrorist bombing against Israel was made much of while the Israeli terrorist bombing of the King David Hotel in 1946 was of course never mentioned.. Menachem Begin approved that terrorist act but I have never once heard him referred to as a terrorist leader.
The entire program was designed to make the non Jewish people of the Middle East appear to be irrationally anti-American.
Nothing has changed in the intervening five years, the entire thrust of the MSM is to make excuses for and cover the asses of the Western powers, most notably the US..

Where outsourcing would be a great good
I say we outsource our broadcast news. Invariably, the Brits and Germans (der Speigel) do a MUCH better job of journalism than any Americans do. I think I would have to add Al Jazeera to the mix too. Superb journalism.

If the media weren't "liberal"
Imagine what it would look like if the media weren't "liberal."
No need to imagine, just turn on Fox News.

tempus? I keep thinking about Glenn's book.
Any new book jacket suggestions for the Glenn Greenwald Hypocrite book?
GWB may write a scathing critical review. Maybe The High and Honorable P?
General David N. Petraeus in a photo doing a cannon ball from a Dive Palace.
A one and one/half belly flop swan dive. A Iraqi burned baby. A limbless grunt.
Weeping families from both sides of this conflagration hell-hole+Haliburton.
Show McCain + GWB thumb wrestling at the funerals of the upcoming Dead.
A poto of G.W.B. asking the slain's Mom and Dad if he can please touch scars.
Maybe the Wall Street profiteers can receive first a signed, pre-release edition?

Cranky.
Bush etc., are estranged from decency.
That black limo is a modern Death Wagon.

ahoyhoy @ rose
"It seems as though Charlie thinks he the smartest guy in any room and anything to the contrary is smoke and mirrors. His world view is perfect and needs no review."
I like Rose's show, probably because of the format. Black room, one light, plain table, two or three chairs, no commercials. Uninterrupted content like that is so rare. But that one light above the table isn't the only dim bulb in the room. The guy isn't super-sharp, his questions are inerminable, and he also interrupts the interviewee when the interviewee tries to get a few words in edgewise. But the format is great, and Rose deserves credit for that
