I am ashamed
For most of my life, I have been proud to be an American. I mean, who isn't proud of their own country, faults and all? I felt we have tremendous people, great opportunities for all, and were loved by (most of) the world.
During the Bush II years, I have felt a lot of things other than pride. I have felt angry, disgusted, sick to my stomach, despondant, depressed, etc. I have left the Republican party because of people like DeLay, Bush, Cheney, etc. However, I have not joined the Democratic party because they too disgust me with a lot of their spinelessness.
Anyway, I felt ashamed watching the Charlie Rose segment. Who in the hell do we as a country think we are when we say that OUR system of goverment and OUR "solutions" are the answer for you?!?! Who the hell are we to invade another country without provocation or threat by the other country? Who are we as a "Christian" country to behave in a most definitely NON-Christ-like manner?? (Yes, I knew all this prior to watching the clip but the clip really drove it home.)
Gawd... we need a new President, a new direction and need to get the hell out of Iraq and start rebuilding our standing with the rest of the world -- no matter WHAT it takes. I don't care how much crow we need as a nation to eat. I don't care how often we need to apologize. I don't care what secrets we need to uncover and who needs to try to defend themselves in a TRANSPARENT court.
None of the candidates really thrill me. I mean, THIS is the best we can do? But... McSame scares the bejesus out of me. I cannot take another 4 years of Bush rule. Hillary is a little bit better but her mud-slinging and Bosnia lie ruined her for me. Barack is not perfect by any stretch but, of the three, seems to me to be the one best suited for taking this country in a much-needed change of direction and may just have the gumption and moxie to start to make amends.
I reserve the right to continue to be ashamed.
Peace.

Some have been acutely observant of media propaganda for many decades
From Frank Zappa's 1973 Overnight Sensation
'I'm The Slime'
I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin' out
From your TV set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't got for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That's right, folks..
Don't touch that dial
Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin'room floor
I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

OT - Aych, I hope you see this...
I get emails from Color of Change. Here's one I just got today:
Dear Friends,
The so-called "war on drugs" has created a national disaster: 1 in 15 Black adults in America are now behind bars. It's not because they commit more crime but because of unfair sentencing rules that treat 5 grams of crack cocaine, the kind found in poor Black communities, the same as 500 grams of powder cocaine the kind found in White and wealthier communities.
These sentencing laws are destroying communities across the country and have done almost nothing to reduce the level of drug use and crime.
Senator Joe Biden is one of the original creators of these laws and is now trying to fix the problem. But some of his colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee are standing in the way. I've signed on with ColorOfChange.org to tell them to stand with Joe Biden and undo this disaster once and for all. Will you join me? It just takes a moment and you can start by clicking on the link below:

Thanks.
Biden's doing the work that needs done.

Ummm, Shooter?
Your analogies and metaphors leave much to be desired.
Brain tumors are often inoperable because of the danger involved and the risk of the cure being worse than the disease. The brain is not like any other organ. The surgery is invasive and can do more harm than good, leaving the patient a vegetable if not dead.

The latest technology, Gamma Knife, is non-invasive.
The first rule of medicine, "Primum non nocere," attributed to the Roman physician, Galen is, "First, do no harm."

@ Big Tuna
-My country is better than yours-
My God is better than your god.
God cannot be wrong. Ever.

I t sounds to me like Shooter...
Is arguing for higher taxes and conscription.
Since higher taxes are necessary and right and good to benefit Iraqi children, even higher taxes to benefit American kids must be good. Welcome aboard, Shooter! You are now full blown liberal warmonger and social engineer!

What is important to whom, shooter242?
Because I find it incomprehensible, that an opportunity for freedom and self rule is less important than power for the TV's.
As has been pointed out, there is no less freedom than under Saddam. Plus the infrastructure has been destroyed, so most nobody has power or clean water or even marginally basic health care.
The "opportunity for freedom and self-rule" is only important and desirable if it comes from the population in question. Imposing it from the outside, at gunpoint, is just asking for a native insurgency to start attacking the so-called liberators. Simple common sense.
Back to the original point. Taking your statements to their logical end, YOU are in favor of mass murder, ethnic cleansing, institutionalized torture, political and social repression, and the wholesale destruction of another country...for NO discernable reason whatsoever.
Again, YOU are monumentally fucked in the head to think that's acceptable.
