McCain's Helpers
You referred to Ana Marie Cox. Commenting on the rather testy exchange between the Saint and Elisabeth Bumiller of the NYT (this post the NYT smash at the Saint)on the candidate's plane AMC said that EB was not a regular. AMC, who is, swotted away EB's criticisms and questions by saying: Well OK? He's miffed at the NYT. And he has not had his fifth cup of Starbucks.
With that lame brained defence we next see AMC on Face the Nation.
These people have no shame, Glenn. They are beyond being embarrassed.

Precisely because McCain is a media perceived "expert"
his views and comments must be subject to a higher degree of scrutiny and tougher standards.
Could you imagine if Al Gore - global warming expert - falsely claimed that something caused global warming?
And, on the flip side of this expertise coin, I thought the media gave Bush and Reagan a pass because they are not policy wonks or detail oriented (plus Bush got a pass because of low expectations due to grammar and intellectual shortcomings).
So, a double standard is applied on both ends of this spectrum to benefit republicans.

Then you'll be satisfied either way
John 'Keating' McCain sounds better than Barack Hussein Obama. And better earned.
Because in the short term nothing much changes regardless of who you vote for or who gets elected, with respect to the things that concern you. If you are an endist, vote for McCain. If you're not an endist, you're a declinist, although you may not realize that yet.
“My message of decline is grim, but let us not despair. The declinists wake us up, so that we avoid decline; but the endists urge us to celebrate as we drift towards disaster. Those who urged us to invade Iraq are endists; I’m a declinist…. but only to revive my strategic optimism.”
Or, you could vote for Martin Gifford but I think he's Australian...

And an optimist.

Yamaha Mousse for president
Well, okay, that bit about the leathers was clever -- just manly motorcycle stuff, nothing to see here, folks. But how do you propose to explain the hood, the whip, and the optional ball gag? The American people may be a bit inattentive at times, but they hate being openly diddled.
(I'd give the same advice to McCain, but I'm nothing if not respectful.)

Defining McCain
WT sez:
McCain is way overdue for his comeuppance.
If so, the press will not do it. I fear that this is because the press as a whole is, sadly, UnSerious.
Someone else must do it (Obama), and then the press will cover it. CNN will call it Comeuppance Watch or some such, with John King analyzing comeuppance numbers and demographics in front of an animated map of the globe.
Obama is the only one who can do it, I think. He has the platform and media exposure, and more importantly, his race speech in Philidelphia demonstrates that he has both the vision and gravitas to Stick it to McCain, and stick it Good. I believe that Obama could rip off a speech like that one in Philidelphia every couple of weeks or so (he wrote that one himself)--on any number of topics--to great benefit and effect. One of them should strictly focus on McCain and McCain's Middle East policy. It would be devastating. Perhaps he's saving this for the general.
I don't mean to be an Obama-cultist here, that's not my intent. Simply repeating the oft-repeated at UT--that the press (generally) does not view its role as the originator, or source of such things as fact-checking, or policy analysis and evaluation. Media largely views its own role as one of presenting what has been uttered by someone, offset by what is uttered by a selected opponent to that someone.
They then walk away, unless it's something really juicy. Like stains.

ondelette. One more for geezers with bed sores in bed.
ondelette.
If you had a pet-name, Barnie, you'd still be esteemed and respected.
As W.T. ask 'usa' Well, O sorta. Why should warmongers be respected?
Bloody war proponents, and bank thief schemers, should ever be trusted? no.
As W.T. wonders.... a war-flop should or should not be respected in bed? huh.

I Am Biased Against Republicans
John McCain reinforces my mistrust of Republicans. That Party demands lock-step conformance to its dogma regardless of a candidate's actual beliefs or desires.
Such a demand reduces John McCain to nothing more than another puppet to be run by Republican hard-liners.

This is what I just sent Dan Abrams via this link
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22610959/
Your NBC political director Chuck Todd yesterday on Meet the Press said, “ You know, he's -- because of the age issue, he can't ever look like he's having a senior moment. So instead, he's better off going ahead and saying, you know, OK, so he misspoke. Even if he gets dinged on the experience stuff, "Oh, he says he's Mr. Experience. Doesn't he know the difference between this stuff?" He's got enough of that in the bank, at least with the media, that he can get away with it. I mean, the irony to this is had either Senator Clinton or Senator Obama misspoke like that, it'd have been on a running loop, and it would become a, a big problem for a couple of days for them.”
Will you please address why the media continues to excuse McCain for such a major error on understanding whom the enemies are in Iraq and the different sects in Muslim religion and continue to claim McCain has more expertise on foreign affairs and is the most deserving to be commander-in-chief. The coziness between McCain and the media has put him in a protection bubble that is denying the American people the truth about him and his policies. The media failed to do their job and made the tragic invasion of Iraq much easier to pull off.
If the media are not called to task on McCain, we may next have to address why the media brought us an attack on Iran and continued oppression of the Palestinian people. McCain and Lieberman were in the Middle East to support Israel and bring us more of the major problem Israeli government policies continue to pose for peace in the Middle East. That is why I am going to start calling McCain, Johnny McSame, and why the great majority of the media deserve the name, McShame, including Chuck Todd.
