Humans aren't wired that way, more's the pity.

I agree with you that government is an evil. but it is a necessary evil. Necessary in that if your group doesn't have it and the group over the next hill does, there is an excellent chance the group over the next hill will use their government to make war on your group and you will shortly become part of their group (possibly as a a slave or worse).

You might recall the opening sequence in "2001, A Space Odyssey".

In the most basic ways we haven't changed much since the jawbone of an ass was the latest thing in high tech weaponry.

Well, some organization is needed and desirable; I do not propose that we are individuals only, man is a social animal. In my path, we believe that ultimately all are one.

Consider that in some regions of Pakistan there has never been any real control by the state, the people rule themselves through the society that they have chosen. I am not a huge fan of Pakistan or many of the things done there, but I do think we should leave them alone to work out their own future.

You point is basically that to protect us from the 'other' we need a government. I felt that way for years myself, but is there any other method of defence against an invasion? After all, the price we are paying, both monetarily and in other ways, to our government is nearly as bad as slavery now. If I was to be caught with a small amount of weed or chemical that the government did not approve of --- better for me to be dead.

Is there another way to defend ourselves? Let us start by asking if the USA could defend itself without a standing military; would that be possible?

What do you think on that?

  • I think we should move backwards slowly.... both hands skyward up.... try more sensible manners to survive...

Wow. It just seems odd to want to just make a buck, and be a bit suicidal to a planet.

And consider going back to pencils, 3X5 index cards, and rotary phones with party lines.

  • "It's going to take a while..."

Daily Howler is covering the McCain myth and the 'elite dems' who are too stupid to have taken it on for the past decade.

Here is a quote from an article and the sample 'elite dem', Jim Jordan, that The Howler uses to point out their disgust of the stupidity:

Democratic operatives have prepared a sustained attack against what they call myths underlying Mr. McCain’s reputation for straight talk. “It’s going to take a while to tear that down,” said Jim Jordan, a consultant who will lead a Democratic Party advertising campaign to aid its nominee. Lamenting the Clinton-Obama fight, Mr. Jordan added, “That’s why it would be nice to get this over with as soon as possible.”

Apparently Mr. Jordan, after having waited ten years to "tear that down", intends to wait juuuust a little bit longer to "tear that down". He's going to wait until the Democrats "get this over with".

  • apologies... 'munch'.... munch grass.

I had been watching three beautiful deer munch grass. I can look over a holly bush from where I practice typing class and scrambled idea?

I look at a blueberry field and wooded mountains.

It would have seemed silly of me to invite deer inside.

Hay, you beautiful critters, how about some brown eggs?

I've got some sharp Whispering Brook all natural cheddar?

Those deer eat green grass and seemed to fair pretty well.

  • Kitt. Yas'all? Pass it on to Daily Howler etc. about todays secret blog conference call.

The Topic for Today's Serious debate will be...

    Don't forget.

    It's a secret.

  • An admission!

Bucky1...In my path, we believe that ultimately all are one.

Proof that he is the puppetmaster of all sockpuppets! How many in there with you!? Out with it!

  • I'm a famous Sock-Puppet!

    Wow!

Here I am simply lurking and reading and enjoying the show and what do I see? Two, yes two, mentions of my name as being a sock puppet.

    To Bucky:

Piss off you gint! I'm me and not anyone else. While I'd be honored to have the research skills exhibited by LWM and his many postings of interesting and plain cool links, alas when I tumble into the shit pile of google searches I only come out smelling bad.

    To LWM:

Please don't encourage Bucky1 by throwing my handle into the mix! I might want to have my own fun with the deluded Buckster, but if he thinks I am you and you are me, where does that leave me?

    Damn I am cornfused ...

    To Mooser:

Thanks for the laughs as of late. Haven't had too much to chuckle about for a while. I certainly needed it ...

    Peace out

    Not LWM

  • Last comment. out/over. There's many chores.... morels are popping up and out of the Earth yet?

    It's about mushroom season.

The morel is a great edible fungus,

brown and oval, and sought this time of year.

Lame or not, here I come. Here in our locale Nature,

The woods provides Morchel 'fungus', a sub-species,

Ascomycotina. In the Next post Glenn may ask, "Who's the most irritating UT letter writer?"

    Or, "Who wants to be buried next to LBJ? R.N., GWB, K.R., H.K., J. C., D.C., G.G., W.T., B1"...

    ~ Oh ~

Happy and early Chanukah greeting to all. Life is not fair? When my children were teens a colorful condom was found in the washing machine. Guess he was blamed for it? I blamed W.T..

  • KB4Hire.

I wish you were my next door neighbor.

Some here will insist they don't use 'Krazy Glue'...

Some letter writers, Not Yours, have a mortician air...

  • Family therapy?

    Anonymust-

thanks for the response. It's probably just a coincidnce, but it does appear that after my rant, the discussion became at least somewhat more topical.

There is a concept in family therapy known as the inadvertent intervention- once, in training, I was working with a toally chaotic, out of control family, and lost my own cool- screamed "will all of you SHUT UP FOR ONE SECOND???" They all stared at me in stunned silence, then after a moment th father said "are we really that bad?". I said "you're not bad people, but you need to learn how to liten to each other- this isn't working!" From that point, we actually started working on the concept of boundaries, taking turns spaeking and listening, disagreeing with an idea without attacking the person, etc., etc. Sometimes we do the right thing for the wreong reason..

As I think about it, therewas some discussion about the issue of geting people to face reality when its not waht they want it to be. All I can say is that its difficult if the person is aware that its not working- if they are unaware, its impossible...
