Derbig
You aren't an LWM sock puppet.
I am.
Yes, it's true, I'm just a figment of LWMs feverish imagination, used as a means of stirring up the blog when things are slow.
I kind of suspect that bucky1 and Chris Sinnard are LWM sock puppets too..
But then my right hand and left hand don't know the other even exists, much less what they are doing.
LWM is a veritable Shari Lewis, eh?

@patg
i was not questioning yours or anyone's ID. i just thought the pissing match about who's who had lost it's value.
heck, i like your posts (and your handle)...
-- patg
And you were perfectly sanguine with the accusations of my basic dishonesty. Thanks for that.
And man, if I'm standing on the dignity of my honesty I'm in trouble. A fall can't be far behind!
I'm glad you like my posts, I'll tell LWM.

I've been watching the hate spilled here today by people who are at least nominally on similar, if not the same, sides.
It seems most indicative of America, and indeed even humanity, as a whole.
If you think Americans in general are capable of deep self reflection then I would love to hear from you how to go about inducing it in them because I haven't figured it out in nearly two decades of trying.
-- Aycharaych
It has been like that in Glenn's comments area for a long time, if the thread goes completely anti-war rather than just anti-Republican war.
The idea of dismantling the empire and the killing machine that is bleeding us dry as well as killing innocents around the world in not welcomed by some in these parts. In fact, I was long ago attacked at length by the local little cabal for being a 'isolationist' because I am for non-intervention in other's affairs. I was attacked as a 'pacifist' even. I am not even totally sure what that means to the attackers, but I know some here want to reserve the right to have 'humanitarian missions' that will look like invasions to the poor bastards that are on the receiving end.
Hate? Yes, a few here hate the idea of weakening the state in any manner. They feel they are the wizard to hold the one ring and that it will not corrupt them as it has done to so many others. Golem where are you?

derbig moose
i am sorry i used you in the same sentence as lwm...

When I get engrossed in these threads, ...
it's usually because I find the substantive content engrossing, or I've found a particularly entertaining character to bat around. All this other squabbling over old rivalries is more worthless than a daytime soap opera, and it probably makes outside observers think we're kind of pathetic. But whatever. -- DCLaw1
Hmmm. I guess it is each to his own, eh?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Have Mercy! Have Mercy! I've lost my existence, and gotten another wife! What more do you want of me? What am I, chopped liver? Wait, does somebody have a Ritz?
Okay, this is over. Thanks buckyl, I'm sure we'll be friends forever. Closer, and you know what they say about keeping your friends close...

Good TV for you all
Someone recommended the PBS documentary tonight, I think they keep their stuff on line and I will watch it later. Meanwhile, here is something I have seen and it is most excellent.
It's on the CBC the Communist, sorry, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Seeing Anne Coulter claim that Canada fought in Vietnam is a real snort, watching the host, gently, correct her - priceless.
As you will see the CBC uses the L word, it will be interesting to see if PBS does the same. My impression is that PBS is a shadow of itself post the purge.
THE LIES THAT LED TO WAR
Since the US-led invasion four years ago, the fifth estate has covered Iraq and the war on terror from virtually every angle--the military, media, intelligence, politics--revealing aspects of the story that you didn't find anywhere else. Now, as the White House warns about the latest threat in the region, this time from Iran, it's worthwhile looking back to examine the deception, suspect intelligence, even lies, that convinced the world of the rightness of targeting Saddam Hussein.

Derbig ask bucky1, "who are you??
A renouncer of common sense and social skills.
A dental orthodontist who loves Kitt and others.
Kitt is a many ribbons, and a beribboned bail man.
Kitt is a fair bondsmen who aims to serve the truth.

He's the Top!
GG:
No Democrat -- or any other human being -- could ever possibly claim to know more about foreign policy than John McCain.
:-) You are so funny! Thanks, Glenn, and also to the folks who put pressure on Kurtz through their questions. If the MSM won't do their job, at least they're getting called on it, now.

WT
How was it done in your case;
I'm very much the outsider, I've never really fit anywhere and my point of view is seriously warped according to the standards of the average American.
My family loves me but they think I'm exceedingly strange and they almost never listen to what I have to say. Aside from my brother, with whom I agree on most things anyway, I can't think of a single person IRL who is willing to talk to me about anything more controversial than the weather.
I can't imagine why.. ;-)

cbc
one of the great things about living near canada is cbc tv (hockey night in canada) & radio. they show the canadian assembly actually arguing, and sometimes throwing shit. it may be time to cross the border if repugs have their way with this election.

The criminology of UT
Paul Rosenberg's sister was wise in the ways of jurisprudence. As she put it:
There are only two crimes: Presence, which is a misdemeanor, and Existence, which is a felony.
It would be hard to improve on that.

The idea of dismantling the empire and the killing machine that is bleeding us dry as well as killing innocents around the world in not welcomed by some in these parts.
buckyl
You know buckyl, it may sound funny, but you don't have to worry that much. How are they gonna keep it going? No matter how high-tech (and now that I think about it, empires actually lasted longer, long ago) things get, there are certain basic requirements for a policy of imperial bent.
One of them is a constant supply of young men, primed to do the dirty-work of Empire. And our work is, of course dirtier than ever. Although, wow, the British could kill softly with economic disruption, which is fatal to traditional cultures.
The Army Bush has now is almost entirely a "captive" army, trapped by the terms of their enlistments and threatened with stop-loss or worse.
On the quality of the latest recruits to the cause, well you can draw your own conclusions.
And that is only one of the manifold ways in which this effort is not sustainable.
Jesus, I feel for those poor bastards: One thing I knew at the beginning of the war was that those men would never, if it could be prevented, come home able to tell the tale of what happened.
Of course, there is the question of how much dust will be raised in the collapse, but then there was a problem with that on 9-11, too, if you remember.
Okay Bucky, there's some vintage Mooser. If it's just like LWM's posts, well I'm sorry, Iguess you'll have to put up with us both.
