DCLaw1...
You get good irked. Ya's remind me of a serious public trial. Someone shoplifted government pencils, notepads, and pens.
Glenn was falsely accused.
You allege DC is crooked.
`
At the trial of the century,
twelve jurors hate both attorneys. You and Glenn.
The deliberation last 40-years and ends with a mistrial.

Why don't you tell that to everyone's pal, long long long time UT poster LWM? You know how things work around here
You know what? Actually, I don't. With very few exceptions, I look strictly at the actual content of the comments, and don't concern myself with who has posted them, or what I think of the reputations of certain commenters.
I'm familiar with a few of the regular voices here. WT, Celery/Bebop, LWM, Bucky, Mona, Arne, and a few others. I guess I have a general sense of what some people tend to say - their overall philosophies and tones. I am definitely aware of the libertarian/anti-libertarian pissing matches, I do what I can to avoid them, and I don't care about the stupid dynamics between certain regular commenters, their history, and all that nonsense. I just don't have time for it.
When I get engrossed in these threads, it's usually because I find the substantive content engrossing, or I've found a particularly entertaining character to bat around. All this other squabbling over old rivalries is more worthless than a daytime soap opera, and it probably makes outside observers think we're kind of pathetic. But whatever.
I've already spent too much time on this.

DrDave...
For the most part, everyone here does post under just one screen name.
There are some exceptions. Bebop-o uses different names depending on where he is posting from... lately, he hasn't been able to log in as bebop-o, just Good Celery!
L.W.M. does use more than one screen name, but they are hardly sock puppets, since they shriek with irony, and the whole intention of having a sock puppet is to fool everyone. L.W.M. doesn't even try to do that. He's like Lily Tomlin, only male; he has lots of voices.
Unfortunately, bucky and omooex are irony-challenged and attribute many more screen names to L.W.M. than are his. And now they're doing the same for everyone else. However, the voices, if one reads long enough are distinct (including yours). At least half of more of the ones they say are his are not. And some of those posters would have taken them to task if they'd been around.
As for posting using someone else's name... it cannot be done. Salon's software requires a unique screen name for each registrant. No duplications allowed.
There are no additional "cool" points for using sock puppets. In any case, I sympathize with your frustration... which is the only reason I'm posting this comment.

That cracked me up.

Perhaps it can't be done, but....
If you think Americans in general are capable of deep self reflection then I would love to hear from you how to go about inducing it in them because I haven't figured it out in nearly two decades of trying. -- Aycharaych
How was it done in your case; how in GC!'s? My point, I guess, is that wisdom comes somehow to ordinary mortals, no less now than in any age you can name.
With all due respect to believers, the people who wrote The Sermon on the Mount, The Bhagavad Gita -- which was quoted earlier today in another context -- or The Tao Te Ching were mortals just like us. How was their wisdom fashioned? More to the point, if we're looking for it today, where will we find it, how will we recognize it -- and once found, how might we teach it to others?
In my opinion, the wisdom quotient is self-propagating, even though the process is often hidden from us. The best advice I can offer is to keep your eyes open, and above all, keep the faith.

derbig mooser @6;07
i was not questioning yours or anyone's ID. i just thought the pissing match about who's who had lost it's value.
heck, i like your posts (and your handle)...

Do your homework dude...
"Unfortunately, bucky and omooex are irony-challenged and attribute many more screen names to L.W.M. than are his."
I made a joke about it and commented sardonically about what a waste of time it would be to suspect everyone of having a sockpuppet. I stayed the hell out of this stupid conversation. You should have done likewise.

@ Anonymust
Thank You. I am perfectly willing to be batted around for my own ideas, I'm not responsible for LWM's.
And now you explain the extent of LWM's transgressions ("his sock-puppets shriek with irony") I have a better grasp of the seriousness of Buckyl's et al accusations. Thanks.

it's the whole football mentality, and i like the college game, that pisses me off regarding war talk.
we won that one...victory is at hand...surrender is not an option.
it's crap and has nothing to do with the real costs, in life and treasure.

Lordy, don't hold your breath about Henry-the-K seeing the light of day; he's still trying to tell us how successful he was at the Paris Peace Talks during the 1970s. Oy!
I take some comfort that some people up there in the higher reaches of worldly wisdom are thinking about our plight in Iraq, even if they're Brits of influence who waited until they attained a comfy sinecure before holding forth in those pear-shaped tones you like so much.
On a more popular level of media consumption though, I recently watched a bit of the BBC's "MI-5," a series on the derring-do of Brit intelligence services. I like to watch Brit drama because the acting and production values tend to be higher than American network stuff (sorry, this is true).
Anyway, the depiction of American CIA types in these shows is very unflattering - very "ugly American."
Does it matter what the Brits think?
I really couldn't say.
