Obama must get on MTP and remind Russert to his face that the people, not the media, have the power
I will not allow the MSM to elect another Republican!!
Obama is a change agent. He needs to carry the message that the voters control the future, and that people sick of media lies need to vote!
Once that message is clearly sounded on MTP, maybe the big shot corporate sponsors of MTP, and audiences around the country will take notice. I think the only way to change the system is to smash it, and that can only happen with heating up the tension between the MSM and change agents like Obama.
Problems: 1) who is the typical audience of MTP? 2) How many people are really sick of Russert being so pro-McCain?
Obama is tapping into the anger of everyday people, but with a message of hope and power, "I can help us work together", rather than the typical right-wing way of tapping into anger that stops half-way: "it's THEIR fault your life sucks/will suck/has sucked".
BHO's campaign message should be: "The lobbyists don't have the power; the media don't have the power; YOU the voters, have the power."

mcjoan reports on another bit of McCain neglect
McCain is currently campaigning illegally.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/24/124912/869/871/483223
He's opted into the campaign finance system, and can't opt out because there's no FEC to grant him permission to do so. You'd think this would be worth a mention in campaign finance articles about McCain's campaign, but, no.
In a TIME Swampland piece today, it goes unmentioned, and in a Michael Cooper (McC BBQ) story in the NYT last week, this was also not raised in an article about McCain's fundraising plans.

@2-cent
Obama in his Wright speech, gave his two cents about media failings. Do you wonder why the M$M has remained silent on his valid criticism?
-
A Good 2-cent Worth
My hope for America is that the conventional media is passe.
With more people turning to the internet for real news and bypassing the pretty-pretty people of cable news, perhaps this will be the first national election of my lifetime that isn't defined by media manipulation.
But, alas, I fear that too many people still gravitate toward their biases rather than the facts.

Does Kurtz even know what McCain's "experience" is?
And would he be able to tell us? He didn't reveal any such knowledge in the reply posted upthread.
Can experience be measured as years in the Senate spent lying---er, talking about something? That's all I see. No cabinet experience, for example, which might actually count. No higher military experience than squadron commander---probably more time spent in a cell than in uniform.
Has he written a white paper detailing how our military could be more successful? Worked at a think tank?
Helped lead an invasion?
Reformed a branch of our military?
Gone toe-to-toe with the Russians?
Does he have good contacts in various governments around the globe?
Does he have an intelligence or high-tech background, which might suit him for the 21st century? Or at least nukes?
Counterintelligence/counterterrorist experience?
Didn't think so.

Keep tugging
Glenn,
I would like to offer another perspective. Senator McCain's single-minded and simplistic view of the war (among everything else) and his unwavering belief in the infallibility of the US and inalienable status as the world's superpower are the result of a cognitive retardation and faltering ability to keep up with the world.
Versus the rest of the world this country has no real concept of culture and how it defines the belief system, values, attitudes and behavior of a given group, at the exclusion of all else. That culture passes down from generation to generation and informs everything a group does from the way they dress to what they eat to the rules that govern them. This country is not exactly steeped in culture and so the lack of recognition and understanding between Shiite and Sunni or describing everyone as Al Qaeda is not really surprising. Of course this doesn't make it right it only serves to explain why this administration and others were, and to some extent remain, clueless. McCain being a perfect example of someone who lacks both the interest and ability to recognize cultural differences, he just sees things in broad strokes; us versus them and his slowing acumen doesn’t allow him to think otherwise.
The press, of course, is completely aware of McCain’s vulnerability and out of deference and admiration for him they have been covering for him, much like they covered for Reagan. When the press called Reagan on his gaffes they got heat from the public for "picking on him" so they stopped and let him off easy. They know a few tugs in the right places and it will all unravel for McCain. And, I would suggest that his recent slips have caused even the media to question how severely he is out of touch and the potential that they could cover for him for the next four years, were he elected. I would suggest the few mentions, by the media, of his slips might even be trial balloons, because I’m not sure, at this point, they even know what to do.
Obama just needs to keep tugging.

@jayackroid
Yes, late in the chat session I asked Howie a more polite question on this issue. I asked how much it would be reported if Clinton or Obama had exceeded the limit while holding a letter from the chair of the FEC that they could not do so. I asked him why McCain isn't being called on it daily. I wish I had submitted that question earlier and without my snarky one. It would have been interesting to see how he justified the lack of coverage on this issue. Don't doubt for a minute that the R's would be calling for an immediate cease to all campaign activity by Obama or Clinton if they were in the same situation.
