Lessons not learned

The pile of "mea culpas" from war advocates demonstrates how little has changed in their thinking.

Check out Sr. Settembrini... When In Roma?

from Concierge.com:

Settembrini

Rome

A stylish new arrival, Settembrini proves that chic design can go hand in hand with friendly service, good food, and reasonable prices. Not far from the media hub of Piazza Mazzini (state broadcaster RAI has its offices nearby), this multipurpose diner morphs throughout the day: late-morning panino bar to smart buffet lunch stop, afternoon tearoom to early-evening wine bar to full-on tête-à-tête restaurant. Sardinian chef Marco Poddi insists on only the freshest, best-quality ingredients, from just-landed Puglian fish to Gerardo di Nola pasta. Dishes like the marinated beef fillet with couscous and steamed vegetables show him at his creative best. The ever-changing wine list, strong on carefully selected small Italian wineries, is a real treasure.

Open Mondays through Saturdays 1 to 3 pm and 8 to 11 pm, September through July.

If you're going to misquote someone, Bucky

...at least have the decency to use square brackets, since they denote "your" words, and not the other person's. Your use of parentheses made your "quote" look as if that was what I had typed, when I, in fact, did not.

You should have typed:

Thanks, Kitt [for defending murder].

Gordon

Oh, I have no disagreements with Settembrini, Gordon. In fact, I like that voice so well, it reminds me of another voice I've come to look forward to.

Yes, bystander, my friend

one who similarly morphs throughout the day, cuts and pastes,...

The small exchange you quote shows you can Google a bit; but if you read history books you will find that Goering was talking about getting any country into a war in the quote you were first talking about.

Search engines on the internet are tools. Many people use those tools for many fine purposes. Only a person who is being obnoxious and rude would scoff at a person for using the tool of search engines.

I've read and continue to read history books. But, of course, that was just another rude and uncalled for insult from you. Nonetheless, no one needs a history book in the case of finding the context of the Goering quote. By the way, where did you paste the quote from, a search engine?

The link below tells the back story of the quote. I found it using a search engine, a fact that doesn't make the information laughable or worthy of your contempt.
