McCain's repeated "slips of the tongue" on Iran and al-Qaida

Joe Klein and the rest of the media excuse McCain's false statements about Iran as a "slip of the tongue" -- even though he repeated it three times.

The letters thread is now closed.

There is one other possibility...

... that McCain is BOTH 1) agitating for another Neocon War by intentionally lumping all Arabs/Persians/Muslims together and 2) completely pig-ignorant of all Middle Eastern culture. This was the case with Bush:

[Peter] Galbraith reports that the three of them spent some time explaining to Bush that there are two different sects in Islam--to which the President allegedly responded, “I thought the Iraqis were Muslims!”

In fact, it's gotta be hard to conscionably promote 1) without being 2).

Because They Love Him

The media seems to be more right-winged everyday.

Obama is supposedly tied to the anchor of his former minister's polemics but McCain isn't even held to account for what is either ignorance or an attempt to "Feith" Iran. (To Feith is to create a false case for pre-emptive invasion.)

How egregious do McCain's "misstatements" have to be before the media start to question his fitness for office?

Um, talk about "slips of the tounge"

Unless my vocabulary is limited (which is possible), I think you meant "tongue" in the title - I've never heard of a "tounge". :) Maybe this is a new word that was just now made up - "tounge: a falsity spewed by a presidential candidate."

Why not do a piece showcasing all right wing propaganda?

Go from columnist to columnist, radio personality to radio personality. Show the things that were the most false and repeated the most often by "Journalists".

Then contact them directly and ask how any rational person wouldn't find their actions to be consistent with state level Pravda propaganda, and not journalism.

Make sure you call each one for comment. Then you can document how their denials are just effectively more propaganda.

I think you need to call the journalists out more than the politicians. So called "Journalists" are solely responsible for the dishonest debates we have. If they reported the truth behind legislative debates, Republicans wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

No one likes being proven a fool. So why not create a daily segment on the worst lie and call that journalist out? It won't take you but, 10 minutes if you keep it brief.

But, someone has to light a fire under these liars and propagandists telling them we have had enough. I would generally stay away from the Limbaugh types and annihilate those that actually think they practice journalism.

The ones that are too stupid to realize they espouse propaganda are the ones to go after. The ones that know they lie will never change.

But, the ones that think they are journalists hate honest criticism. So start giving it to them.

Nothing gets fixed until we have honest debate. John Stewart made the point on Crossfire and got the show canceled. You need to do the same kind of work. Otherwise, nothing changes.

Honest politicians cannot win a rigged debate.

Maybe he's not delusional

Maybe McCain isn't delusional like I've long thought, but just doesn't know much about Iraq and Iran. Maybe he's been so long in the beltway bubble that he really didn't realize that the massive protection needed for his visit to the market last year wasn't normal for outdoor markets. Anyway, don't forget the biggest problems with his statements: he forgot to use the phrase "radical Islamic extremists". It's a bit like Biden's comment on Guiliani using simple sentences that included a noun, a verb, and 911. Substitute "radical Islamic extremists" for "911", and that's McCain.

Why is this the least bit surprising anymore?

I suppose it should be reported, but it's clear the war on terrorism is a complete sham full of disinfo, and that the media are happy to go along with all the lies.

Ultimately it boils down to the ugly truth that people just don't want to admit-- 9/11 was an inside job and we are ruled by evil evil people.

Another "other" Possibility

Just as Bush and the proponents of war created a false link between Saddam and the Sept. 11th attacks, this could be another deliberate linking of Iran to Al Qaeda to continue to agitate for military action against Iran.

Hey...it worked before

Glenn, Glenn, what's the problem?

The MSM has being doing this for 7+ years to the criminals in the White House why should they break form now and actually report the truth?

Why the house of cards might come down.

When a "brain fart" becomes policy...

It must be that he just had an understandable "brain fart" -- an innocuous case of "misspeaking" -- even though it happened three times in a row in a matter of a couple of days.

Cheney has been (falsely) connecting Saddam with 9/11 and Al Qaeda for five years now. That’s not a “brain fart” that’s our foreign policy.

The invasion of Iraq was just a brain fart?

Well, that and the oil reserves

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 03:03 PM

It may also be intentional conflation

Yes, it makes no sense at all. Neocons foam about Iran supporting "terra," just because they think chaos and turmoil is good for Iran. But why should Iran support any turmoil in Iran, when they are closely tied with the Shiite-dominated government? We saw how Ahmadinejad was feted by the Iraqis: they literally rolled out the red carpet for him, and he could safely travel anywhere.

That's the essential problem with the Neocons right now. They got rid of Saddam, but in the process they ended up making Iran the major power in the Gulf. That's why they can't let us leave Iraq. They just don't know how to square that circle. So they only know their one trick: expand the war into Iran. If they can't turn Iran (back) into a client state, at least they hope they can turn it into a bloody failed state like Iraq.

But how to start that war? Hmmm... how about just repeating Iran and al-Qaeda, Iran and al-Qaeda, over and over. Doesn't matter if it doesn't make any sense, as long as it cements the two entities together in the heads of enough Americans. It worked for the Iraq war ("Saddam and al-Qaeda, Saddam and al-Qaeda")!

I hope people are too fed up with pointless war and bloodshed by this time, however. I am crossing my fingers and praying that that trick won't work again.

McCain Slips On His Own Tongue

McCain is George W. Bush's "crazy uncle!" They are cut from the same cloth ... they're both ignorant of facts and history; they both make shit up to support their "beliefs;" neither one wants to admit error, unless it somehow accrues to their benefit; they both surround themselves with sycophants who are at least as misinformed and crazy as they are; and neither one of them has a clue as to the magnitude of their universal ineptitude.
