Time magazine invents facts to claim that Americans support Bush's domestic spying abuses

Time publishes an article that has more demonstrable factual falsehoods than it has paragraphs.

The letters thread is now closed.

Seixon

The media has written about all these things constantly, in waves, and the public by and large has not really cared at all about it.

As GG pointed out, saying it does not make it true. And the facts say otherwise.

You're just parroting Times propaganda, neocon. You need to inform your employers that you're in need of remedial propaganda training.

Rules for Spying editorial unattributed in WashPost

Check this out, obviously a administration shill. When I complained to ombudsmans she had the gall to say it's normal for editorials to be printed without attribution! This is nuts, I'm no conspiracy nut but I am beginning to believe that our MS media owned by republicans no longer gives us the straight up at all. Bad enough they just regurgitate politicians words without giving us the facts that support or deny those words. Now they allow editorials in support of an out of control administration without attribution. SAD.

Does anyone still think TIME is not doing this on purpose?

I wonder when we all can just go ahead and admit REALITY.

It is quite obvious after this happens time and time gain that TIME is INTENTIONALLY LYING.

It realy isn't that hard to figure out. They are intentionally lying to their readerrs. They are a propaganda outlet.

These are not errors, or misteps. They are doing this on purpose.

The real question is who at Time is making the decsion to LIE INTENTIONALLY to the American public.

FOX already went to court to defend their right to lie to the American public. TIME is just taking advantage of the ruling.

Can we please quit playing this game that we are not sure they are intentionaly lying to the American public?

Oh Brother

Glenn,we want it to be true.We wish that it was true.Oh man,it should be true. But Glenn, nobody cares!!! Oh I'm sorry, the trial lawyers care....big time. Can we stop kidding ourselves and live in the real world. There are plenty of real things to focus on. Things that real people care about and buy into. When you run with this you sound like a whack-job.Right or wrong, nobody thinks big brother is listening in on our conversations with grandma. And Time Magazine? Come on get a grip.

Massimo Calabresi?

99.9% of Americans have never heard of Massimo Calabresi. Unlike Mr. Calabresi, none of the 99.9% would base an argument on an assumption about what he thinks. Never the twain shall meet.

Thanks for the heads up on the Time article

Glenn, thanks for posting this piece about the Time article. It really burns me up when I see articles like Calabresi's. I sent the following to the Time editor:

I'd like to know where Mr. Calabresi is getting his "facts" about Americans not caring about the Bush Administration's warrantless spying and other abuses because it's utter hogwash. We care very deeply about these abuses and most of us are very frustrated that people in the media like Mr. Calabresi write articles defending this administration and try to pretend that the public doesn't care about the abuses.

In case Mr. Calabresi hasn't noticed voters are coming out in record numbers in the primary because they can't wait to get rid of our current president and his lawless administration. We only wish that Congress would do it's duty and impeach both Bush & Cheney now so that we can be rid of them even sooner.

And once they're gone maybe then we can focus on getting rid of the many sychopant's in the media who have abdicated their responsibilities to properly inform the public.

Throw the Bums Out

My god,if we got rid of all the sycophants (I like sychopants better, more visual)in the media who have not properly informed the public, who would be left? Besides, just how do we focus on "getting rid" of these enemies of the state?

Take a deep breath. People are entitled to another opinion.By the way, stop worrying, these boobs are doing your work for you. Just check out Time's circulation numbers over the last couple of years. And stop making these nonentities more visible by bitching about them. They get more exposure here than in the rag they publish.Who reads Time anymore?

Downloadable Collection of Related Documents in HTML

In 2005 I spent quite a bit of time converting many widely scattered pdfs on the subject to html with links to citations and court decisions. Both the EFF and ACLU lawsuits are there, and many other documents. It is a downloadable collection, located here: http://thewall.civiblog.org/rsf/nsa.html

I hope these prove useful.
