Back when I still weighed about 140..
My favorite bike was an R5 350, ported, polished, stuffed, chambered, rejetted, Koni shocks, car coil for each cylinder, points cam reground for shorter dwell time, triangular section Dunlops, bronze swingarm bushings .. etc. etc.
Bulletproof as only a two stroke can be and faster than hell..
Lean it til your elbows dragged..
This was my bible at the time:

And this was the bike..

The bottom pic is my FZR400 the day I hauled the semi basket case home.. It's about 80% done right now..

Respectfully to Derbig Mooser
It's amazing. Here are world-class-brilliant folk here....
So talented, in fact, they could get jobs at "Grease Monkey"...
That's no reference to YKW @ The White House as a gardener...
LWM is the haberdasher with Elvis sideburns and he sings, "We hound dogs crying all the time"...
~
The doorbell rings? Who is it? The NSA. Go away, it's not Hollerween.
Here's a 'tootsie pop' and go to visit the mortician for a cuticle toenail manicure.
Scram. diddly-squat. scat. And dare-No go on the front lawn though!
P.S.
Derbig. I once changed the oil - I though it was the oil-plug, in a friends Subaro. It was the automatic transmission fluid. So much for that short friendship. I took wood shop in high school so I could afford a coffin for my burial.
I already dug the hole in the mountain laurel.
I want no stone marker. No get too stoned, ok.

Don't be an idiot
Just because an idea was put forth in a book intended for a younger audience doesn't mean the idea was incorrect, or even unsophisticated.
I read Heinlein juveniles when I was a juvenile you condescending pissant.

A group called Answer Chicago is rallying the major anniversary effort here
5th Anniversary of the Iraq War
Mass March & Rally in Chicago
There will be hundreds of powerful anti-war actions all over the country on Wednesday, March 19, the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq war. Every day that the war continues $400 million will be spent on unnecessary mass destruction and death - money that is badly needed for schools, healthcare, housing, to create jobs and so much more. The war is a catastrophe that should end immediately, not in 2009, 2013 or 2020. March 19 is an opportunity to continue building resistance to the war criminals in the Bush Administration, the Pentagon and Congress.
On March 19 in Chicago, we will be meeting at Federal Plaza at 6 pm for a spirited mass rally. We will then march through the loop to Washington Square Park. On the march we will be carrying anti-war placards and banners and raising our voices loudly against the war. March 19 will be a day of vibrant mass action in Chicago powered by the independent grassroots anti-war movement and by working people from all communities.

Hear! Hear!
Dear Obamaniacs and Clintonistas:
Shut the fuck up. Or, as the inestimable Wolcott puts it, spare me the rhetorical emo.
Your choice for president is going to either (a) win or (b) lose. And life in the United States will go on, albeit with higher gas prices, higher oil costs, more housing foreclosures, lower real estate prices, a lower dollar, and fewer jobs.
There will be no universal healthcare.
There will be no comprehensive integrated national mass transit system.
There will be no comprehensive integrated energy policy incorporating fossil-based and renewable energy sources.
There will be no comprehensive integrated employment and job training programs.
There will be no comprehensive integrated immigration policy.
There will be no revisions to NAFTA.
There will be no ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
There will be no signing (re-signing, actually) of the International Criminal Court treaty.
There will be no capture and prosecution of Osama bin Laden.
There will be no closing down of Gitmo, unless the Cuban government (Castro or post-Castro) finally breaks the US lease of Guantanamo.
There will be no quick end to the illegal US occupation of Iraq.
And I’m a reasonably optimistic person!
I say all this because it’s going to take a lot more work and a lot more effort than just electing Clinton or Obama to achieve these things -- and most of you people are already exhausted just from insulting each other’s candidate.
Wusses.

@ Aycharaych
"you condescending pissant"
I don't know, Aychy, you sure talk like a Harley guy. I'll withold judgement, tho. Y'know, the operation and everything.
-
@ Aycharaych
Aycharaych, just look at LWMs letter and tell me that untreated Asperger's Syndrome-by-Proxy Syndrome, by proxy, is something you want to risk.
Good Lord man, would you risk ending up like that?
And if LWM he doesn't have a Harley, he wants a Harley, which is even worse.
LWM, we are here to help.

W.T & 'A' had great reads.... pincher Pedinska etc., You SHOP for pumps? What?
If you wore wood stilts to act like a big politico hot-shot banana,
who works at a clown shop on Capital Hill, you'd go to the Hague!
You'd be given a fair trial for being a clown imposter @ Salon.com
You could be a motorcycle repair Lady based on your good looks.
Then you may tell us all about the Ohio weather and speak daffodil.
We are tired of you bragging about backyard banana trees. Honest?
I believe you. Your dang cats make guest sneeze like a hippopotamus.

Stunning sophistication
or even unsophisticated.
"There are makers, fakers, and takers. No exceptions"
This is why I'm a Bokononist and not a motorcyclist.

Derbig
I've spent a lot of time with the rougher Harley guys, down to and including out and out outlaw bikers.. Banditos mostly.. I used to polish and chrome a lot of their stuff and did a fair bit of painting for 'em too.
I have a commission right now to paint this on a radical chopper tank for a member of a chicano MC..

They ride with the local Patriot Riders, a section of the American Legion post..
