You have to be kidding or you didn't get enough sleep. Cheney has made every bad decision the Bush administration has made and now he wants us to attack Iran. I sure wished all he did was talk. He acts precipitously and irrationally. When he talks, the president and the minions act.

  • Blue Beard?

Blue Beard locked people in the basement dungeons. He held the key. The bones of the dead in the lowly prison testified Blue Beard was a baloney eater. huh.

Blue Beard ran the concession stand and probably stole money?

I hated booster crowd (nothing personal) who said 'You are fired."

Why? "You put too much mayonnaise in the mayors hot chocolate!"

  • My daughter's senior year in HS

The band boosters had an awards ceremony..

They gave out literally dozens of awards to various parents for various things..

I was disillusioned and enraged at the end of the ceremony, after four years of busting our butts, my wife and I didn't get any recognition at all..

Lots of talkers got recognition for talking..

And yet, we who physically ran the concession stand, the booster's primary fund raising endeavor, got nothing..

The talkers who came and collected the money after every game go multiple awards though..

That was the last time I ever got involved in anything even remotely like politics.

I've seen the same dynamic on the job too, the talkers get the rewards and recognition, the doers get bupkus..

Just go and read Scott Adam's "Dilbert" for a while.

  • Anarchists to the left!

    Individualists to the right!

    Now fight!

    I'll take a nap.

  • RMP

    Precisely my point..

    Talkers make the decisions..

    Doers get the shaft..

    It was ever thus..

You must be from my village-town? The booster lady had falsies. If she walked across a stage she sorta hip-hopped to do a bouncing jitter-bug dance.

She broke up a friend of mine's homestead. But that was ok.

I once coached a high school soccer team and laughed aloud,

when a child ran down the field toward the wrong soccer post.

I never was awarded a trophy for pouring ketchup in the principals root beer. Not fair.

Learn to pat yourself on the back. It feels good. I found that since I know myself far better than anyone else ever could, I try not to let other people's judgment or thoughtless behavior carry much weight. When someone you admire offers praise, that does feel very good.

  • Talkers..

    Robert Heinlein said it best:

"There are makers, fakers, and takers. No exceptions"

"Put not your faith in princes. Since they don't produce, they must steal".

    I still miss him...

I didn't care about the award, per se.. It was just watching people who had far less sweat equity in the organization get award after award and at the end to feel spat upon by the talkers.

Frankly I was stunned when the ceremony came to an end and our names had never been mentioned..

I pretty much keep my mouth shut IRL, I know my opinions on many things upset a lot of people and I didn't want to make trouble for my daughter by pointing out the sometimes illegal behavior of the band director in having little group prayers during school sponsored events..

My wife is my polar opposite, outgoing and friendly and very much remembered by everyone..

I can see them forgetting to award me, I know that snubbing my wife was deliberate though.

A thick skin, and persistence helps. Your quality is recognized here; I can't believe it wouldn't be recognized anywhere.

  • apologies. not high school soccer.

A child Lions Club sponsored youth league team. The food vendor failure position meant the local personnel office stamped "Reject!" on the Wendy's Hamburger opportunity positions.

    `

gads.post Nam, I could not get a migrant worker prune trees job for beer money. Serious. I tease about Wendy's. Thank Nature I was fired from a alter boy role because I giggled during

the mea culpa Latin prayer. I got dumped.

I dropped the wine crystal cruets. Honest.

I daydreamed about Notre Lady Dames with no clothes....a habit.

forgive me? Hellions . Halley's Comet. Hoopla hoopla. Hallelujahs

  • I worked for Wendy's for a little while..

Very close to a fashion college and there were a number of exceedingly attractive young ladies working with me.

    Almost made it worthwhile..

I've never forgiven Heinlein for Starship Troopers. (I was never big on save the fucking for the fighting men. Mea culpa.

    Thanks for the compliment..

My online persona and my RL persona are quite different..

I'm well spoken but tend to longish pauses looking for the right word. Words roll off my fingertips far more easily than off my tongue.

re: barn raisers and group efforts

I believe it is Indira Gandhi who is credited with (paraphrasing):

There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who do the work and those who take credit. I aspire to the former as there is less competition.

Typically, I'm much more willing to swing the hammer and threaten my thumb than to read blueprints - although I sometimes find myself unwillingly thrust into the blueprint role. Who was it who said, There comes a time in every project when you have to shoot the planners and begin construction? I hope by staying away from the blueprints I can steer clear of the bullets.

As for workers vs talkers, comfort can be found in Virtue is its own reward. Or, that's what I tell myself, anyway.

If Retired Military Patriot retires from politics there is a position near bye @ Long John Silvers cooking the fish William T-guts?

I'm gonna retire and groom the neighbor's Chihuahuas.

Glenn may quit law studies and grow Blue Goose potatoes.

Very few people realize that Starship Troopers was a *dystopia*.

It took me a good couple of decades to figure that out..

It took me even longer to figure out this little saying from the Notebooks of Lazarus Long..

"Have you noticed how much they look like orchids? Lovely!"
