Off-Topic and with Trepidation
Slate's Explainer answers a question posed earlier this week as to why pay a woman to have sex is illegal, but paying her to perform sex acts in front of a camera is not.

First Amendment.
Making a movie is expression, and is protected.

Maybe the Democrats deliberately timed it this way for the Presidential election!
If this new bill is rejected by McCain and co, Obama can slam him repeatedly for rejecting a bill that would Protect Us From The Terrorists.
I've always suspected that the Democrats were up to something with their constantly changing attitudes and actions.

Glenn wrote: "Donna Edwards ousted long-time incumbent Al Wynn by accusing him of being excessively complicit with the Bush agenda."
That's the new rhetorical question to ask McCain:
Are you for America or for the Bush agenda?"
-
What's good for the goose...
I wouldn't make too much out of the opinion of the odious Weekly Standard being "humiliatingly false" in their belief that the Dems would cave on telecom amnesty, when you had essentially the same belief on this issue. Like the WS, until the wording of the legislation was released, you were all-but certain that the Dems would cave. Just saying.

-- L.W.M. in another mindless smear ...
... and he uses http://www.mickeyz.net as the "authority" to smear Dr. Pual.
Well I guess that is the best lwm can do since he is mentally incapable of making a rational argument. Timberman is pleased, no doubt.

"I left work early today and listened to Sean Hannity on the drive home."
I do not understand this. Many here on the board say they listen to Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity, or other crazed right-wingers. Why? It is pure drivel and hate-mongering.
I read http://www.newshounds.us/ to keep up with the fox assholes; I will not have that mindless drivel on in my house. Why does everyone listen to this hate-porn. Hell we hate hate-mongers here in this comment section; you can read lwm all you want. :-)

Here are some rules for being a good citizen
by Charlie Reese
Rule No. 1 is that people given power will tend to abuse it. This applies to everyone from local government to national government. It applies to Democrats and to Republicans. The reason it is so universal is because it originates in human nature, which is the same today as it was 10,000 years ago. ...
Rule No. 2 is that politicians have an inclination to lie. The Bush administration lied us into a war. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The regime of Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with al-Qaida or with the attack on the U.S. It is also a lie that "everyone believed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction." The U.N. weapons inspectors had never said, after 1995, there were weapons. They said there was a paper discrepancy. One part of the government said x amount had been destroyed; another branch said it was y amount. You will find paper discrepancies in practically every government in the world. Witness, for example, the numerous weapons and large amounts of money our own government cannot account for in Iraq. ...
Rule No. 3 is to always oppose excessive government secrecy. Common sense tells us that government is entitled to some secrecy, primarily military in time of war. Recent governments, however, have gone overboard and promiscuously classify practically any piece of paper that comes across their desk. Usually the only thing they are protecting is our own government from embarrassment or possibly criminal prosecution. ...
==============================
I took out the examples and comments for brevity's sake, you can read the entire article many places; such as here:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/reese/reese436.html
The first question I had as I read these rules is how did Americans forget them? Can it be that the mindless war over minutia between 'us' and 'them' (Democrats v. Republicans) has created a situation where anything is forgiven as long as 'my side' does it? No, can we really be that stupid as a people?
The second question I had is if the Obama administration will do anything about these things. Will he order the declassification of damn near everything that is classified? At least anything from over 20 years ago. (number picked at random for an example)
Will Obmama try to reduce the power of the presidency? At least make it plain that we need congress to authorise any wars or even acts of war?
Time will tell, as always.

LWM @ 5:52 brought up Oliver Sacks. That neurologist physician may not be Cicero, but he is worth a read. The new book (I need to read the following comments. I'm catching up.) Sacks has written is about Music and the brain.
He is interesting. He no reincarnation?
No. He's not LWM or Hoagy Carmichal.

You meant fugue?
In music class the red faced "blow-holes' with stuffed-up noses yell as sopranos,
FUGH!
The problem?
Everyone mispronounces 'fugue'...
It happens on the put-put golf course too.

Reading Friday night comments reminds me of being at the Staggering Dog Tale Saloon.

Notorious W.E.S. @ 8:06.

It reminded me of the time Notorious W.E.S. made a 'M'ess.
On a visit to Disney Land WES had a panic attack? His ants?
In his pants wasn't ants. The enunciating of WES? 'M' O Yes!
`
Poor Salon's mopper and LBJ lover, KW? Don't guess. O. W.T?

Clean up your own darn Mess in your Elephant pants W.E.S.!
W.T.? It's okay 'four' golfers to "fetch" the golf ball from FOX?
FOX hole punditry is "foul"...

Mulligan Stew is delicious....
Clean the old garbage in the "icebox" out?
Everything gets thrown in a Mulligan Mess.
This is No-intended to be mean. I'd say the same to Litter Suster.

Wow
Miss a day, come in late, and this happens. I'm stunned. This could all still fall apart, but it's undeniably good news. Great start to the week-end.
