The principled, honest House Republicans

Three weeks ago, the House GOP mocked the Democrats' proposal for a closed session to debate FISA as a dangerous gift to the terrorists. Today, they demanded a closed session to debate FISA.

The letters thread is now closed.

lwm is still unable to make a logical argument ...

Wanker (lwm): "If Rothbard acheived anything it was to destroy libertarianism by pandering to any group he thought could best advance his goals. When that group was the New Left, he praised the Black Panthers. When that group was the paleopukes, he engaged in race baiting. Just like Lew Rockwell and Ron Paul. "

-----

No proof, just foaming like Rush Limbaugh who is reported to have used venues like this one in his early days to try out ideas. I see a lot of Limbaugh in you. A little coward who can not make logical arguments and must only use vile attacks against people.

Never, never, never do we see lwm try to defend logically the smear attacks that he tosses about.

Try to prove something lwm/rush.

Arne and government ...

Thanks for clearing up your stance. And on the above, I guess we'll just have to disagree.

People acting under colour of law have done some horrible things. And some good things. People acting outside the law have done even worse things. I, FWIW, still maintain that the law is generally a good thing (in part, because [at least when it's working] it prevents the thugs from acting under colour of law or out of sheer thuggishness).

Disclosure: I was once assaulted and battered by some tiny twerp of a policeman who thought his badge gave him a bigger wee-wee, in a holding cell, with a half dozen other police around to step in should I have been foolish enough to swing back. ... I'd rather work to see that my gummint works. Maybe you can see a bit of that in Glenn's effrts here as well?

Cheers,

-- Arne Langsetmo

You are welcome, and thanks to you for not being a 'foamer' yourself; which as you know is not the norm even here in UT.

We will just disagree for now and I'll hope that you keep my stance in mind as you read the news, both domestic and foreign. You will be hard pressed not to see that your experiences are not all that uncommon.

Arne, it is not just 'police brutality' though; that would be easy to fix. (or easier, perhaps) It is that government almost always causes the very problem that we go to them to get solutions. There are a million examples, but I must choose just one due to the nature of this forum. I choose the federal government trying to help during the great depression after they had caused it in the first place!

Society will always create order, and government will create depravity. I choose the order that free men and women create naturally. (not saying that it is perfect)

What I like about you, Bucky

What I like about you is I can just summon you any time I wish. Like a conjurer's demon you'll appear and utter a few poorly constructed sentences and disjointed paragraphs, you do more to discredit your fellow travellers, Rockwell and Raimondo.

A bit like Tom Sawyer, really. But instead of tricking you into whitewashing that ugly fence, I've got you stripping that thin veneer of whitewash off, revealing the ugly and decaying surface beneath.

If Rothbard acheived anything it was to destroy libertarianism by pandering to any group he thought could best advance his goals. When that group was the New Left, he praised the Black Panthers. When that group was the paleopukes, he engaged in race baiting. Just like Lew Rockwell and Ron Paul.

Begone, demon.

And return no more until I summon you next.

@ bucky1

I plead guilty to believing that governments are by far the most dangerous and brutal thing that you will come into contact with in this lifetime. If you disagree, perhaps you could tell me what group of thugs are worse.

Thanks for clearing up your stance. And on the above, I guess we'll just have to disagree.

That hardly means I think all police are bad, or that the law is an arse. In another amusing episode, I once heard Mike Gallagher (a RW talk show foamer) talking about a caller to his radio show who had called the cops "pigs" (this was somewhere around the time of the Abner Louima episode); Gallagher and a subsequent caller were joking about how they wished that this caller found himself in a dark alley with a couple of NYC's 'finest'.... And that perhaps sums up the RW take on the role of gummint ... and of mine. I am, despite my experience, not quite to quick to write it all off; I'd rather work to see that my gummint works. Maybe you can see a bit of that in Glenn's effrts here as well?

Cheers,

coward lwm hides again ...

I see Timberman blew kisses you way for once again hiding behind slime and propaganda. But then, cowards often flock together, eh?

No credible words of his own again on an issue. Yes Timberman and wanker both say Rothbard was 'odious' but no proof --- and Timberman could have taken Rothbard on while he still lived. But, he did not. Waited, and then helped slime the dead.

Cowards. What to do with them?

Arne

There is no need to capitalize libertarian since I am not speaking of the American political party. I would never join that party --- well at least not as presently constituted.

I wanted to distinguish the ideologues from those with libertarian tendencies (as is true of many liberals here that believe in, oh, say, civil [read: "social"] liberties). The ones that deserve the capital-L appellation are those that insist as well that money is the measure of man, that gummint is not only untrustworthy but actually bad, and that all social and/or public intercourse should be carried out with the requisite throwing down of gloves. You know, the ones that think that "Atlas Shrugged" was a work of non-fiction....

Cheers,

The people in the branch of libertarian thought that I would be most comfortable with are no fans of Rand. In fact, she and Rothbard had a most famous falling out.

I plead guilty to believing that governments are by far the most dangerous and brutal thing that you will come into contact with in this lifetime. If you disagree, perhaps you could tell me what group of thugs are worse.

The biggest mistake people make about Rothbardian libertarians is that we support the corporate welfare that passes for 'free-markets' of today. No. That would be the Cato or Reason beltway crowd.
