Unfortunately, the great majority of our politicians/officials don't know how to react to a challenge except to piss harder and longer. That's mostly because of closed minds and ears who are not looking for answers or solutions. They are looking at how to beat the competition, win the most spoils and stay in office at any price. Sad isn't it?

  • Anonymust

he really wanted to be part of making history in the Democratic party's primary.

    -- Anonymust

That's self indulgent, self centered and just weird. As William Shatner used to say to the obsessed Trekies, "Get a life, damn it!"

  • I have to ask.

If Power had made it to the General Election campaign, and then told Peev that it was McCain who was vicious, would Carlson have insisted that it be kept off the record? That is, I know the answer, but the question should be out there.

From what I've seen of the British media--mainly the BBC and The Independent; I have more confidence in them than the US media. Does Carlson think it's the media's job to keep ordinary people ignorant?

  • Thank you, Kitt!

All of the younger folks I know (well, he and my daughter) seem to think that I have unusually rigid rules about who should be allowed to vote in a Democratic primary.

Of course, none of them were alive in 1960, or 1963, or 1968, or 1969, etc. etc.

To her credit, though, my daughter did pay some attention to Iran-Contra despite her tender years.

Anyway, the point I tried to make to them was that just because someone was dabbling in the primary was no guarantee that they would also vote for a Democrat in the general. Which... pretty much throws all of the forecasting (based on Democratic turnout) right out the window, doncha think?

  • I'm fine with it.

    a joint ticket?

So, you don't like that idea, LWM?

    Ondolette,

The ancient Romans were hardly puritans. That's who landed at Plymouth Rock. Not Caligula.

  • @Ondolette

In fact, it was abortion they had less of a problem with. Going from turning a blind eye to banning it and then back to turning a blind eye. They used herbal remedies and other methods to terminate or avoid pregnancies. I've done my research and so has the naked guy. He's one of the better ones, although he's not a pc historian.

18th Century Man - historian Forrest McDonald - Brief Article - Interview

"I write for anybody who's intelligent and who's interested in the subject," University of Alabama historian Forrest McDonald told C-SPAN's Brian Lamb back in 1994. Continuing in the same welcoming spirit, McDonald also offered that he writes in the nude on his porch; a complete transcript of the genuinely engaging interview is available online at www.booknotes.org/transcripts/10046.htm.

McDonald, who jokes that he's spent most of his adult life in the 18th century, is the author of over a dozen books, including a biography of Alexander Hamilton and The American Presidency: An Intellectual History. His latest, the eminently readable States' Rights and the Union: Imperium in Imperio, 1776-1876 (University Press of Kansas), traces states' rights discourse from the Declaration of Independence through the Reconstruction Era....

  • Apples and Oranges

Greenwald is conflating two entirely different issues here: a)American journalists' general obsequious deference to elected officials and their stand-ins; b)"Gotcha!" yellow journalism whose sole purpose is to sell papers. What public good was served by revealing Powers' instantaneously-regretted emotional vocalization? Unless Greenwald's point is that it's a good thing that Obama's campaign be held up to ridicule and that one of his most knowledgeable advisers be sidelined for what amounts to a slip of the toungue, I don't see how that stands up to scrutiny.

Peev had to have known precisely what would happen to Powers once the word "monster" was published--comments which provided no useful insight into the Obama campaign or Powers role in it. The Scotsman saw an opportunity for a titillating headline and they ruthlessly exploited it. If Greenwald genuinely can't see the difference between asking John Bolton or Tony Blair tough questions, and Peev seizing a chance to create a tempest in a teapot solely for a attention-grabbing tabloid headline, I pity him. I dislike the man, but I actually think Carlson got the better of Peev in the segment when he pointed out that she failed to ask or report why Powers would call her a "monster" in the first place. Anyone defending Peev and The Scotsman obviously hasn't read the (content-free) original article. Look it up on The Scotsman site: it reads precisely like something out of The National Enquirer.

  • @7:07. Retired Military Patriot.

You need to volunteer with more eagerness.

If someone sheds boots, we'll have less weight.

If you chicken-out, no problem, and you know it will be fun.

If secrets are safe...I'd only trust a Anonymust and a Pedinka

If Glenn the attorney travels along, I'll appreciate a defense attorney.

If I ever marry.... It will sure be a good gal-law-partner who is kind.

If I don't go snooze soon... I'll be telling the best kept secrets @ www.Salon.barn.dumped.

  • Shhhh! Chemiazrit...

It is well known that Glenn has only endorsed Ron Paul to date...

    and enlarged prostates? ;->

Oh good lord, I almost typed prostrates.

"Enlarged Prostrates" would be sort of the opposite of pissing contests, DYT?

Somewhat, but I'm sure the Democratic primaries are bringing in legitimate record numbers above and beyond indulgent brats like your friend and the chicanery of some Republican jackwads that think they know who can be beat in the general.

Just before Salon outlawed anonymices one of the Anonymice would pop in once in while to rub it in that Republicans have been crossing over in order to sabotage the Democratic primary. I gave the guy "what for" once or twice. Only trouble is, I think it might have been L.W.M., the nemesis of The Guy whom Likes to Refer to Himself in the Third Person, Buckaroo. If so, that LWM bastard got me on that one.
