At worst, he deserved it as an evil Israeli. Didn't you get the memo?
it is a matter of hatred (mostly one-way) that cannot be placated or negotiated with.
Its always one way. That's the magic of it. They can't be negotiated with therefore I refuse to negotiate.
And no one sees the irony.
-- Paul Dirks
Now that was spot on. It was spot on given the present topic, and also with most other conflicts. Some of us do see the irony is the only quibble I can think of.
You're right, my mistake, Sharon was with the government that ended in 1992. But then you are attributing all the growth to the first months of 1993? Didn't seem like that at the time.
Yeah, L.W.M., I remember the serious talk about TV elevating the masses, and Chekhov sponsored by Ipana toothpaste, and Sid Caesar being obviously a lot smarter than his material. It was all over by 1965. What we've got now honestly makes me ashamed to be a human being.
Does he make the college circuit? That's an inroad to young minds. You know the drill: History (or Poli Sci or Linguistics or Econ or Philosophy) prof mandates students go to the speakers' series, write a summary, whatever. I've been to enough where the mandated students look bored to death, but you never know who gets a fire lit under him/her from such incidental contact.
According to the Arts and Humanities Citation Index in 1992, Chomsky was cited as a source more often than any other living scholar during the 1980–1992 time period, and was the eighth-most cited scholar in any time period.
I assume that's world wide, with limited citations in his homeland.
If you want to see Chomsky, you'll need public television but that's smacks of creeping socialism and you can't sell ad time for Viagra on it.
Time to get a real handle.
We wanted to share with you a CNN clip which features NJDC Executive Director Ira Forman affirming that both Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have strong records of support for Israel. The clip can be viewed on CNN's website.
As partisan Democrats, we have pointed out that both parties support Israel because for nearly half a century our community has succeeded in making support for Israel a bipartisan issue that transcends politics. We have rejected efforts of conservatives to turn the U.S.-Israel relationship into a political wedge issue.
We were gratified that in last night's Democratic debate both Senators Clinton and Obama strongly expressed their unwavering support for Israel and the Jewish community. If you missed it, you can view the transcript here.
Sadly, there are some on the right who are attempting to scare our community out of supporting Democrats by using support for Israel as political football. To help combat such efforts - and debunk other circulating smears about the 2008 candidates - we have set up a special website.
We hope you will visit this site frequently and encourage friends and family to do so as well.
Sincerely,
Linda Berg
Political Director
National Jewish Democratic Council

My point is that settlement growth hasn't varied from Likud to Labor administrations and that the Oslo Accord for Labor was contingent on rapid settlement growth.
Angry old man.
You could give Chomsky the keys to the castle and all he would do is bitch about it.
Glenn, why don't YOU ask Chomsky for an interview? I'd bet he'd agree to it. That way, you can ask him yourself about his feelings vis a vis marginalization.
Pure conjecture on my part, but I would imagine he has a certain frustration level after having been a (nearly) lone voice in the wilderness for literally decades. As you well know, he's been railing about the narrowness of the range of policy discussion in the U.S. for quite a while.

Everybody wants to be a comedian. Move over Jon Stewart. There's a new boy in town . . .
I gather you think this incident demonstrates the futility of negotiating with Hamas.
When did Hamas win the election again? How long has Israel and the US been assiduously not negotiating with them? It's working real well isn't it! Who would want to change course under such an auspicious record of unmitigated success?
Just like not talking to North Korea and Cuba was so successful in bringing a speedy end to those undemocratic threats to peace and world stability.
This whole silent treatment shit never ever worked anywhere. I can see why this appeals so strongly to right wingers.
Who will Glenn blames when not much of anything changes under President Obama?
Mystical Jewish mind/banking/media control black magic?
I believe, without being certain, that Salon is going -- once again -- to ban anonymous commenters and require that a name be used. Spittle like this is why I have become convinced that this is a good idea.

What a great move! I do so hope you are correct.
Could we go a step further and have just one name per IP address? Some here have so many names that it is the same as being anonymous. Well, almost.
If I wanted to tell a joke, I'd bring up Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, or other Democratic "Leaders", or just bring up the Democratic Leadership in General.
It's true. Chomsky also knows which side his bread is buttered on. He walks a line, he doesn't cross it. He is finicky and for all his rhetoric he plays divide and conquer when needed, just like the rest of them.
