While Obama as been pretty good in not taking the bait...
... the Obama campaign didn't pass up the opportunity to attack the Clinton campaign in what may have been a RNC/RW foamer "dirty trick". Click on my sig for my thoughts on the "Somali clothes" brouhaha. It was Drudge that "catapulted" the story .... and we know who's side he's on. The RW Noise Machine gets a two-fer ... and gets it for free. Unless ... the HRC and Obama campaign get it together and point out that it's the RW Drudge that was responsible for instigating this.
Cheers,

Glenn Greenwald - surreal as ever.
yeah, I'm sure Obama in turbans and all those attacks on his patriotism and being the most liberal senator won't hurt him a bit. Even without his favorite Slumlord, the Syrian Resko bedcomes household knowledge and much more.
Yeah, Glenn has showed us how it's done once again!!!
So, um, which states exactly that Kerry lost is Obama going to pick up?? Not one. And also will lose many that Kerry didn't.
Of course Glenn knows this.

The racist, xenophobe crowd wasn't Obama's target audience in any case. The Rethugs have that crowd sewn up. Click my sig for more.

Say What?
In response to a letter I wrote him about FISA, in which I included a lovely message pad depicting a typically vengeful and dyspeptic President wearing earphones, the cord of which morphed into barbed wire and attractively wrapped the page, I receieved the following from my understandably nervous faux-moderate Senator, future game show host Gordon H. Smith.
Dear Cocktailhag,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the proposed changes to the Foreign Intelligences Surveillance Act. I appreciate your comments and welcome the opportunity to respond.
There is little doubt that the devastating terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001, exposed some serious deficiencies in our domestic law enforcement and intelligence gathering capabilities. (CH: How about in our idiot President and his minions? But please go on.) Shortly after 9/11, a congressional resolution was passed that authorized the President to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, and persons that are determined (by whom, you fascist shill?) to be planning, authorizing, committing, or aiding future terrorist actions. (For which I fervently hope, otherwise I'm toast...)
Recently, the Bush Administration has asked ("threatened" is such an ugly word) the Congress to provide telecommunications companies with immunity from (justified, asshole!) lawsuits brought against them for assisting surveillance efforts without (required!!!!) warrants. An individual may be granted immunity from prosecution for his testimony in very limited cases. (Or for withholding testimony, as in this case, you liar...) Therefore, Congress must use careful discretion when considering expanding this protection. (Anyone you know, Senator?)
Like you, (!) I believe that we must work to safeguard our civil liberties and I'm working to provide that they are protected. (By voting to eviscerate them) There must be a careful balance struck between preserving Americans' freedoms and their security. (a feather on the former and a brick on the latter) The freedoms that Americans (used to) enjoy are (were) the envy of the world, and we must not allow our fundamental values to be compromised. (!)
You can rest assured ( Whew! ok, I'll pour myself a nightcap and put my curlers in.. You handle it, Senator) that I will work closely with my colleagues (Dick? Jay? McConnell?) to strike the proper balance between protecting our country from future terrorist attacks while ensuring adequate (there's the first honest word) protection of our civil liberties.
Again, I thank you for sharing your concerns. It is a great honor and privilege to represent (a rapidly diminishing fragment of) Oregon in the United States Senate.
Sincerely (!),
Senator Gordon Smith

Obama dismissing right-wing attacks
With due respect to the editor Obama has not shown any guts because thus far no one has had the spine to make him accountable. That will happen soon. As for the right-wing attacks, it's a joke and expected. This is daily retorick which is primary season. Let us see the beef when the left wing Rove and Co. take him on. That will be the litmus test for REAL strength. So far Mr. Obama has had a media coronation and Clinton has proven she can take what comes at her and it has been from the left and the right. She picks herself up and fights the fight. She has more spine then most men. She should have been coronated for her intelligence, leadership and experience. The media has more fun demonizing her. CNN's Jack Cafferty has at least two of his four nightly Q & A on attacks against Hillary. They call these folks "The Best Political Team on Television". It would be OK to pat your own back if it were true, but the majority of them are Republicans. How is that fair? Their Gloria Borger takes some pretty ugly shots at Hillary. CNN is no longer viewed in our home. I rather read transcripts from mediamatters.org. The truth.

The 'Multicultural' Left makes this problem worse
The left abets this same sexist ethos every time it defends multiculturalism. Outside of the secular, reason-based approach to life born out of the Enlightenment and French Revolution (I do realize the story is more complicated than that), I think of no major world culture valuing gender egalitarianism in any meaningful fashion. The 'respect and tolerance' dogma preached by some leftists towards non-Western cultures works in parallel with the sexism primarily rooted in Judeo-Christian values as seen in attitudes towards Hillary Clinton.
