Heh
He knows full well via his cite that the contemporary reference for "magic negro" was the LA Times article by David Ehrenstein. Who happens to be a black, jewish, irish, gay, guy.
Dave E. wrote about the concept of "The Magical Negro" as a literary device in fiction and film.
Barack, The Magic Negro is more like the really stupid and gross racist schtick radio DJs like Imus and McGurk did. Juvenile.
My own philosophy about dealing with someone acting out as a dick is to ignore them. They may not go away, but as they say the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. That works well for me. There are much better people here to spend your time with.

That's a laugh because you definitely don't practice what you preach. I'm curious, do you love, hate or feel indifferent about Islamofascists and/or Democrats?
-
How silly of me!
"That's a laugh because you definitely don't practice what you preach."
Of course you don't.
You're a Republican!
-
Wait! I DO want to be clear!
I didn't bring up the subject of bipartisanship. It is not a trait that I am particularly keen on.
But it is something that, with no basis in fact, some Obama supporters keep bringing up in support of their guy. And the exact opposite is what is true! Obama has no real credentials in "bipartisanship." Or at least none that can compare with John McCain, who might just be the most notable example of someone who has made the greatest of personal political risks in the pursuit of his own bipartisan principles.
Look, I don't doubt that the Salon readership despises "the Gang of Fourteen" Senators, for the opposite reasons that I also despise them. But McCain was one of them, and Obama wasn't. The Gang of Fourteen was bipartisan. McCain-Feingold (another mistake in my book) was bipartisan. McCain's controversial (for its extreme moderation!) position on immigration is bipartisan.
So what bipartisan legislative initiative do you credit to Obama? You probably can't name one. I don't think there is one.
If you are someone who likes "bipartisanship" as a quality in a good candidate, I submit that McCain is your choice. But that's not why I am supporting McCain. I don't care much for his bipartisanship. I just don't want a Democrat nominating federal judges.

Elephantman, you've butchered irony and raped satire.
willing to call terrorists "terrorists." The ACLU wants to call terrorists "defendants."
A trite and unconvincing re-imaging of the controversy in question.
Finally, I have little doubt about the outcome of the next general election. One side, yours or mine, is bound to be extremely disappointed.
Good dodge. I'll have to remember that one.
I just hope and expect that it will be your side that is so disappointed. If moderates and bipartisan-minded independents know their issues, they will vote for McCain, and not Clinton or Obama.
Only if they all get lobotomies first. The last seven years have amply demonstrated the current GOP has no real interest in 'bipartisanship' or even basic governance. Anyone with two brain cells has already jumped ship from the GOP.

Some Stray Thoughts
Alexander Cockburn in The Nation says Hillary Cllnton would be in better shape today, running as Hillary Rodham, had she divorced Bill around 2001. What does it matter now?
Cockburn also suggest Obama may simply be the black Jimmy Carter.
Yet, Obama, described by Stanley Crouch as a Chicago bluesman, could finally put to bed the famed, and ugly Southern strategy of the Republican Party, winning the North and the coasts across the board.
But, is his "poetry" and "audacity of hope" sufficient in an election year when, in fact, troops are in the field on two fronts - and possibly three - if Pakistan goes into further chaos?
-
Glenn, I think you've almost got it
I watched Obama speak in Houston last night, and as usual I was dazzled. He is talking over the heads of those who interpose themselves between the public and their political candidates; that is an excellent observation.
I think, though, that you don't go far enough in stating how effective Obama is at this. Let the right wing throw mud; let them spew venom at him. Obama is one candidate that can overcome it. Clinton is a venal, corrupt, ambitious warmonger - against her the right wing could make the filth stick. Half the country believes her to be Evil Incarnate now.
But Obama... young, hopeful, charismatic, articulate, intelligent, and a clear antidote to everything we've been subjected to for the past 16 - not 8 - years.... Obama will let the amoral right wing take its best shot, and will still be standing.
Yes, I am excited about this. Clinton the Candidate, Clinton the President, would be a disaster for progressives. Obama is what this country needs, and to its delight it may actually get him.

I guess you missed Syspog's latest post? I'd point out what a nitwit you are but why bother.

@ Elephantman
"But it is something that, with no basis in fact, some Obama supporters keep bringing up in support of their guy."
Ok I'll break the code for you.
'Bipartisan' in regards to Obama means the same thing as 'change' does in his campaign: Not Hillary.
-
Elephantman, please stop your desecration of humor.
I just don't want a Democrat nominating federal judges.
I'm sure you'd feel much better with someone like Janice Rogers Brown and a return to Lochner-era deregulation of industry.
I'm also sure we'll all feel much better if you'd just jump into the East River wearing a cement overcoat.
