  • How Touching

Dirty attacks are just an inescapable feature of American politics and have been since the 1780s. People used Sally Hemmings against Jefferson in his day. Rumors of James Buchanan's homosexuality were used against him. Don't try to make me feel sorry for Obama because a few idiots have made some stupid claims about him, and don't try to claim that this is unique to the GOP.

  • @ Elephantdung

McCain was one of the bipartisan "gang of fourteen" on judicial appointments;...

Wrong church, doofus. Yours is down by that oak tree with the noose hanging from it.

In case you didn't notice (which you didn't), no one here likes the "Gang of Fourteen", and we think they are the exact opposite -- the enemy -- of "bipartisanship". For reasons that are above your grade level to comprehend.

    Cheers,

  • @anonymous

    It's Shocking

How naive you guys on the left are about Obama. One week of attacks produced nothing! Oh. My God. Imagine that! He withstood one week of attacks!

Do you actually think Obama will pull off a win against McCain in November? It's going to be a very weepy fall season in the left wings blogosphere.

    --Anonymous

What is shocking is that in almost every head to head matchup done to date, McCain does better against Hillary by a few points but Obama beats McCain by a much wider margin in every poll.

That would be a sampling of the popular vote and electoral votes are what is needed to take the presidency. True enough, but we already know we don't need the South to win it, so I guess you are the one who is "naive". Or maybe just a racist.

Can you list some examples of the 'democrat' party presidential candidates using lame 'facts' or stretching coincidences to discredit thier 'republican' rivals?

I would hope one party or the other has some pride.

  • I'd just like to say

I'm glad that this thread hasn't devolved into a Hillary vs. Obama warzone. I almost forgot what it's like to read people who aren't Glenn Greenwald who actually have things to say that they didn't read on the back of flyers. It felt like more than 2 neurons firing while skimming the comments.

  • 'The ACLU wants to call terrorists "defendants."'

    Elephant, please.

If you're going to goad us, at least be a little creative. The ACLU, for goodness' sake?

Say what you will about Rove, at least “liberals want to offer therapy and understanding for our attackers” has a little pizzazz to it.

It's like you're not even trying. It kind of hurts my feelings.

  • Asher

The Repubs fight filthy, and they are proud of it. You can find a lot of junk the Democrats have pulled but they're just not wired to play as filthy as the RNC is.

Here one of a million examples for you.

PS...no one was asking you to feel sorry for Obama. Quite the opposite in fact. We were being reminded that the filth is beginning to pile up and the stench of it will only increase over time. It's called, expect it, deal with it and deal with hard as you can.

    "Elephantdung" is hard of reading....

[Elephantdung]:Barack as the "Magic Negro" was not invented by Rush Limbaugh, and if you paid any attention at all, you'd have known that.

So here is your remedial education in the literary notion of "the magic negro" courtesy of Wikipedia...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Negro

Um-hmmmm. And if you actually click over and read the page, you see:

The magical negro is typically "in some way outwardly or inwardly disabled, either by discrimination, disability or social constraint," often a janitor or prisoner. He has no past; he simply appears one day to help the white protagonist. He is the black stereotype, "prone to criminality and laziness." To counterbalance this, he has some sort of magical power, "rather vaguely defined but not the sort of thing one typically encounters."

No, nothing disparaging in His Emanence Rush's song. He was complimenting Barack....

And no one here credited El Pilonidal Cyst as having "invented" that. He's too stoopid for that; he's just the big mouth...piece.

    Now FOAD, "Elephantdung"....

    Cheers,

    -- Arne Langsetmo

Of all the idiots writing letters to Salon, you are special.

To clear it all up for you: No, Rush Limbaugh didn't invent the term "Magic Negro" and no, he wasn't the first to apply it to Obama. Rush was responding, in a highly clever and memorable way (such that it is continually talked about, on forums as far-removed as Salon), to an article about Obama's charisma in which SOMEBODY ELSE applied the term "magic negro" to Obama. In that regard, "magic negro" was not being used as an epithet; rather, it was an attention-getter in a newspaper column. The intent of Rush Limbaugh was to ridicule Obama's growing legend for charisma, and to also lampoon a press corps that appears to be fawning over Obama.

All you've done, Arne, is to prove that you are too dumb to understand the Rush Limbaugh Program, which is not that high of a bar to begin with.

As for accusing me of being a racist, I can say to you, with all sincerity, fuck you.

  • @ Elephantman

Regarding Lieberman I was referring to if the dems pick up a few more seats in the Senate, Lieberman can kiss all his chairmanships goodbye, and he'll be the jr. member on some pointless committee. Basically I meant buh-bye from the dem party.

    He's a Rudy fan.

    He's a racist pig.

Modern Democrats have played rough. Never the false smears like the GOP.

Asher Steinberg... I Appear To Be The Only Rudy Fan Who Owns A Computer

Yep. I'm seriously torn up about Rudy's soon-to-be fourth place finish in the primary. To all the people who think McCain's so electable, just wait until Hillary starts sailing into him for saying we should stay in Iraq for a hundred years. Rudy was the only Republican who could have won; he's been out of office for so long no one can blame him for anything that's gone wrong the past 8 years. And he was actually a good mayor, New Yorkers' hatred for the guy notwithstanding. I mean, who can trust what a New Yorker thinks about anything anyway? You folks hate A-Rod too.

Clearly there is no rhyme or reason for the red stars. One was awarded for that comment.
