If Obama is our nominee I'll fight on his behalf. But as I have confessed before, my politics are pretty juvenile these days. I root for the ultimate wing-nut nightmare, which is Hillary. But a Movin' On Up Black man with uppity black wife is a nightmare for them too.

  • obama should

as glen as done here for a long time so can obama do the same. instead of writing as glen does obama should do it in front of the camera .declaring it to all america .let it come out from is own mouth what is being said in the press. so those can be put on the defensive so the rest of americans might know what is being said. maybe even mention some names to or publications.

  • Life's a campaign. (& then you die!)

Chris LOves Politicks, Glenn. (*With my new, vastly expanded TV I watched rapt this am as Chris 'grilled' some Rep. who is for Obama over Obama's [lack of a] Record. "Name something" [that Obama has accomplished legislatively] Chris kept pressing, interrupting. oooh, Hardball.! If it were me, I would have started with Obama's FISA vote last week ... and worked my way back to Obama'a stance {well documented} on Iraq - and foreign policy in general. REAL accompl;ishments, imho.)I think Chris is retarded in some way.

You don't tug on supermans cape/'ya don't spit in the wind'. Obama may be skinny/wirey, but he IS TOUGH. Glenn:

    >"I have no idea whether Obama's transcendent charisma or the historically demonstrated efficacy of low-life right-wing attacks will be more potent..."

I don't give a flying hoot about Obama's 'transcendent charisma.' (& not very much that Hillary is black.) That, and $4.95 will get you coffee at starbucks.

My friends, some straight-talk. It's the War, ______. I don't want to hear about the fucking e-conomy while we are spending ~3 billion$ a Week in Iraq. Or illegal 'aliens', or much of anything else. That just makes me (and Obama) mad.

I've been shot at (& missed). And I'm meaner than a rattlesnake. 'Don't tread on me.'

    with abiding love,

    bah.

  • People are sick of it already

If this weren't the case Obama might not be rising as high as he is.

People on both sides of the "debate" are tired of the childish, schoolyard arguments, the crass and ugly smears and the moronic windbags who are driving the conversation.

Part of Obama's appeal, in my opinion, is the fact that he offers optimism and favors bipartisan solutions to problems. I can't remember a politician running for office recently who wasn't blaming the other side right out of the gate.

And as far as Limbaugh, Time magazine, etc- sometimes people scream and flail the loudest when their influence is waning.

  • One of the smarter moves of Obama's campaign so far

was putting a freeze on FOX news early on after their patently false madrassa elementary school report. Because he just hasn't tolerated their nonsense, I think it gives him some strength to operate from.

No, he's not immune, and the mud is going to get worse. But its interesting that FOX made its bed with Bush and as Bush sinks, so does FOX. Obviously, FOX will still thrive for a while to come with a portion of the population, but Obama ignoring them and treating them as a non-network has been effective. It seems to have even made them respect him (as much as they are capable--meaning only a tiny bit). John Kerry didn't defend himself rigorously enough from the swiftboat attacks--and I think Obama will not make that mistake as he is quick to issue a statement after every accusation.

Yes, it will get worse though. I hope that the right wing finally exposes itself for the ugliness that it is--and what it's done to the country for the past eight years, and more. If Obama can speak directly to people and avoid having his only exposure come through the media (ie grassroots support) this will also create some insulation effect against (false) media filtered access.

    Or so I hope.

  • Qualifier

My support for an Obama candidacy in the general has one stipulation. If he is the nominee he has to offer the V.P. slot to Hillary. This can happen in any way. He can offer it to her but tell her he'd prefer she not take it, or he can offer it to her sincerely and she may decline. But he has to offer. Or I sit this one out.

  • The Notorious W.E.S.

I'd say John McCain has a better chance of being offered the spot as Obama's VP than Hillary does, so you might as well send in your voter registration card now. Send it to John McCain, Bill Kristol and Joe Lieberman so they can all thank you for sitting out.

  • Glenn

If no one has 2025 and they both have 1,500 plus, I'd say the offer is in order.

  • And McCain

    is the Manchurian Candidate, no?

I just get sick of it all. And what makes me sicker is that if one candidate doesn't fight this sleaze with their own sleaze, we are such idiots on election day that they'll lose.

  • Obama can get the racist vote.

For those who think a black man can’t get enough votes because of racism. You are correct that there is a lot of racism but you forget that people are more than willing to overlook a general racism, for a specific person who they think can help them or entertains them (think the devotion shown to certain sports figures). And I think enough people now think the country is in bad enough shape that Obama could get votes if people think he can really help.

Much to my amusement I read in Louis Armstrong’s journals about how much he HATED white people who would come up to him and say things like “I don’t generally like black people, but you’re the best!”

So racist people could vote for Obama if they think he can turn the country around.

My advice to Obama: Start using a lot of sports metaphors.
