Bop

Sorry about that. I'll try to be more serious and keep my contributions on topic from now on.

14 day extension possible

House Republicans Seek 14-Day Extension of Surveillance Law

"Smith declined to discuss details of the FISA negotiations. But GOP aides said Republicans wanted a two-week extension. “We are being told the White House would not veto a two-week extension,” said a senior House Republican." It's being debated now by the House on Cspan: http://www.cspan.org/watch/cs_cspan_wm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS

Save face, Bush & friends!

Sweet potatoe pie and moonshine cocktails.

And you won't worry so much about the state of our union. Madame Speaker. Just don't turn your back on em' ... they'll snatch you bald-headed. (*scalp.)

Well now, what's going on with FISA? Are they doing anything worthwhile, or what, Glenn. It's about time for a update, imo. I will say, even most of those who are *against* amnesty/immunity don't seem to know what they are talking about. To wit: constant harping on how the Telcoms can-not defend themsleves in court. Maybe you, or some kindly lawyer here, could send all of them an unsolicited email explaining the facts of this matter.

update: Journalist/re-porter John King (and that Col. Boylon dude, the spokesperson for Gen. Patraeus) are about one more unsolicited email away from cutting their left frigging ear off.

i like moon pies too,

bah.

WHAT!?

Is this true?

But IANAL, so take that with a grain of salt.

PAA extension of 15 days

Just passed the House by voice vote. Rumor has it the Senate will approve and W will sign.

<*sigh*> T'is true. "Those who can't do, ... blog." I did go to law school for a couple years, and I've been reading about and learning law for a good part of my adult life (and one of the things I learned in law school is that you can learn law by reading [as long as you're judicious in your sources]). I've a background in the sciences as well (Google "Langsetmo Spear"), and in engineering (telecom, including CALEA technology). Kind of a Jack'o'all'trades, and master of none, polymath, peripatetic, or severely unfocused individual (if you ask my sweetie)....

C'est la vie...

Cheers,

@ bamage

I don't want to speak for Arne, but I seem to remember that once he said back on the old UT that he attended law school, but never practiced. Since he's also a telecom techie, and a diver/photographer, I suspect he's another of UT's polymaths. The variety of experiences and disciplines represented by the people who comment here often amazes me. It's no wonder the threads are so interesting.

Sorry, Arne

Our posts crossed. I'm glad, at least, they I didn't misremember or misrepresent.

Damned fyslexic dingers!

...that I didn't misremember.

After Googling, I now feel rather inadequate.

Pedinska - Done that already - last night.

All of that and a closet;o) clawhammer banjo fan to boot. Amazing.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 01:36 PM

Attribution, dammit, attribution. (I should know better.)

Apologies, Pedinska, I thought that everyone here knew that the dingers in question were your zingers.

Okay, for my penance, I state unequivocally:

The phrase fyslexic dingers is ©Pedinska. I used it without permission, for which I am truly sorry.

@ jebbie

After Googling, I now feel rather inadequate.

Why? My main point is that people know a hell of a lot more than a couple of initials do (be they "CV" or "Ph.D"), and you need to address the arguments of the person if you're an honest sort. And if you do that on a regular basis, and take into consideration what it is that others are saying, and sort the wheat from the chaff (and the folderol), then you are plenty able to reach your own conclusions and have a good probability that they will be -- essentially -- correct.

Each of us, of course, adds persepctive, and as a community, we each contribute to the overall knowledge (well, maybe Sh**ter and the not-so-sadly-departed "Bart" notwithstanding).

The main thing is to keep learning, and then to make use of that knowledge ... as we did, I think in no small part, in the FISA debate.

Cheers,

FISA delay?

I hope that rumor about the 15 day extension is the real deal. A little good news would be very welcome.

To our banjo player...

Everybody knows that a Clawhammer is a 64 bit AMD processor. I'm certain your playing merits no such demeaning description.

I'll put it this way: They showed Ashcroft on PBS a while back. He was singing.

I'm still trying to induce amnesia on that episode. You're probably a virtuoso musician compared to the illustrious AG (and coverer of statuary).

Tone in DC

Clawhammer is a style or method of playing banjo. I play it that way but the sample I'm using here isn't of me playing. It's of a very fine banjo player named Zepp. Who coincidentally always ends his posts on a site that I often visit with the word, "Cheers".

@ Tone in DC

Everybody knows that a Clawhammer is a 64 bit AMD processor.

Let's just hope you have good diagnostics then, which will tell you when your processor is frailing. ;-)

Cheers,

I stand corrected.

I admit my bias and ignorance on this subject.

All I hear in my head when someone says banjo is that kid from that old Ned Beatty movie! Either that, or "New Sensation" by InXS. So thanks for the information, guys.

I sold my Clawhammer a few months ago, and went with a Core 2 Duo. Like Jim Carrey said,

Smokin'!!

End sidetracking explanation.

I'll check on that PAA extension when I get home. Maybe Dubya will throw a tantrum, or threaten to hold his breath til he's blue on Friday.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 02:25 PM

Dueling bangos.

The old Ned Beatty movie. And that kid (in the movie) is my third cousin once removed. (just kidding, sort of.)

We sent him to a nuroscientist and now all he can do is say 'cheers'!

cheers,

bah.
